Mother’s Day Inspired Cakes by Alexis Sturgeon

Good morning lovelies. It is a gorgeous Saturday morning here at BHL. As I look outside the window all I see are blue skies, and the sun shinning away. Oh, I do plan to go out and soak in all the beautiful nature…but first I have a very special Mother’s Day treat for you.  I hope you have had your breakfast (or maybe you are just waking up), and now ready to indulge into some sweet goodness. My gorgeous and very talented gal Alexis from Cakes by Alexis Sturgeon has created a lovely cake for Mother’s Day weekend. At BHL, we are always finding ways to celebrate the special days, and what a better way to celebrate Mommy’s Day than with an amazing and sweet cake which is also a beautiful piece of art.  The inspiration? Besides the obvious, a day dedicated for all the moms, aunts, and grandmothers out there?  Alexis was inspired by a beautiful antique air vent found in Italy which happens to be french inspired from the deco era. This simple, yet pretty cake is the perfect way to shower your mom with all the love she deserves. For the big day, you can show mom how much you love and appreciate her with a  beautiful cake. Mothers of the bride or mothers of the groom play a very special role for the big day, so why not get a cake in their honor? How special will they feel on your important day?  Good idea right? I mean, who can say no to an awe-inspiring cake? I love sweets and I love celebrations, and the combination of the two makes my heart go pitter-patter.  It is the kind of day that makes me want to jump up and down. So, grab your cup of joe, and be ready to be inspired!

Sneak Peek of TLC’s “I Found the Gown” Episode: May 10th

It is Friday, and what a better way to start the weekend than with a new episode TLC’s, “I Found the Gown”. This show is amazing and full of surprises. If you have not ever seen the show, well let me tell you all about it, and hopefully you will get hooked just like I did. This show features a lovely married couple, Rick and Leslie DeAngelo who own VOWS, a discount bridal boutique in Boston, Massachusetts.  They provide brides high-end designer gowns with very affordable price tags. Selling these deeply discounted bridal gowns for 50-80% off retail is no easy task. Rick and Leslie search high and low in factory attics, boutique back rooms, and department store warehouses across the world to score these sought-after looks for less. Each episode will follow their journey to find these amazing treasures, and then back at the shop to share them with three brides and the VOWS consultants.

  • On tonight’s first episode, the first bride is Evelyn who is renewing her vows with her husband. She is looking for a non-white gown with some bling. However, her entourage have conflicting views on the gowns. What gown will Evelyn choose?
  • The second bride  Gina is a total coupon lover, and is looking for a bargain! She is in search for a a gown which has lots of bling and sparkle. The more sparkle, the better. Will she find a gown with that glitz for the right price?
  • The third bride is Ashleigh has arrived for her fitting appointment and panics when a pair of scissors come out. That is not the only thing that was emotional for  Ashleigh, she has one more request to make for her gown. What is that request?

IFTG_ProdStills_EP209_002

  • On the Second episode, the first bride is Marquita who is looking for a heck of a deal on her bridal gown. She has traveled a long way and want it to be all worth it! She is looking for something that will really show off her curves. The problem is that her maid-of-honor does not love the gown that Marquita falls in love with. Will Marquita’s trip be worth it? Will she go home with the gown of her dreams?
  • The second bride is Ashley who is hoping she can find the gown that Jessica Simpson wore on her wedding day. She has been searching, and really hopes to find it at VOWS. With a tight budget, will she be able to find that gown and feel like a celebrity?
  • The third bride is Beth who is love with lace and a little bit of bling. She really wants a gown with glitz to compliment her Vegas wedding.

TLC’s ” I Found the Gown” airs Friday at 10/9c. So set your DVR’s, or watch it live tonight!

Great Gatsby Glamour from California Wedding Day’s Urban Unveiled

Our Great Gatsby inspiration continues here at BHL. Can you tell we are a bit obsessed with The Great Gatsby? Yep,  it is all we are talking about these days. What makes our day even more glamorous and we hope yours too, is a look into a fabulous event we recently attended. We are talking luxurious, charming and elegant details all wrapped around our love for weddings. Two of our favorites together in one gorgeous venue? That’s right.  California Wedding Day’s Urban Unveiled event in Los Angeles, California took place at the breathtaking venue of Vibiana. The perfect setting where the 1920s meets today’s modern bride.  Oh what a fabulous evening it was. An evening spent immersed with all the glitz and glamour that some of the most exclusive collection of wedding professionals have to offer. All surrounded by the stylish 1920s elements with rich black and white, luxurious muted metallic colors,  and all the diamonds and pearls. Get ready to get a little sophisticated and all glammed up, because you are about to see some pretty gorgeous lovelies.

Pre-Wedding Parties Inspired by The Great Gatsby

Giddy over Gatsby? Us too. We are starting a new week with celebration of the Great Gatsby movie premiere . Some of us have pulled our old copies of the book, reading it all over again. We are totally obsessed with the Great Gatsby era and all the elegance, charm, and glamour it brings.  So, when we received this Great Gatsby inspired shoot, our Gatsby loving hearts geared into full swoon mode! We are talking total bliss.  Carmen Fuentes of Expressionary Events  is the gal behind this awe-inspiring concept, as she brings the Great Gatsby to us in the most glamorous of ways.  We can not get over the stunning details that are getting us even more excited for the movie! To kick things off, we are going to share a couple of looks to get you not only inspired and prepped for the movie premiere, but also for  your wedding day look.  Get ready to feast your pretty eyes on  jaw-dropping glitz and glam.

