Sneak Peek of TLC’s “I Found the Gown” Episode: May 31st

TGIF. Yes it is Friday and I am super excited. Today is BrideDay on TLC, which means there is a new episode of TLC’s, “I Found the Gown”. This show is amazing and full of surprises. If you have not ever seen the show, well let me tell you all about it, and hopefully you will get hooked just like I did. This show features a lovely married couple, Rick and Leslie DeAngelo who own VOWS, a discount bridal boutique in Boston, Massachusetts.  They provide brides high-end designer gowns with very affordable price tags. Selling these deeply discounted bridal gowns for 50-80% off retail is no easy task. Rick and Leslie search high and low in factory attics, boutique back rooms, and department store warehouses across the world to score these sought-after looks for less. Each episode will follow their journey to find these amazing treasures, and then back at the shop to share them with three brides and the VOWS consultants.

Before you run off to start your weekend, check out the sneak peek for tonight’s episode.

On tonight’s first episode:

  • The first bride is Patricia who wants a high end designer gown for an affordable price. But she has already purchased three gowns! She is a total bargain shopper and when she sees a deal, she can not resist! She is hoping to find a white, blinged out dress to meet her bargain loving heart.
  • The second bride is Sharifa who has brought in her daughter to help find the perfect wedding dress. She is looking for a gown which is sexy and sleek to show off her new figure. Will VOWS find her the ultimate wedding gown? Which sexy gown will she choose to walk down the aisle in?
  • The third bride is Christine who has arrived with two specific designers in mind. Lazaro and Monique Lhuillier. She wants to find a designer gown for a discount price.  Which designer will she go fall in love with?

On the Second episode:

  • The first bride is Jenna who is looking for a shabby chic look. She loves to find a gown with a full skirt, lace, and off the shoulder. Her budget? Well, both the bride and her mother want to spend the least amount of money on the gown. So will they find the perfect gown for the right price?
  • The second bride is Jacobi who is hoping to find a gown to meet her bohemian style. She is looking for a mermaid dress with a total “wow” factor.  Will she find her dream gown to wear at her destination wedding
  • The third bride is Heather who has arrived with one designer in mind. Lazaro! She is in love with Lazaro gowns, and hopes she can find one that she can afford.

Tune in tonight to find out if these brides find the gowns of their dreams for that discounted price!

Essential Summer Wedding Season Beauty Tips

The summer wedding season is coming up, and with that comes lots of dancing, good times, and sunshine. Now that your summer calendar is filling up with fun events, you’re going to adjust your beauty routine just a bit to deal with the heat.

I rock the side bangs all year round, but when it starts to get hot, they sometimes end up sticking to my forehead or flying out of place. After I flat iron my bangs into place, I use a dry shampoo spray to absorb any oil or sweat that may come my way. I’ve been using Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo (around $3-$4, drugstores) along my hairline. It goes on really light and doesn’t show up grey or powdery on my brown hair. Plus it smells yummy and doesn’t feel chalky.

One of my biggest pet peeves is eating or drinking my lipstick off. I want my lip color to look good on me, not on my glass! To keep my lip color staying on me and not on my dinner, I’ve been using a wax based lip-liner, like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil ($19, Sephora) as a base for my lips. I outline my lips then color them in lightly to keep the color throughout. I love the pink shade “Wicked”. Then,  I use a liquid lipstick to go right over. I found that the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks ($19, Sephora) last all day and doesn’t smudge, even through happy hour!

With weddings and showers and bachelorette parties coming up, there’s a constant need to be photo-ready. To keep your skin HD-ready to be tagged on Facebook, I like to sweep a finishing powder all over my face after applying my makeup. I use a duo fibre face brush from MAC ( #187, $42, from MAC) to sweep over an HD finishing powder. I like the Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder ($16-$34, Sephora) because it’s light and is excellent at absorbing oil and preventing shine all night long.

Now that your face and hair is looking flawless, let’s remember the biggest area that you need to take care of- your skin. I can’t stand the greasy feeling of most sunscreens, let alone the smell. I’m completely obsessed with the Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Sunscreen Body Mist (around $10, drugstores) in SPF 70. I can’t smell it at all on me and it’s a spray, so it doesn’t go on globby or greasy. Plus it’s never irritating and feels incredibly light on my skin. I keep one in my bathroom and spray it all over my body before I head out, and I also have one in my car just in case.

