Citrus State Park Wedding

A wedding after my Orange County hometown heart. Growing up in Orange County, California, there were so many orange trees all over the town, that you can smell the lovely scent of citrus. I loved that smell as it always put a huge smile on my face. When I received this gorgeous wedding from Jaime Davis Photography,  I knew it was going to be amazing. First of all because she is one of my favorite photographers, and secondly because of the beautiful location. Orange trees all around, just like my childhood, and I could not stop smiling after each and every image. The memories came back, and my heart is happy.  Enjoy the pretty details from this Citrus State Park wedding. You may need to grab a cup of coffee because I think you will want to  browse through the images a  few times. I am on my third cup. Yeah its THAT good.

From Jaime Davis Photography

Chelsea and Justin’s wedding day was located at Citrus State Park in Riverside, California. I was over the moon when I found out the location because I have always wanted to shoot a wedding at an orange grove. This wedding’s location was amazing, but what was even more amazing was the sweet and romantic moments these two shared. Chelsea and Justin exchanged Justin’s grandparent’s wedding bands, and I almost lost it. I teared up at this moment because I love all things that has to do with family history. It was so special and very personable. What an honor to capture such a intimate moment.  The rest of the day was a blast while taking photos of the gorgeous couple, family, and friends, and other fun and sweet moments.

I was honored to be apart of Chelsea and Justin’s big day! Congrats XOXO

Lovely words from the bride…

A California take on an English Garden Party….  Sophisticated.Rustic.Romantic

It was a late summer day, not a cloud in the sky.  The bride awoke early in her hotel room and “Halo” by Beyonce – the song that had always reminded her of her fiancé – played as she finished pouring her heart out onto the paper she’d be reading her vows from later that day.  As she gazed out the window, she worried about the sun and the increasing heat; would the guests melt during the ceremony, would the flowers be ok, would her designer get everything perfect…?

A knock on the door broke her from her anxious thoughts as hair, makeup, and photographers bustled into the room.  As the music played, and the busyness in the room increased, the bride didn’t have a moment left for worrying.  Soon, the group descended the elevator of the Island Hotel in Newport Beach and entered the waiting limo.

Upon arrival, the bride giggled as she passed the 7 foot, amazingly lifelike poster board of her and her fiancé holding a welcome sign as she was quickly escorted inside the bridal suite of the Oak Creek Golf Club.   Custom vintage signs located throughout the property added rustic charm while also directing guests.  At the ceremony site outside, guests enjoyed lemon-mint, melon, and coffee flavored granitas from an Italian Granita Stand, took mini Polaroid pictures to take home and to pin to the couples custom picture board (used in lieu of a traditional Guest Book) while they listened to the melodious notes of the ukulele playing acapella group.

The Officiant took his place under the second beautifully lush arch along the aisle.  The aisle was decorated with rose petals in the shape of the bride and groom’s monogram that their wedding designer created.  Ladies took parasols as everyone was invited to take their seats.  The acapella singers switched to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as the groom walked down the aisle and the bridal party followed.  Emotions peaked and tears began to flow as the singers once again switched songs – this time to “Going to the Chapel”, and the bride’s father took her by the arm to escort her out the door and to their long walk towards the aisle.

Though her custom made silk cathedral length veil was drawn over her face, once the bride was in view of the gorgeous ceremony site and her seated guests, she could see clearly that her worries had been in vain!  Her designer had thought of everything and executed it perfectly!  Everything was beautiful, the temperature was perfect, and the waves of open white parasols made for amazing and artistic photos.  Her guests smiled expectantly as she approached, the harmony of the acapella singers was spot on, and at last her eyes met her groom’s.  Her veil was lifted and the couple beamed at one another with ear to ear smiles as if it were the very first time.  At that moment, the bride was filled with happiness and the crowd seemed to fade away.

At the commencement of the ceremony, fast paced, wedding-themed Persian music boomed through the speakers (an ode to the bride’s half Persian Culture).  The couple’s Persian DJ, Taraneh was notorious for getting guests to their feet and this was no exception!  Everyone cheered as the couple made their way back down the aisle and to the waiting golf cart that swept them away to hidden romantic spots for picture taking.

Meanwhile, guests were ushered to the Cocktail Hour overlooking the Reception site.  A charcuterie table abounded with cheeses, meats, and breads, matched only by the overflowing fruit table nearby.  Waiters weaved through the crowd with plentiful and unique passed appetizers like shots of tomato bisque with bites of grilled cheese and a tuna tartar over wasabi chips.   An iced tea and lavender lemonade stand was a clever addition, perfect for the late August afternoon.

Close by was a lounge area beautifully decorated with pictures of the couple in gorgeous frames, bird cages spilling out with flowers, and benches decorated with hand sewn pillows custom made for the event.  The guests ate, drank, and were merry as a Persian violinist and drummer serenaded them.

Soon it was time for the guests to head to the reception area as the DJ announced that the bride and groom would be making their way out.     Four rows of long Amalfi wood tables covered the grass, each with custom burlap and lace silverware holders and runners copiously decorated with candles and vintage bird cages of all different sizes spilling out with an assortment of white flowers and mosses in varying shades of green.   Large market umbrellas each adorned with several ivory paper lanterns provided both shade before the sun went down and romantic lighting once it set.

