Top Five Slimming Tricks for Brides

The wedding countdown has begun! Are you ready to walk down the aisle feeling your best? It’s totally normal to feel a little bit better about yourself if you’re feeling a little healthier or more fit. Slimming down before a wedding has always been a huge trend, and we’ve got some super easy tips to help you get to where you want to be.

BeFunky_BHL-Water.jpg.jpg

Switch Out the Soda

That’s right, even diet sodas are off limits starting… now! All soda can do some serious damage to your teeth, and sugar substitutes aren’t necessarily great for you. The best thing you can be drinking is water with lemon. The lemon helps flush everything out and water is always hands down the best thing you can sip on. If you do need some variety, try an unsweetened iced tea. Unsweetened passion or fruit teas can tie over that taste for flavor while keeping you off sugar and sweeteners. Unsweetened tea and lemon water do wonders for a slim figure.

Get Bendy

When you wake up in the morning, start with some stretches. Stretch out your arms, legs, and neck for a few minutes before you do anything. Getting your blood flowing helps wake your body up, get you alert and ready for the day. A little step like this can get your body ready to take on the day and think lean. Just remember- a stretch doesn’t count as a work out. You still may need to sweat it out later in the day.

Figure Out New Favorites

If skittles or starburst were your vices, switch them out for actual fruit. If you love your ice cream, make your own popsicles with water and fresh fruit or freshly squeezed fruit. Whatever stress snack you love, figure out something similar that’s healthier for you. Grapes, hummus and pita chips, and popcorn with no sugar are some of our favorites.

Stay Full

Don’t let yourself go hungry. It’s not a healthy way to lose weight, and you won’t focus as well as you could. Your brain is just as important as your body, so you need to make it a priority as well. If you’re feeling hungry, know that it’s your body just saying it needs a little more energy. Give it healthy fuel, like fruit or unsalted nuts or yogurt.

Burn With the Bridesmaids

If working out isn’t your favorite thing, try going with the girls! Make it a bonding thing and find a fun exercise class. There’s amazing dance classes, ballet classes, and parkour classes that are trending right now in most major cities that are super fun to go to. It doesn’t feel like working out when you’re just playing around, which makes these kinds of classes great!

Top Five Coachella-Inspired Beauty Trends for Brides

Coachella is over, but that doesn’t mean the party’s over! Whether or not you were jamming out in the desert this year, these five beauty trends will  have you screaming for an encore.

Coachella Lipstick.jpg

Deep Say Something Lips

Lorde really kicked off this trend, and we’ve been seeing it on tons of Coachella fashion blogs. Deep berry lips for summer create a sultry vibe and were adored in the desert. Don’t be afraid of the color- own it! A deep toned lip can work for bachelorette parties and is great for night looks. Just keep your eyes more on the natural side to keep from looking too painted.

Coachella Eyebrows.jpg

Thin Arched Brows

The full eyebrows are taking a backseat to arched brows. Lots of festival goers were rocking a thinner brow than we’ve been seeing, and the arch creates an elegantly framed face. Use a waxy brow pencil to keep your brows together as much as possible so they don’t look too full or bushy. Keep your color as natural as possible and follow your natural arch so it doesn’t look too drawn on.

Coachella Face.jpg

Dewy Sun-Kissed Skin

A beautiful trend we loved from Coachella was dewy golden skin. Use a moisturizing foundation or tinted moisturizer all over to really get that festival glow. This will look fantastic for outdoor weddings. Instant goddess glow!

Coachella Naked 2.jpg

Metallic Eyeshadow

Pedal to the metal! Silvery metallic shadows were huge at Coachella- we’re guessing Urban Decay’s Naked 2 palette got a serious work out all over the desert. The cool tones look polished while still being fun and funky. Cool metallics can be dressed up for a wedding ceremony, or dressed down for a casual bridesmaid brunch. Start silvery on the insides and smoke out the creases for a dynamic eye look.

Coachella Eyeliners.jpg

Neutral Eyeliner

Pack up the teal and periwinkle eyeliners for later- brown is back! Keep your eyes looking young and wide with a neutral toned eyeliner. If brown isn’t your scene, go for the gold. Lighter liners that open your eyes up make you sparkle just a little more. This is perfect for brides and bridesmaids- it’s an instant eye twinkle!

