Vintage Phoenix Wedding

I am a huge fan of vintage, and I do not think I will ever get bored of it. I think it will always be classic, beautiful, and very romantic style for weddings. So when the first image of this vintage wedding popped onto my computer screen, I knew I wanted to feature it. The first image was of the gorgeous bride and her stunning dress, beautiful bouquet, and killer hair and make up.  Each and every image after that had me totally hooked. I love all the pretty  details and the venue is the perfect backdrop for this lovely vintage wedding. Enjoy Monday morning with a dose of romance.

From Elmer Escobar Photography

Last week I had the great opportunity of photographing Vanessa and Jairo’s wedding. A few months back I had flown in to Tucson to shoot his brother’s wedding (seen at www.elmerescobar.com) so it was a really great feeling to be invited back for Vanessa and Jairo’s wedding. We met up at Whispering Tree Ranch in Phoenix. Vanessa was finishing up getting ready so in the meantime we took her dress, shoes, rings, and jewelry out to have them featured. One thing I am adamant about is that if you put so much thought behind every detail (and Vanessa absolutely did), then there should be a time allocated in the day to capture all of them. Once we were done photographing them and she was in her dress, we took a few minutes to photograph her in her dress. Again, if she put thought and effort into it, I want to make sure she has photos of it. But of course, eventually it was time for the ceremony. But not before Jairo getting a little bit of a preview. Not visually, but he could at least touch his bride. It wouldn’t be until she was being walked down the aisle by her father that he would see her in her dress. It was a beautiful heartfelt ceremony, and the reception was just as special. With friends and family coming in from all around the country (and some from out of the country). Thank you Vanessa and Jairo for letting me be there for your special day. I wish you nothing but happiness in your new journey together!

Intimate Outdoor Southern Wedding

Lace never gets old in my book. This pretty Southern wedding has all the lace that I love and more.  In addition to lace, this Southern bride  loves horses, and all things simple and Southern. This gorgeous couple share personal vows with their small guest count surrounded by lovely trees in a quaint  setting.  Then you have a photographer like Brandy Angel Photography who is there to capture all the lovely details. This wedding is just beautiful in every detail. I can go and on about this Southern wedding, but I think the stunning images speak for themselves. Enjoy!!

A few words from the bride…

The Love story:  We met through a mutual acquaintance in 2009. I was in a relationship at the time so we were just friends for a year before we started dating. We would bump into each other everywhere throughout that year and Matt would tell his buddies that, “one day that girls gonna be my girlfriend.” So after numerous attempts of him asking me out and getting turned down he deleted my number from his phone. At the end of that year, when I became single again, I thought about Matt and decided to reach out to him. His response was,”who is this again?” Haha I knew I probably deserved that for all the neglect I had given him. Our first date was that night, I asked him out to a new fine dining restaurant called Three Forks. I quickly realized how much we had in common and that he had spent four summers on the lake I grew up on in Alabama which is rare to find when you are living 7 hours away from home. He asked me to go out of town with him that weekend to his families place in Crystal River and that’s where we both fell completely in love! He made me swim with manatees which was a real treat for a small town Alabama girl like me. That weekend is when we decided we were Lobsters, and would be soulmates for life. We even ironically found a wooden sign that says “Lobsters” that is still to this day hanging in our kitchen. I knew he would be my husband one day.

The Proposal: He proposed on November 8, 2013. I was about to renew another years lease on my apartment even though I spent most of my time at his house. I came straight to his house from work that day with a hope that was crushed. I desperately wanted him to propose but I had accepted that it wasn’t going to happen. He asked me to come sit on the back porch with him and watch the sunset which we did often. It’s one of our favorite spots overlooking dutton island. I told him about my day and rambled on as usual. He was pacing around, couldn’t sit still which was also usual so I didn’t think anything of it. Then he said,” I have a surprise for you little Susie.” (It’s a nickname) long story. I responded,” Oh please tell me it’s a garage door opener!” Haha the garage door had been broken for quite some time. He found that amusing and went along with it. He said I was right and he was gonna go get the opener to show me. When he came back he told me to close my eyes and he got down on one knee. He told me to open my eyes and simply asked,”I want to watch sunsets with you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?”

The Wedding: We wanted to be engaged for a while. We knew we weren’t going to do a big wedding and even talked about eloping. About four days shy of one year later we decided on a private family wedding. Very small and quant, 17 people including the bride and groom. It was perfect timing.

A few words from  Southern Sophistication Designs…

Courtney and Eddie, “are an absolutely adorable couple.  They started out as clients, but living through her leukemia journey with her and planning her dream wedding, they quickly became family.  The inspiration for their wedding was at first going to be southern summer sweetness but after her diagnosis made a summer wedding an impossibility, we changed her wedding into a southern sophisticated New Year’s celebration to remember.  It was also Courtney’s first big event after her diagnosis and treatment.  The story would even make the Grinches heart grow three too big.”

