Alabama Gulf Coast Wedding

Its days like this, that I have to pinch myself as I think that I am dreaming all of this. Blogging about weddings and all the pretty details is so amazing and makes my heart go pitter patter. I just get so excited I cant help it! Today’s post is no exception when it comes to pretty details. It may be winter, but my heart is itching for some summer love. Here at BHL headquarters, it is a cold, rainy day, and today we are warming up with this gorgeous beachside wedding. I do not know what detail I love more, the lovely mint colors, the ice cream bar, the charming ceremony location, or the beautiful flowers. Do I have to choose?  Man, sometimes its hard to choose my favorite wedding detail. I will just not choose, because you know what, I love ALL of them. Yep, I really do. I think I am going to go ahead and just say I am obsessed with all the details.   To top it off, you have Dragonfly Photography on hand to capture all the details. Before you head out for the weekend, take a moment to browse this Southern Gulf Coast wedding and go back to summer. Summer loving on a winter day is the best right? We think so! Enjoy!

From Dragonfly Photography

Mollie and Corey are two childhood friends who grew into sweethearts.   They have a love of the water so it was only fitting that these two Southerners wed on Alabama’s beautiful Gulf Coast in Orange Beach, Alabama .  Vintage doors,  flower boxes filled with pinks, whites, and mint, an ice cream bar, homemade strawberry shortcake, and fresh preserves an set on the the water.  It was one to remember!

Bohemian Elopement Styled Shoot

If there is something bridal that I absolutely love, it is a bohemian bride. Yes, the lace dress, the flower crown, the crazy wild and pretty flowers; it all makes totally head over heels in love. But when you have a gorgeous bohemian bride and her groom in the most quaint and intimate setting, then my heart goes pitter patter. That is why today I have fallen in love with a fabulous team of gals who have put together the most romantic styled shoot. A styled shoot all about a beachside elopement. No frills, or any bells or whistles, just simply a bride and groom together with two friends sharing a wonderful moment. The simpleness of this shoot is what I am loving. I am not into the glam and gltiz all the time, (do not get me wrong, I do like a bit of bling time to time), but when you have something as beautiful and sweet as this elopement, none of that glamour is needed.  As the Beatles say, “All you need is love”, and that is exactly what I see in this shoot. From the moment the first image came across my computer screen, I knew I was going to fall for this one. Yep, fallen pretty hard. Thank you to Loveridge Photography, The Wild Poppy, along with Twiggs Floral Design and other fantastic vendors for inspiring all the bohemian loving brides out there. Including me!

From Loveridge Photography

Taylor, from A Wild Poppy, and I wanted to create a romantic elopement with a group of small friends. We both love intimate parties where there is a lot of attention to detail and feel like we will start seeing this more and more with elopements. Her style of minimal bohemian in her store and life gave us the perfect theme and the foggy beach of Montana de Oro was the perfect setting.

From Carmen of Expressionary Events
Our inspiration for this shoot came from the gorgeous southern californian beaches. We wanted to create a beach feel for the Hilton, Costa Mesa.  So, for the bride that wants to bring elements of beach that can’t necessary afford the beach venue, the beach elements can be incorporated and brought into the hotel. Seashells were added in the vases of the centerpieces, and the bride’s jewelry has stars and seashells. We wanted to use the word LOVE in a creative way. It is used with the bride’s earrings, on the aisle runner, and even on the plates of the cake. A fun summer leading into fall wedding idea with inspiration colors that could be used for either season.  Lush, romantic flowers, celebrating love.

July 4th Wedding Weekend Must Do’s

With the Fourth of July  here, and all the barbecues  beach days, and relaxing activities, weddings are also here. Yep, many couples will choose a long weekend to celebrate their love with close friends and family. Why not? I am a total fan of long weekends and weddings. It is the perfect way to spend time with the ones you love for more than just one day. When the wedding day comes, it is hard to spend that quality time with each and every guest. So why not extend the celebrations into a few more days? I think that the fourth of July weekend is one of those weekends where you can totally do this! Here are some ideas of how you can celebrate with your guests at two of my favorite Southern Orange County spots!