Five Sun Safe Must Haves for Summer Weddings

We’re knee deep in the summer season and that means we’re knee deep in the heat. Outdoor weddings are fun, but now with the weather so hot here are a few products you may want to consider picking up.

Load Up on Sunscreen

Being outside should always warrant sunscreen, but be sure you’re packing it on for weddings. It’s something that’s easy to forget in the rush of things, but is incredibly important. A wedding is a day you want to remember, and you don’t want to remember it as the day you got a horrible sunburn! Pick something non-scented and not greasy, so it doesn’t affect your outfit or perfume. If you know you’ll be dancing, pick up a sport sunscreen like this one from Coppertone ($7-$9, drugstores). It covers both UVA and UVB rays and is water and sweat resistant.

SPF Everywhere

Remember that SPF counts everywhere! Having a sunburn on your lips is a nightmare. The Maybelline Baby Lips ($4-$6, drugstores) line are all SPF 20, and offer a light tint on your lips. They stay moisturized and help block out any sun damage. I also love the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm ($7.50, beauty specialty stores). It’s an incredibly moisturizing line and makes lips feel pillowy soft. The SPF 25 doesn’t hurt, either!

Seriously, Everywhere

I like to use a leave-in conditioner in my hair to keep it from drying out, particularly when the air is more dry. Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture Leave-In Cream ($8-$10, drugstores) has a UV Shield, which helps protect your hair from sun damage. Your hair won’t get a sunburn, but it may get damaged or dry out in the heat. Dab a little in your hair and work it out to the ends before you style.

A Flawless, Sun Safe Face

Laura Mercier is known for their tinted moisturizers ($42, beauty specialty stores) year round, but the SPF 20 really helps out in the summer. The tinted moisturizers offer fantastic hydration as well as light coverage. Plus they offer a wide range of shades to accommodate all complexions.

Full Coverage and Sun Safe

If you’re looking for a foundation with more coverage, the MAC Matchmaster Foundation ($33, MAC counters) is for you. It offers SPF 15 and a wide range of shades. I find that it goes on moe matte to absorb any oiliness you may encounter. It goes on light but covers blemishes and redness very well.

In addition to wearing more products with SPF, just remember…

Ditch The Soda

Yes, soda is bad for you, but carbonation in general can throw off your fashion game plan completely. Skip any bubbly sodas the day before and the day of to avoid any unwanted bloat. If you need something sweet, stick to juice or a flavored water. Being bloated and in the heat is no fun at all. Plus, you’ll absolutely avoid any accidental burping.

Opt for Water

Going hand in hand with ditching soda, stick to water until the reception. It keeps your teeth from getting stained, it’ll keep you hydrated all day long, and if it does happen to spill, it’s not a major crisis. Yes, it’s fine to have a glass of wine (or two) but be sure to pair your glass with some water to avoid becoming sloppy. You don’t ever want to be that girl.

Three Fun Summer Wedding Ideas

Good Morning lovelies, Sunday morning is looking oh so gorgeous today. Hot, but still gorgeous. It is Summer, and that means barbecues, cold drinks, and days at the pool or beach. I am loving summer. What I like even more than summer, are summer weddings. Summer weddings and all the fun that you can have. Here are some fun summer wedding ideas for you and your guests. Ready to jump into some fun goodness? I know I am.

