Urban Vintage NYC Wedding

My vintage loving heart is beating pretty hard right now. It is all due to this incredible New York City wedding and some of  loveliest details I have seen. This wedding is all about the details, and these details are nothing short of style, glamour, and elegance.  I have to talk about the bride’s shoes for a moment.  These shoes are what you call, bling bling. Oh my goodness, I can not stop staring at them.  They are amazing! This gorgeous couple look like movie stars on their wedding day, and I had a hard time choosing which photos to feature, so I think I shared most of them! Thanks to  Zorz Studios for capturing the true love and beauty of this couple and their wedding day. Your week is about to get it really good as we kick it off with this superb NYC vintage wedding.

From Zorz Studios...

Heather and Brian worked in insurance for the same big company but never actually ran into each other in the building, partly because Brian at the time worked as an outside Rep and didn’t come into the office frequently. They met each other out at a company sponsored event, after which point became inseparable.
The bride got ready at the beautiful Wythe Hotel with amazing floor-to-ceiling windows of the Manhattan skyline, and an interior staircase leading to a private terrace. Surrounded by the toile wallpaper, and beautiful exposed beams, she was in love with the space and felt completely calm and at ease getting ready with her beautiful bridesmaids.
For the ceremony, Heather wore a gorgeous lace mermaid gown which she found at The Bridal Garden, a not-for-profit bridal boutique in New York City in which all proceeds benefit education for disadvantaged children. “It was awesome to know my purchase went to such a terrific cause! I bought it off the rack and it fit me almost perfectly!” says the bride.
Brian gifted Heather a locket with a picture inside of her mom and her. Her mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years ago and was physically not able to attend the wedding and this was extremely difficult for the bride.
We expected the heavy rain… Just as the skies opened and it started to pour, we arrived safe and dry inside Jane’s Carousel where I managed to capture the incredible moments and some of clients’ favorite pictures are of them outside in the rain!
The couple fell in love with The Green Building for its effortlessly beautiful interior and the vintage flair. The Green Building was previously a brass foundry and has beautiful original brick walls, exposed beam ceilings, gold chandeliers, and even a back speakeasy room equipped with vintage decor and red velvet curtains. Their vendors helped create a warm and intimate setting.
“The rabbi read our vows of why we wanted to marry each other, the touching vows Brian wrote brought me to tears and my favorite part during the ceremony was when Brian reached over to wipe my tears away,” says Heather. “I am Jewish and Brian Protestant, so we decided to fuse our backgrounds by incorporating an Irish ‘hand-fasting’ and a stomping of the glass, both beautiful traditions and incredibly sentimental.”
After the dinner, dancing, and cake we ended with a food truck by Wafels & Dinges which was a huge hit! Paying homage to the speakeasy theme, guests took home little bottles of whiskey.

A Vintage Bridal Session from Micah McCoy Studio

Bridal sessions are one of my favorite photo-shoots. They really are. I mean, it is all about the bride, her gown, her hair, make up, and all the pretty bridal details. What is not to love? This bridal session is no exception. Located in an historic part of town and featuring a bride who is in love with vintage details as much as I am. Another reason why I love this bridal session so much. It is personal, creative, and charming. Can we talk about the bride’s pretty details? That lace dress is absolutely  stunning. Wow! And then the lovely shoes compliments the dress just perfectly. Oh, and can we please talk about all her accessories? Pearls, pearls, and more pearls. Just pairs up beautifully with the dress and this pretty bride. I can go and on about this bridal session, but I think its best that you take a look at the gorgeous images captured by Micah McCoy Studio . A photographer after my vintage loving heart. Micah McCoy Studio  did a brilliant job in capturing the style and personality of this bride.

From Micah McCoy Studio

Autumn was looking for a vintage vibe for this bridal shoot, so I booked space in a local studio space in Urbana’s historic downtown. Autumn’s vintage dress complimented the setting well and she looked absolutely breathtaking descending the stairs of the building. It was like being in an old movie. Autumn made her flowers herself from paper and decorated her shoes for the occasion. To add to the authenticity of the shoot I shot many of the images on black and white film, and used vintage lenses.

Rustic Urban SmogShoppe Los Angeles Wedding

When it comes to a DIY wedding, it is not so easy. It takes blood, sweat, tears, and whole lot of love and energy infused into each and every detail. It can be fabulous or look like a craft project. But I have to tell you, this rustic urban wedding is no craft project. Oh no. This wedding is absolutely stunning. And all beautifully designed by the couple.   From the Marigold and Grey color scheme, the ridiculously gorgeous table settings, and the lovely escort cards, this is a true handmade wedding. It is all about showing the love you have for each other through the amazing details. When you have a lovely DIY wedding combined with an incredible photographer like Michael Segal Photography, then it is a pretty stellar wedding.  When the first image from this rustic urban wedding  popped up on my computer screen, within a nano second, I knew I wanted to feature this wedding. With each and every image that followed, my mouth dropped so hard, I had to force it shut! I could not believe the images I was viewing.  Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to browse through the stunning photos of this lovely affair.

From the Grooms, Joe & Sunny…

We wanted our wedding style to reflect our personalities and cultures. Our ceremony had a mix of Western and Indian traditions. We had a gospel choir to reflect Joe’s Christian upbringing and faith. We exchanged jai malas (flower garlands) to include Indian wedding customs since Sunny is Indian. We all walked out to the choir singing, “Seasons of Love” from Rent.

We chose a rustic urban theme and that’s why we chose SmogShoppe because it wasn’t your typical wedding venue and reflected our style. We also did a lot of DIY stuff, such as our escort cards and table settings. We worked hand in hand with our florist, Twig & Twine and we were able to find vintage hobnob vases for the centerpieces that guests were able to take home. We also found awesome vintage letter light up marquees that added a great personal touch to our reception.

We had a cocktail hour with a blue grass band and we served mac and cheese balls, samosas and vegan sliders. One of our favorite bands is Pink Martini, so we made sure there were plenty martinis during cocktail hour. In addition we had three other speciality drinks – Tipsy Arnold Palmer, Sita Margarita and the Bees Knees. Food is a big part of our lives, vegetarian food in particular. We had Cashew Creme Lasagna, Potatoes Au Gratin, Vegan Celebration Loaf, Quinoa Alfresco Greens with peaches and almonds. Not to exclude our carnivore friends, we had Boneless Apricot Rosemary Chicken with mango salsa. Our cake was 3 layered with strawberry, lemon and coconut flavors.

We really valued all our friends and guests presence at our wedding and didn’t want anyone to feel left out at the dinner table, so we set our tables as long picnic tables (in addition to the head table) where everyone sat close to each other and ate as one big family. We also had a surprise dinner performance by a local Bollywood Troupe that mixed together some fun Bollywood songs.

Our first dance was a mashup of Adele’s rendition of “Make you feel my love” and Gossip’s, “Men in Love”. This really got the crowd to the dance floor and they stayed there all night! We stayed away from the perennial wedding favorites like the chicken dance etc. we really collaborated with our DJ to come up with a list that reflected our eclectic taste in music. We had booked an ice cream cart and weren’t sure if it would be too much food, but in the end it was a good decision because it was one of the hottest days of the year! So with all the dancing, it was a nice touch.