From Andie Freeman Photography

Courtney was originally planning a summer wedding to her sweetheart, Eddie.  But in January of 2013, that all changed.  She was tired, so she decided to go and see her doctor.  The results weren’t good.  She was diagnosed with Leukemia and immediately hospitalized for treatment.  Her brother donated his bone marrow for a transplant and she underwent chemotherapy and radiation.  She lost her glorious blonde hair that she has been growing out for her summer wedding.  It was a summer wedding that would never happen.  She was not allowed to be around a large group of people for one year.  So she and Eddie changed their plans.  They began to plan a winder wedding.  With the help of their wedding planning and event designer, Jessie Patton, they planned a glorious event at the Foundry at Puritan Mill in Midtown Atlanta.  And even though she didn’t have her long blonde locks, she had the cutest short, curly bob.  Courtney stated, “My fiance and I have been through alot together, especially in the past year after a cancer diagnosis last Fall. Now with a clean bill of health, our wedding has become an even bigger celebration. Our wedding will be a mix of northern and southern guests. I am envisioning a rustic winter wedding”.It was a stunning event from beginning to end and Eddie and Courtney got their dream wedding with all of their family and friends.  She is now a little older than 1 (her cancer free date) and they are living in their dream house in the suburbs of Atlanta.

Our shoot featured many elements that most brides needing an inspirational boost can draw from. For example, the vintage dress being modeled in the shoot can appeal to a bride considering whether an heirloom dress can be made anew again.

Another idea that can be used for an inspirational feature is the beautiful floral crown adorned on our bride’s head. Budget and DIY brides are always looking for affordable alternatives to the pricey cathedral/double veils; so our floral crown can come to the rescue. This was created using a vibrant and bold red rose and balanced by ranunculus and brides protea intertwined amongst a vine of jasmine.

A special element for this shoot is the red shawl, which coincidentally ties in with the red of the bride’s bouquet, corsage and floral crown. It can add a special something to bride’s looking to incorporate the statement color into their wedding; even if it so happens to be red.

North Carolina Vintage Bridal Session

Today, we are heading to North Carolina for a pretty bridal session with everything we love about brides and their lovely details. This session features a stunning bride in a charming rustic location, wearing a gorgeous bridal gown, and paired with a beautiful bouquet.  All the details of this session goes together so well. We love the touches of vintage added to make this session even prettier. Can we please talk about the bride and her gown? This lace gown is amazing and looks so good on this bride. Like the gown was meant for this bride, and this  bride only. We are obssesed. Thanks to Big Star Studios for capturing the images and creating such an amazing bridal session. The photographs are breathtaking! Before you head off to start your weekend, grab a cup of morning coffee, and browse through this fabulous bridal session. It is a great way to kick off the weekend. Laura wanted something a little more modern for her shoot. But she also wanted to tie in some of the rustic details to make it more her style. We chose an old warehouse in Mebane, NC to start it off then headed out to a local farm to get some softer shots of Laura.

A Vintage Bridal Session from Micah McCoy Studio

Bridal sessions are one of my favorite photo-shoots. They really are. I mean, it is all about the bride, her gown, her hair, make up, and all the pretty bridal details. What is not to love? This bridal session is no exception. Located in an historic part of town and featuring a bride who is in love with vintage details as much as I am. Another reason why I love this bridal session so much. It is personal, creative, and charming. Can we talk about the bride’s pretty details? That lace dress is absolutely  stunning. Wow! And then the lovely shoes compliments the dress just perfectly. Oh, and can we please talk about all her accessories? Pearls, pearls, and more pearls. Just pairs up beautifully with the dress and this pretty bride. I can go and on about this bridal session, but I think its best that you take a look at the gorgeous images captured by Micah McCoy Studio . A photographer after my vintage loving heart. Micah McCoy Studio  did a brilliant job in capturing the style and personality of this bride.

Autumn was looking for a vintage vibe for this bridal shoot, so I booked space in a local studio space in Urbana’s historic downtown. Autumn’s vintage dress complimented the setting well and she looked absolutely breathtaking descending the stairs of the building. It was like being in an old movie. Autumn made her flowers herself from paper and decorated her shoes for the occasion. To add to the authenticity of the shoot I shot many of the images on black and white film, and used vintage lenses.

South Carolina Farm Wedding by Matthew Druin Photography

Destination? A lovely farm in South Carolina. A location with beautiful mother nature surrounding their wedding day.  I may be a city girl, but I have to admit, I do love myself a farm style wedding in the countryside. I am gushing over all the pretty details of the vast greenery and a couple who looks darn good in it. Matthew Druin Photography was there to capture all the gorgeous images from this destination Farm wedding.  Enjoy a little bit of country loving!