  • Dana Point Harbor: A quaint beach town in the lovely city of Dana Point, California. Besides its gorgeous views and beach-side living, this town offers so many fun filled activities for you and your guests. You can go  kayaking,  stand up paddle boarding,  and jet skiing. Want to go Whale-watching? Sure, you can do this too!  What is great is that if any of your guests have children, this is a perfect location for them. There is a small beach called “baby beach” which has shallow water, no waves,  soft sands, and plenty of room to make sand castles! So, your guests who are parents can really enjoy a day at the beach without the worry about waves and a huge crowd. Kids love this place! You can also enjoy seafood at many of the restaurants on the harbor, or if you are feeling like a treat, then there is a famous ice cream place too. Kids will love this as well.  If you are not feeling like going to a restaurant  then you can have a barbecue with your guests. The harbor has some great spots with a grill, and covered picnic tables. The parking is free and the view? Well, the view is amazing. Imagine barbecuing, playing ball, games, or just relaxing…all on the gorgeous waters. It is incredible. So, if you are having a wedding on a long weekend like the 4th of July, then consider Dana Point Harbor. You and your guests will have a great time!

  • Laguna Beach: Ah, Laguna Beach, California. I may have mentioned this spot a few times before, but I really love this town. Not only does it offer spectacular ocean views from about anywhere you are, it has some of the finest eateries. Whatever your palate desires, there is a restaurant for you and your guests. Want an ocean-view seat? No problem, there are several fantastic places with perfect views of the ocean. Enjoy sunset views with dinner with your guests. Laguna Beach of course has a main beach area where you can play basketball, walk the boardwalk, get some rays, swim, or just relax in the sun. I can go on and on about this amazing spot, but I want to bring your attention to a exclusive and private spot. If you are having your wedding celebrations on a long weekend and want to avoid the large crowds, then I have the perfect place for you. Hotel Laguna is located right in the heart of Laguna Beach. If you stay at this hotel, you have access to the a private beach which comes fully equipped with chairs, lounge chairs, towels, and a server. You do not have to worry about getting to the beach early to hold your spot. It is a fabulous hotel and great service.  Treat yourself and your guests to an amazing weekend in Laguna Beach, California. If you are looking for fine foods, gorgeous ocean views, beach side fun, or a relaxing time, then this is the place for you.

10 California Locales for your Wedding & Honeymoon

If you currently live in the Golden State, are originally from Cali, or have always wanted to visit, there is no better place to have your wedding or honeymoon than right here! These 10 California Bridal Hot Spots are sure to entice you to at least book a trip to do some wedding or honeymoon venue ‘research’!

1. South Bay Sizzle – Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach

Combined, these beach towns create the ultimate Southern California experience. With its ritzy shops, luxury hotels, and hot bods on the volleyball sand courts, Manhattan Beach doesn’t disappoint if you’re looking for an ‘as seen on TV’ beach scene! Check out Shade Hotel for a possible wedding venue. Hermosa Beach is a bit more organic, being the location of choice for local surfers. Redondo Beach, or more appropriately Redondo Pier, is our own little Coney Island featuring an arcade, paddle boats, ice cream treats, and an open seafood market with live creatures!

2. Victorian Romance in San Luis Obispo

Enjoy tea for two in the famous Madonna Inn, named after local pioneer, Alex Madonna. The Victorian architecture and turn of the century gardens & décor will inspire you to indulge in your harlequin fantasies! Oh, and did I mention they have themed hotel rooms? Go to brunch at The Apple Farm, an old time favorite spot with mouthwatering American cuisine. For a daytime excursion, head South to See Canyon to pick up fresh apples of multiple varieties! A wedding at the Madonna Inn and planned weekend here for your guests is sure to be unique.

3. Its Always Sunny in San Diego

Treat your honey to a Padres game at the gorgeous PetCo ballpark, just steps to the famed Gaslamp district. Its basically the Vegas strip of Southern California. Grab some drinks & dinner, then dance the night away! Save the Zoo and Sea World for the family trip.