  • Beach BBQ: Treat your guests to a lovely day at the beach and enjoy some burgers, hot dogs, lemonade, and some sweet watermelon. Why not replace this with the traditional rehearsal dinner. Who says you have to have your rehearsal dinner at a fancy restaurant  If you are more of the beach gal and beach guy, why not be at a place which you are most happy? Enjoy the beach, the sun, the soft sand on your feet, and some relaxing too.  One word of caution is to make sure not to get too much sun, or wear that sunblock, so you are not a tomato on your wedding day. You want to make sure you are looking fresh and photo ready. Yes, go ahead and head to the beach, but just make sure to take care of that skin!
  • Cool off: With gorgeous outdoor weddings comes the summer heat, so it is time to cool off your guests with something cold and delicious. At the ceremony, have a drink station serving cold lemonade, ice tea, or cucumber immersed water. Something besides water can attract your guests to a cold treat without being too boring.  You may not want to serve alcoholic drinks during this time, save that for after the “I Do’s”. Your ceremony is special and the most important part, so you probably want it to be as romantic and sweet as can be.
  • Smoothie/Juice Bar: If you are opt to a more healthier treat for your guests, then try a smoothie/Juice Bar at your summer wedding. There are ice cream bars, s’mores stations, and candy bars, which are oh so amazing and so delicious. However if you are more on the healthier side and your guests may be too, go for the Smoothie/Juice Bar. You can even have a signature juice which can be served to your guests, and make it more personal and fun.  Why not take wheat grass shots? Get energized and ready to party and have a great time!

The All American Bride

The 4th of July is right around the corner, and with wedding season in full swing, it is no surprise that many brides are wondering how to incorporate the Independence Day festivities into their special day. However, if the idea of throwing Old Glory willy-nilly all over your wedding reception makes you want to run for the hills, don’t you worry—we will show you how to add hints of 4th flair without creating a cheesy red, white, and blue festival.

LOCATION:
It can sometimes be difficult to walk the line between cheesy and classy when incorporating a strong theme into your reception. Picking the right location for your big day can be the first step in discovering just how far you can push your theme. For example, an outdoor reception can have more of a vintage Americana feel, while a reception in a hotel ballroom might restrict you in how far you can go with your 4th of July decorations. In other words, allow the “feel” of the venue dictate the “feel” of your theme choices. There is something “American” feeling about an outdoor wedding, whether it’s on a picturesque beach, a beautiful lakeside shore, a rustic barn, or under a tree in your own backyard.

DECORATIONS:
The décor will be the most impactful way for you to add some 4th flair. The key is choosing a design aesthetic that is cohesive—the last thing you want is some random flags stuck onto your table and cutouts of fireworks taped onto the walls. A classic “Americana” or Southern shabby-chic vibe fits into a Norman Rockwell aesthetic that is perfect for Independence Day. Think plaid, gingham, old lace, burlap, and rustic wooden signs and crates—easy, comfortable, and effortless beauty. If you want to go with red, white, and blue, keep the colors subdued and distressed, never bright or tacky. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns when it comes to your table decorations—mismatched linens, tableware, and flatware can give it an old, antique feel. It should look like everything came out of an old vintage trunk found in your grandmother’s attic, not like you bought it at a party store. Vintage flags can serve as table markers at the reception, while wildflowers in porcelain and glass vases delicately enhance the table. Stringing paper lanterns and tea lights add a romantic and nostalgic flare.

Adjusted Drink Station

FOOD:
Your food choices can be a fun and creative way to add some irony and humor into your reception. This is your chance to get cheesy! “Dressed-up” comfort food is a fantastic way to keep with your theme. Bacon-wrapped dates, macaroni and cheese, barbecue, gourmet grilled cheese, sliders, popcorn, a mashed potato bar—the list goes on! Cocktail choices range from craft beer to mint juleps, and for non-alcoholic drinks, think retro favorites: Coke served in real Coke bottles, lemonade, sweet tea, root beer. Mason jars are a great way to serve your drinks, but if you are worn-out from the whole Mason jar trend, you can always mix and match old glass bottles and jars. For desserts, caramel apples, cupcakes, and traditional pies are delicious options, while a snow-cone booth is sure to add some fun and quirk to any reception. Having an outdoor reception? Make a s’mores station around a campfire!

ODDS AND ENDS:
Continue your theme before and after your wedding by having your wedding stationery reflect your Independence Day motif—mixing patterns, using vintage-inspired fonts, and keeping the colors within the subdued color palette from your reception. You can also use the same type of stationery for writing your thank you notes. Wedding favors for your guests could be confetti poppers, sparklers, vintage flags, or even canned preserves from a local farm. Finish off your night with a private fireworks show or by driving off in a classic pick up truck or vintage car.