Alex played it off with a casual, hi, but Rachel knew he was secretly laughing at her. He must have found her graceful bike abilities attractive, because when they found out they were both in the same masters program, they started dating right away. Their whirlwind love continued and they spent a lot of time traveling, arguing about football, and jamming out to Kid Cudi until one day isolated deep in the mountains, Alex asked Rachel to be his wife. Rachel and Alex planned a beautiful destination wedding that perfectly fit their love affair for travel and nature. Snuggled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is one of my all time favorite venues, Chattooga Belle Farm.  Days before and leading up to the big day, weather forecasters called for 100% chance of rain. For Rachel and Alex, that was not a problem. They embraced the rain for their outdoor wedding and came prepared with tons of umbrellas and boots. The rain and ominous clouds continued as Rachel and Alex began to get ready for their big day only doors down from one another at a semi-local hotel. After getting ready everyone made their way to the vineyard in preparation for the ceremony. As the guests began to arrive, Rachel got into her gorgeous dress with a slight tear of joy, and help from her family and bridesmaids. Alex and the groomsmen made their way to the alter and the ceremony started. As Alex came to a stop at the front of the ceremony, the rain stopped and the sun peeked a few rays through the dark sky. Rachel made her way to the front with her father to greet Alex. A few family and friends came forward to say their blessings and then the officiant began with his prayer. With an exchanging of rings, a few tears, and a passionate kiss, Rachel and Alex were pronounced husband and wife. Once the ceremony was over, we started right into portraits. Not being discouraged by the wet and occasionally muddy vineyard we took full advantage of the incredible scenery. We made our way around the farm through the tall grass filled fields and vineyards. The sun started to shine stronger and the sky created an amazing complement. Although we all came back slightly wet, it was fully worth it.

Alex and Rachel were introduced and had their first dance before everyone dug in to the tasty buffet. Since both Rachel and Alex enjoy great craft brewed beer, plenty was supplied. Since Rachel is originally from Atlanta, Sweetwater was the featured choice of beer.
Griff’s Room Band kicked off the reception and did an amazing job entertaining the guests while they enjoyed the warm sun, great conversations, and showed off some fancy dancing. Rachel and Alex made their exit into the vineyard with soft bubbles floating carelessly in the air.   Vendors: Photography: Matthew Druin Photography Venue: Chattooga Belle Farm

Falling in Love with Five Fall Trends

Fall can be an ideal time to have a wedding—with its rich hues, beautiful changing foliage, and cooler temperatures for outdoor celebrations, many brides are choosing autumnal wedding dates over the more traditional wedding summer months. Fall bridal runway shows gave us a peek into what styles we can expect to see this fall, and with its mix of whimsy, elegance, and quirky sophistication, we can confidently say that you will fall for these fall trends!

Gowns

Fall is ushering in a return to the long, elegant, and intricately embroidered gown. Draping and beautiful backs were huge on the runway for fall—after all, the back of your gown is what the majority of your friends and family will see during the ceremony. Detailed beading, vintage cuts, and capped sleeves give gowns this season a roaring twenties vibe.

Colors

Color palettes are following this trend of elegant sophistication, with ceremonies and wedding receptions sticking to warm neutrals with pops of jewel tones. Pantone predictions for fall colors offer up beautiful examples of these rich hues than can be incorporated into your bridesmaids dresses and décor. If you choose to have an outdoor wedding, keeping to neutral beiges and creams will allow the changing fall foliage to act as the focal point.

Décor and Food

As previously mentioned, choosing an outdoor wedding allows you to capitalize on the cooler temperatures and gorgeous changing colors of the season. A big trend for fall outdoor weddings will be bringing classic sophistication to the outdoors. Think chandeliers hanging from branches, elegant sit down dinners, and lush furniture pieces and sitting areas under lit trees. Locally grown food is still a dominating trend, so your sit down dinner should feature hearty and filling fall food from the region.

Flowers

Even though peonies won’t be in season in fall, they seem to be popping up everywhere in terms of fall trends. Wildflowers also make for beautiful fall flower arrangements and bouquets. Decadently decorated tables mimic the style of the embellished wedding gowns we saw on the runway, so don’t be shy with your use of flowers and centerpieces. Your neutral color palette will help these rich and deep hues pop, and the lush flowers will make your reception look like a gorgeous secret garden!

Wedding Favors

Going along with the locally sourced food, wedding favors from the region are always an appreciated gift. Autumnal flower seeds wrapped in burlap will ensure that your guests will have a beautifully blooming reminder of your wedding day. Maple syrup, local jam, or individual mini pumpkin and apple pies make yummy treats that your guests can enjoy at home.