The music momentarily fell silent as the DJ announced the couple and then reared up as hand in hand, they entered the dance floor.  It was now the moment the couple had been preparing for….  Their song played and the couple broke out into their choreographed waltz.  As the song approached its end and the bride was dipped by her groom, the music suddenly changed to a traditional Persian song, called Baba Karam and the couple suddenly grabbed their props – a hat and scarf for him and a jangly gypsy skirt for her – and began their surprise custom choreographed dance.  Their guests went wild with laughter and cheers.  The couple was so happy they had successfully pulled it off, there was nothing left to do, but to relax and enjoy the night.

The market string lighting overhead lit the dance floor as everyone began to dance the night away.  After dinner, guests were treated to both a lavishly custom decorated dessert table and candy stand.  Each was dazzlingly decorated and plentifully supplied with sweets!  The dessert table which was custom built from pallet wood for the event added to the night’s rustic, romantic charm.  The dessert table was covered with specialty tarts, mini pies, cupcakes, a macaroon tower, and both a bride’s and a groom’s cake.  The bride wanted to surprise her groom and did so with a cake in the shape of a beach volleyball that sat on a platform decorated like the beach – an ode to his favorite pastime!  The candy table had several of the couple’s favorite candies and take away bags providing guests a second favor to take home.  Guests toasted the couple with custom signature cocktails and they proceeded to live happily ever after.

The Lab and The Camp Engagement Session from Happy Photos

You know by now that I am in love with engagement sessions. I really LOVE them! But, this one has a special place in my heart. The locations are set at the famous, Anti-Mall (the Lab), and the Camp in Costa Mesa, California. A place that you would find me in my college years, studying in the funky courtyard, with unique little details all around. It was the perfect place to study and feel relaxed. These days I visit both of these fabulous locations when I want a bite to eat. I can literally spend hours at either of these locations. Good food, and good ambiance. I can see why this adorable couple chose these unique locations for their e-session. It fits their personalities, and brings out a certain joy and love which is totally obvious in the images below. See how Happy Photos captured the sweet love these two show off in each and every image. You may want to grab your coffee, and sit down for this one. Its a pretty good one!

Meet Shauna and Greg. Shauna is the marketing director at Scott’s Resturant, and Greg is a school teacher. When I asked  them about their engagement session, they told me that they  wanted something out of the ordinary. (So, no beach or park location). But rather they wanted a location which fit their fun and quirky personalities! The Lab and the Camp in Costa Mesa was the perfect location for these two love birds. Each spot had a unique detail about it, and the couple seemed to fit right in. There were some pretty amazing spots to take photographs at both of these locations. Shauna and Greg made my job easy. They were so much fun to work with, and I could not help but smile behind the lens.  Congrats to Shauna and Greg!

Three Romantic Places to Propose in Orange County, California

The holidays not only bring holiday cheer, but a whole lot of love and romance as well. Looking for a romantic place to pop the question to the one you love?  You know, the one that is your main squeeze, your everything, the love of your life?  Then check our fabulous list of places in Orange County, California.

Disneyland: If you are a total Disney fan, and enjoy Disneyland with your loved one, this is the perfect place to propose. There are so many fantastic spots in the Disneyland Resort to choose from. In front of the magic castle, on main street, or maybe choose a ride that is favorite for you both. However, my favorite is at the Blue Bayou, the intimate restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Yes, proposals at restaurants may be very traditional, however this is not your ordinary restaurant. Its inside a ride! A classic Disneyland ride which is a total Disneyland favorite. The Blue Bayou is super romantic and makes for an amazing ambience of nightfall, hanging lanterns, and lovely sounds. Make it a magical time!

Beach:  Southern Orange County is home to some of the most gorgeous beaches. Laguna Beach, San Clemente, Salt Creek Beach, or Newport Beach are all fabulous beach towns with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.  You can not go wrong with any of these lovely beaches. Plan out a date night, go to a restaurant for dinner, and then take a romantic stroll on the beach. Once it is sunset, stop off one of the lifeguard towers and pop the question.

1382889_10151964301423210_91105531_nHiking Trail: If you are a nature person, and you share this with your loved one, a hiking trail is a pretty nice place to express your love. Laguna Beach’s Top of the World Laguna Beach’s Top of the World is a beautiful spot with stunning ocean views. Enjoy a hike surrounded by nature’s best, and end with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Balboa Island, California Engagement Session from Jaime Davis Photography

Today’s engagement session makes me so happy and full of joy. I am totally giddy right now.  Why?  Two reasons. First, because it features a super sweet and adorable couple who is so obviously in love it is not even funny.  I mean seriously? Can this couple be any cuter? Second, because the location of this e-session takes place at a location where I spent many of my childhood days enjoying the beach and all the fun activities. Oh, and then throw in a very talented and amazing photographer, Jaime Davis Photography  into the equation, and you have yourself a pretty sweet engagement session.  Fun, laughter, and smiles all around. Can it be any better?

From Jaime Davis Photography

Meet Whitney and Frank. They both enjoy the beach and love to spend most of their time there. So for their engagement session we made our way to the charming and lovely Balboa Island located in Southern Orange County. A perfect location for these two love birds. We got lucky, because the weather was just perfect for a Southern California October month.  October can be tricky with the weather as it can be really cold and gloomy or warm and  sunny. So we scored! Witney and Frank are such a fun loving couple and they laughed the whole time. We had a blast taking photographs at the Balboa Fun Zone, including riding the Ferris Wheel.  We also had a chance to go to Balboa Pier and take a few beautiful shots there.  This session was super fun and we had such a great time. This couple knows how to have fun while taking photographs. They are for sure going to be ready for their April 2014 wedding. Congrats to Whitney and Frank on their engagement!