4. Cozy little Cabin for 2 in Big Bear

Great for summer lovin’ or a wintertime romp in the snow, Big Bear is worth the gorgeous drive up the mountain. Cool Cabins of Big Bear offer themed cabins based on your tastes. You can go fishing, hiking, and boating in the summer, or hit the slopes in the winter! For a truly intimate or family only wedding, this would be a beautiful setting. You can rent a huge cabin with 7 or 8 rooms with a large yard area for the ceremony (if its snowing, in front of the fire hearth) or book a few cabins nearby each other.

5. Mission Style Fun in Santa Barbara

My friend got married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse in 2009 and to this day, it is still my favorite wedding location. The early California-Spanish architecture is truly inspiring, and the city charges only a minimal fee for use. Visit the Santa Barbara Mission, the Santa Barbara Courthouse, and boutique shopping on State Street.

6. Go Glamping (Glamorous + Camping) at El Capitan Resort

A 5 minute drive up the 101 North takes you to the hidden and best kept secret of Santa Barbara, El Capitan Resort! Rustic, spacious canvas tents set up with plush beds, lamps, and bedside tables adorn the campsite, complete with nearby communal bathrooms and a grocery/gift shop and café. Get married in Santa Barbara, then honeymoon at El Capitan. If your wedding party is the camping type, there is a huge Yurt that appears to be available to rent for large events. Be sure to book your yurt & tents well in advance!

7. Wine Tasting in Paso Robles

Treat your senses to the delights of the vine in the popular Paso Robles wine country. The weather is just perfect for tasting outdoors while overlooking generations of old vines. Wineries are always a lovely place to get married as well, since there’s tons of space, delicious food & wine pairings, and gorgeous views as far at the eye can see….

8. Leave Your Hearts in San Francisco

This cultural hub always is and always has been at the cutting edge of entertainment, arts, cuisine, shopping, and trends. Not to mention it is chock-full of significant historical sites. Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Haight-Ashbury, and Ghiradelli square….need I say more??

9. Sonoma Valley/ Dry Creek Vineyards

Head even further up the coast to Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek (take that chocolate with you) to sample some of the best wines in the world! Sit in world-class tasting rooms overlooking massive vineyard estates, making friends with tourists from around the world and sometimes on a lucky day, the owner of the estate drops by for a visit!

10. Peace Out – Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey

These three areas have no shortage of fabulous hotels, exciting nightlife, and million dollar yachts! If your wedding party is the big-city type, this is the place for you. Between The Erwin hotel, Shutters, The Huntley, The Fairmont, and The Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey, you’ll be sitting pretty on your big day and afterward! The nautically inclined can book a wedding on a yacht and cruise through the Marina during your ceremony and reception. Venice Beach and Santa Monica have tons of sightseeing and famous landmarks for you and your group to tour.

Let this humble list inspire you to begin researching and designing your big day & tomorrows in sunny, fantastic California!

Malibu, California Engagement Session from Defining Moments by Sheri Marie

The best way to end the weekend is by treating yourself to the most romantic, sweet, and adorable engagement session from Defining Moments by Sheri Marie. From Defining Moments by Sheri Marie…

Meet Vanessa Fontana & Ben Hanley. Vanessa is from Alaska and Ben is from Washington State. They met in High School when Vanessa moved to Washington State. This couple is very hip, elegant, and loves everything vintage. So they wanted their engagement session to represent every aspect of their personalities and what their wedding will be like.  Vanessa and Ben wanted two different scenes. One for a vintage picnic and the other one for some fun sunset shots. Vanessa loves everything vintage, but yet she has this elegant side to her as well. So she wanted her picnic theme to reflect all the inspiration photos that she had been searching for on Pinterest. They also wanted a nice location that was close to the beach.  We chose the Malibu State Park and El Matador Beach as the perfect locations.

From the moment Vanessa emailed me wanting me to do her engagement photos, we had an instant connection. She was very excited that I was available to do her photos and excited that we had the same style and vision for her session. So that made me even more excited to work with her and Ben because we were all on the same page. Spending the afternoon with these two was a ton of fun! You can definitely see the love these two share between the two of them, as it just radiates off. Their love is contagious! The whole shoot I was wishing my husband was there so I could just give him a big kiss, haha.  Ben and Vanessa are very down to earth, chill and fun! We were all laughing and joking around all day, which made for a great time together!

They will be tying the knot on July 27, 2013 in Washington State.