These are some of my secret weapon tips for looking hot when it starts to get hot. Keep yourself looking good all night long and you’ll never have to un-tag yourself from any pictures ever again. And just remember, your skin is going to stick with you longer than that slice of wedding cake, so take care of it. Cheers!

TLC’s Four Weddings Winning Bride: Season Premiere

Good morning weekenders! It is nice to have TLC’s “Four Weddings” back on our weekends, isn’t it? I think so. It totally makes me want to jump out of bed and talk about the winner from the season premiere. Yep, I am pretty excited. The winning bride from Thursday’s episode is Chantall! Congrats to this bride and all her gorgeous planning. Her Southern vintage wedding scored her a total of 90 points out of 120 points. Here is the breakdown.

Venue: 23 points
Dress:  22 points
Experience: 23 points
Food: 22 points

TLC

The other three brides really liked the venue the best, as she scored the highest in this category. The venue was at an old Plantation. The ceremony took place under the oldest tree on the property. The venue really sets the scene for the wedding, and this venue totally complimented Chantall’s vintage elegant theme. All the gorgeous details of the old world charm was evident in this venue. The perfect place for this bride and her groom. Nice choice Chantall! I really loved this venue as well. The barn where the reception took place was so rustic and all the beautiful flowers and vintage touches came together so well. A lovely space for such an elegant affair. I live for vintage, so when I saw this venue and all the decor, I was in complete love.

Congrats to Chantall for winning an all expenses paid honeymoon. After all the planning of her romantic and elegant vintage wedding, together with her husband, she is ready to pack her bags, and journey to a place of relaxation and luxury. Sounds like a great time. Enjoy Chantall, you deserve it!

Here is a look back at Chantall’s Vintage Elegant wedding:

TLC’s Four Weddings Episode Recap: Season Premiere

Did you tune into last night’s season premiere episode of  “Four Weddings” on TLC?  What are your thoughts of the four brides and their weddings? What details stood out for you? If you missed it, we have a recap of the episode right here:

Who are the Brides?: TLC

  • Chancy, a bride who wants to bring her cheerleader fun and energy to her wedding day.  The night time ceremony is set outside the banquet hall.  The trees are decorated with twinkle lights, the alter is draped with white drapery with a beautiful chandelier hanging in the middle. There are beautiful water fountains with candles all around. A very romantic look. After their “I do’s”, the ceremony ends with fireworks lighting up the sky. Inside the banquet hall the room is decorated with twinkle lights, ivory and gold colors. The guest tables are missing centerpieces, however around the room there are beautiful and grand flower centerpieces.  Guests enjoy a huge array of food, as they watch the first dance up on the balcony. There is a pink and white candy bar which is enjoyed by all who love sweets. The dance floor is taken over by the couple’s version of the Harlem Shake. The Harlem Shake is live on the dance floor. Crazy costumes, high energy, and lots of dancing.
  • Chantall, a bride who is going Southern with vintage rustic details at her wedding. Her wedding takes place at a historic plantation in Louisiana. The ceremony is outside under trees with roses, candles, lanterns, and hanging chandeliers. The processional includes four dogs who are all dressed up. Following, Chantall walks in wearing a lovely lace fitted gown with an embellished sash on the waist.  After the ceremony ends, guests are welcomed into the  barn where the reception takes place. Inside the barn, there are candles, purple and white flowers, and many vintage details like a horse carriage, lace, birdcages, old books, and vintage style furniture. After a traditional Southern buffet, guests enjoyed some fun times taking photos in the photo booth.
  • Amanda is a bride who holds a destination wedding for her thirty five guests. The wedding takes place in a mansion with a doll house collection. Inside the mansion, a romantic space is where the ceremony takes place. It is decorated with vintage style furniture and ivory, pink, and white flowers.  Amanda holds a hand-made bouquet made up of silk flowers. Following the ceremony, guests go into a grand parlor to enjoy the reception. Tall ceilings, vintage furniture, and flowers filled this space. The cake is a three tiered cake with rhinestones and white flowers. There is also a traditional King’s cake for the groom. To give the New Orleans feel to the guests, they had props of New Orleans like masks, and got to wear and dance around with them. The guests, sparklers in hand, say goodbye to the couple, as they exit the wedding.
  • Marcala, a bride who is sharing her Peruvian traditions with her guests at her wedding. The ceremony takes place outside and decorated with spring flowers, hanging mason jars, and white chairs. The ceremony was special as they included their little daughter in their vows. When the ceremony concludes, guests get into the spirit of Mardi Grass by joining in a second line to head to the reception. At cocktail hour, there is Peruvian speciality drink served. The centerpieces were spring flowers of various colors. They were arranged as flower arrangements or flowers emerged in water inside various sizes of vases. The cake was a three tiered tipsy Topsy style with a cake topper which had not only the couple, but their daughter as well. The dance floor was full of high energy and fun.