Finally, it is important to remember why we celebrate the 4th of July, and a great way to do that is by giving back. On your wedding registry, present your guests with the option of donating to a charity of your choice. There are several fantastic organizations that benefit veterans, soldiers, and military families. On your special day, nothing speaks more towards the spirit of the American people than giving back to those who helped us secure our freedom and those who are fighting to keep it intact.

Five Trending Bridal Shower Looks for Summer

Hey gorgeous gals! Summer has officially kicked off, so it’s time to ditch the leggings and enjoy the sunshine in style. Summer bridal showers are a perfect platform to flaunt fun summer style, and this is your guide for what’s trending right now.

Look #1: Flowy and Free

The layered maxi skirt has been on the rise lately, and so has this gorgeous mermaid turquoise shade. To work this trend, I suggest pairing with a button up sleeveless blouse. A white top with an embellished collar dresses up a basic, making it a versatile piece in your wardrobe. Plus it is completely functional and comfy in the summer time! Pair it all with a detailed bun and flattering studs to create a look that is polished and still very trendy. If you’re heading to a bridal shower at a restaurant or even somewhere a little more adventurous, this look will be perfect.

Look #2: Down to Earth

For a look that is trendy with an earthy flair, keep an eye out for pretty braided accessories and lacy layered dresses. A simple belt at the high waistline is quite flattering around a tummy. Pair with a tailored blazer in a hot summer color, like orange. Just make sure to balance it out with nude heels so the color doesn’t clash with anything else.  If your bridal shower is at a home or is a family based event, this warm look is perfect.

Look #3: Classic Romantic

That Tiffany’s blue is always going to be perfect for any event bridal-related, hands down. This look particularly is polished and appropriate for any bridal shower. The modest neck line and the boxy cut of the dress hugs curves in the right places without being too tight or inappropriate. Pair with similarly toned creamy heels and a delicate hairpiece for a look that says ‘classic romance’ meets cute and trendy. To give the look a little more personal flair, pair it with a hot clutch. Knuckle rings have been popping up lately, and this clutch is a very flirty way to work that trend.

Look #4: Bohemian Beauty

This beautiful deep periwinkle tone is showing up everywhere and will be one of the hottest shades this season. The flattering shade will pull a summer glow out of any skin tone, creating an instant sun-kissed look. I’ve been loving this shade paired with warm browns to balance out the powerful periwinkle. For more casual bridal showers, a brown gladiator flat is both trendy and functional. For hair, I would suggest leaving your hair in loose waves either half up, or with a braided detail. This look is all about something beautiful with details that make it all the more personal.

Look #5: Retro Romantics

If you’re heading to a bridal shower that may be a bit more formal (at a country club, etc.), a look along these lines may be perfect for you. The peplum skirt is a trend that has been really taking off this season, and its’shape is both trendy and demure. I love this creamy pink, particularly paired with a lacy peeptoe heel. This look is all very feminine and romantic, but is updated with vintage accessories. The cat eye sunglasses fit seamlessly with the outfit while updating it to have a unique retro-inspired look. Vintage pieces and retro styles have been going strong, and because they are a proven classic any pieces will be instant staples of your wardrobe all year long.

Top Five Nail Polish Shades for Summer

Summer is here, and that means that summer wedding events are just on the horizon. With bachelorette parties, showers, weddings, and everything else in between right around the corner, here are some fresh nail polish colors to wear at your next event. While the classic french manicure is a go-to for a reason, here are my five favorite shades that are more fun and adventurous.

Papaya Punch by China Glaze ($4-$8, beauty supply stores)

Papaya Punch is the perfect compliment to a summer mimosa with fellow bridesmaids. The yellow-toned orange makes the bright punch pop on any skin tone. China Glaze polishes also wears for a few days before major chips or nicks, so you won’t have to worry about a messy looking manicure. Plus, it’s an excellent accent to floral dresses as well as the pop of color you may need to brighten an outfit.

Collide by Illamasqua ($17, Sephora)

Collide is one of the strongest shades Illamasqua has released so far, and it’s proven time and time again why. This powerful pop of pink stands out on all skin tones and its’ formula rarely shows any signs of wear and tear. A few coats of Collide will last you an entire weekend, giving you more time to enjoy yourself and not worry about touching up your nails. A bright fuchsia is daring, fun, and stylish. You can dress it up with a solid dark outfit or dress it down with something light and colorful.