First, a little about the shoot…

The Great Gatsby gives us glimpse of an era of elegance, sophistication and glamour and so we drew inspiration from this great American novel to capture the looks. Our vision was to portray a prosperous time in American history by bringing in elements of lush and romance into the unique décor details of each space. The shoot was held at the prestigious Sky Room, located atop the historic Breakers of Long Beach Hotel. Since the 1920’s, this Art Deco venue has entertained Hollywood luminaries such as Elizabeth Taylor, Charles Lindberg, and Cary Grant.

With the May 2013 release of Baz Luhrmann’s adapted film of the Great Gatsby, our goal was to offer inspiration options for brides who would like to capture this moment in time and incorporate modern elements into their wedding theme. We noticed many bridal gown designers such as Kitty Chen and Allure anticipated the release of this film and they created a modern line of wedding gowns and accessories in vintage silk, satin and lace. These and other designers are bringing a modern feeling to the classic shape of the Roaring Twenties with beaded cap sleeves, low backs and drop waists.

Another element of inspiration for this shoot came from Tiana Vega’s collection of evening gowns. The collection includes sleek fabrics and symmetries as well as dark colors that are reminiscent of the 1920’s. Much of the inspiration for the menswear seen in this shoot were taken by the Ralph Lauren designs portrayed in the 1974 adaption of The Great Gatsby. The fashion designs of Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Liz Claiborne are proving that styles from the 20’s, (i.e. newsboy caps and three-piece suits) still deem relevant and withstanding the ever evolving world of fashion trends. The Color palette for the menswear in this shoot consisted of white, gray and tan tones.

  • Jay Gatsby Inspired “Bachelor Party” Look:  What would Jay Gatsby’s bachelor party look like? This look is 1920’s inspired with a modern twist. The men are wearing suits with newspaper boy caps, textured ties, bow ties and trimmed dress shirts.

Colors: Navy Blue, Browns, Gray, Gold, Blue

Patterns: Stripes, Solids, Prints

Brands/Designers: Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Alfani, Claiborne

Photography Fun from Jonas Photo Bot

Good morning Sunday goers, oh and Happy Cinco de Mayo! What a better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with a fun, interactive, and super exciting vendor! We are obsessed with photo booths and we just can’t get enough of them. We live for them! All day, everyday, if we could, we would be snapping photos, props and all. Jonas Photo Bot is today’s vendor feature, and they really caught us off guard. Why? Well, there is no actual booth to step inside to start the photo frenzy. Yep, no booth. Its an open space.  So, no more squeezing into a booth trying to get a bunch of people in one shot. Choose a space, put up a background you love, get some friends, and snap! Get ready to meet the photo booth minus the booth.

About Jonas Photo Bot

Photo Booths have been prevalent on weddings and corporate events for the past few years.  We’ve all have seen these at events and they undoubtedly add a lot of fun to the party.  Hiring a great photographer for your wedding is crucial, but there’s still this human element that stops people from being naturally wacky when there’s a human being behind the camera.  And that’s what makes photo booths a really fun complement to your photographer.

Jonas adds a twist to the photo booth fun.  Although technically, Jonas is not a photo booth, because there’s is no booth.  Jonas is a free-standing robot that performs the same tasks as a photo booth.  What most people love about Jonas is his look.  He is sleek and stylish – something most people have never seen before.

Since he is free-standing, you can put him against any backdrop.  He requires a small footprint, yet he is still flexible in terms of the amount of people who can join in on the fun.  You don’t have a lot of space in your reception venue?  Not a problem!  He can be placed as close as 3 feet against a wall.  The more space you give him, the more people can join in on the fun!

With Jonas, a backdrop can be customized to match your wedding theme.  Our design team will work with you and come up with a backdrop that’s truly unique.  You got a crazy idea?  Let us know and we will go crazy with you!  Your backdrop is only limited by your imagination.

Jonas comes with unlimited on-site printing.  He utilizes a high-quality printer that prints within 8 seconds.  Your prints are ready by the time you put the props back to the rack.  The prints are awesome as a party favor!

Besides the usual props (goofy hats, fun facial hairs, etc), you have the option to use themed props.  Are you into Nintendo?  Star Wars?  Star Trek?  Pirates of the Carribean?  We got that.  Are you into something cool that we don’t know about?  Tell us about it and we’ll customize props for you as well!

Sneak Peek of TLC’s “I Found the Gown” Episode: May 3rd

Before you run off to enjoy a lovely weekend, I wanted to share some exciting news! You know that I am a huge fan of wedding shows right? I mean, we have had so much fun with TLC’s “Something Borrowed, Something New” and “Four Weddings”, that they have made our Fridays a total day of happiness and fun. Well, our Fridays just got better.   Yep, we are adding another amazing and fun wedding show into the mix. I am thrilled to share a sneak peek of the second season of TLC’s show, “I Found the Gown” which airs Friday at 10/9c.

I love this show and I think you will too. I love a good deal, and you are going to see some amazing deals for some gorgeous designer bridal gowns!

  • On tonight’s first episode, the first bride is Half-hearted bride Becca who is in love with Vera Wang gowns. Her heart is set with one in particular and hopes to find it at VOWS. Will she walk away with  Vera Wang gown?
  • The second bride is Jersey girl Kelly who is looking for a dress that stands out, but is not too flashy or trashy.
  • The third bride is Michaela who is looking for something vintage and with lace. To help find the perfect gown, her mother accompanies her. But, her mom is opinionated, and they do not  see eye to eye when it comes to couture.

IMG_gown

Will each of these bride’s find their perfect bridal gown to fit their budget? Tune in tonight to find out!

  • Second episode tonight is a little different than the norm. Oh it is going to be a good one though! A bus-load of brides and their entourages arrive from New York  and take over VOWS in hopes of scoring some amazing deals on designer wedding gowns. However, there is not much time to shop and they must race against the clock before it’s time to head back home. Will these brides find their dream bridal gown in time?