A Hot Detail:  There was one detail from each wedding that stood out for me. What I thought was so super unique and fun at Chancy’s wedding was the grand entrance at the reception. Her fellow cheerleaders lined up, pom poms and all, and cheered the couple as they walked in. Just like it was a football game. I thought that was such a great way to make an entrance.  I also loved what followed, which was the dance Chancy performed with her cheerleaders. That was great! I thought it was high energy and a total blast!  What I absolutely loved at Chantall’s wedding was the overall theme of her wedding. I live for vintage, and when it is blended with a wedding, my heart is happy. I thought that all the details of lace, vintage style furniture, and her dress, came together really well. Vintage was pulled off well!  What I thought was unique at Amanda’s wedding was the personal tours of the doll house collections. I thought this was something totally unique, and I had never seen it at a wedding. I think it can be something memorable for guests.  At Marcala’s wedding reception, I really liked how her sister performed a traditional Peruvian dance. It was sweet because it was her sisters and I thought this was so much more meaningful. I also loved how the bride and groom got up and danced with them.

TLCWho won?: Congrats to Chantall for winning!  She and her husband won an all expenses paid honeymoon to Portugal.  I was not surprised about Chantall winning at all, she seemed to deserve it! As soon as I saw her wedding, I knew that she would win. I loved it! While I can not account for the food since I wasn’t actually there, all the other details – venue,  bride’s dress, and originality – were owned by Chantall’s wedding. I thought that every detail of her Southern vintage theme was absolutely perfect. All the details from ceremony to reception came together so seamlessly. Swoon!  Great job Chantall!  So how did the other three brides score? Marcala came in second, Amanda in third, and Chancy in fourth. Were you surprised by the results?  Love to hear from you, so please share!

TLC

From My Simply Perfect Events

Shantell & Corey were married at the beautiful St. Regis hotel in Atlanta.  There are so many things to say about this breathtaking wedding.  Her bouquet, her dress, the tears streaming down Corey’s face when he saw Shantell walking down the aisle…(I cry at every wedding but I had to step out when Corey started crying.  It was beyond sweet).   Shantell is a Delta, and so she chose the color red to be incorporated into her wedding. I presented the idea of flowers dripping onto the floor. I didn’t want their wedding to be typical so I suggested estate tables and the dripping flowers so it can all come together in the most elegant of ways.   The estate tables with the dripping flowers were basically everything.   I took billions, yes…billions, of pictures with my cell phone because I just couldn’t believe how delicious the tables were.  Oh and did I mention the amazingly amazing candy bar that spelled out “S (heart) C” for Shantell Loves Corey?!

They had a live band and a DJ. Right after cocktail hour, I had the band play,”Celebrate” (you know, celebrate good times, come on!),then opened the doors for the guests to come in. The music was so lively and welcoming. At first, the guests gasped, stared and then they walked into the reception. Rather than going straight to their tables, everyone went straight to the dance floor. It was awesome!!! I let people take their time making their way to their tables because this was so organic, I didn’t want to ruin the moment. When the bridal party was announced, I had them walk to the dance floor and create a half-moon. The Dj, DJ Mark Battle of One Sound and Entertainment, knew the perfect song to play to get the crowd excited while the bride and groom were introduced. He played T.I.’s “Bring ’em Out”. I’ve never felt energy like that at a wedding before. You would have thought that T.I. was there! The night was magical. So much love and so much beauty.