Electric Pineapple by China Glaze ($4-$8, beauty supply stores)

For some extra summer fun, go with a shade that hints at sunshine and mojitos. Electric Pineapple is just that- electric. This China Glaze shade sits in at a cozy spot between yellow and green without looking icky. This compliments earthy tones and brightens up cream tones. Dress it up with dark jewelry to make it pop at night, and dress it down with silver and white gold during the day.

Cotton Candy by Revlon ($4-$6, drugstores)

If you’re feeling something a little more conservative for your event, Cotton Candy by Revlon is a fresh take on a favorite. This light pink has a rose gold tint to it, warming it up more than a basic pastel pink. Two to three coats of Cotton Candy will completely cover your claws, plus it has a little extra something to it- it’s scented! That’s right, it actually smells like cotton candy! It’s nothing offensive, and it doesn’t smell like chemicals which is what I was afraid of before trying it. It’s a neat little novelty that makes both this shade and this formula a must have for summer.

Turquoise & Caicos by Essie ($6-$8, beauty supply stores)

If you want to show your camaraderie to the bride, this could be your ‘something blue’. Essie’s shade Turquoise & Caicos is a turquoise tinted Tiffany blue. I love the instant mermaid glow it brings to all skin tones. Essie shades are trusted for a reason- their formula lasts through hard wear and goes on smooth and evenly. This shade proves to be versatile with different outfits and looks too, making it a must for all your upcoming summer events.

From the bachelorette party to brunch with the bridesmaids and even through to the big day, your nails will thank you for dressing them up in a fun summer color. Swapping your typical shade for one of these summer shades could be your ‘something new’, and you will look fabulous wearing them. Enjoy!

Essential Summer Wedding Season Beauty Tips

The summer wedding season is coming up, and with that comes lots of dancing, good times, and sunshine. Now that your summer calendar is filling up with fun events, you’re going to adjust your beauty routine just a bit to deal with the heat.

I rock the side bangs all year round, but when it starts to get hot, they sometimes end up sticking to my forehead or flying out of place. After I flat iron my bangs into place, I use a dry shampoo spray to absorb any oil or sweat that may come my way. I’ve been using Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo (around $3-$4, drugstores) along my hairline. It goes on really light and doesn’t show up grey or powdery on my brown hair. Plus it smells yummy and doesn’t feel chalky.

One of my biggest pet peeves is eating or drinking my lipstick off. I want my lip color to look good on me, not on my glass! To keep my lip color staying on me and not on my dinner, I’ve been using a wax based lip-liner, like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil ($19, Sephora) as a base for my lips. I outline my lips then color them in lightly to keep the color throughout. I love the pink shade “Wicked”. Then,  I use a liquid lipstick to go right over. I found that the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks ($19, Sephora) last all day and doesn’t smudge, even through happy hour!

With weddings and showers and bachelorette parties coming up, there’s a constant need to be photo-ready. To keep your skin HD-ready to be tagged on Facebook, I like to sweep a finishing powder all over my face after applying my makeup. I use a duo fibre face brush from MAC ( #187, $42, from MAC) to sweep over an HD finishing powder. I like the Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder ($16-$34, Sephora) because it’s light and is excellent at absorbing oil and preventing shine all night long.

Now that your face and hair is looking flawless, let’s remember the biggest area that you need to take care of- your skin. I can’t stand the greasy feeling of most sunscreens, let alone the smell. I’m completely obsessed with the Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Sunscreen Body Mist (around $10, drugstores) in SPF 70. I can’t smell it at all on me and it’s a spray, so it doesn’t go on globby or greasy. Plus it’s never irritating and feels incredibly light on my skin. I keep one in my bathroom and spray it all over my body before I head out, and I also have one in my car just in case.

These are some of my secret weapon tips for looking hot when it starts to get hot. Keep yourself looking good all night long and you’ll never have to un-tag yourself from any pictures ever again. And just remember, your skin is going to stick with you longer than that slice of wedding cake, so take care of it. Cheers!
