Sneak Peek of TLC’s “Something Borrowed, Something New” Season 2 Episode 5

Ready for the weekend? Before you get going on Super Bowl party plans and food shopping, make sure to make room for  a new episode of TLC’s SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING NEW.  Before it is Game time, grab some favorite treats and sit down to watch another great episode of this fun-filled bridal show. We are totally ready to see what this episode has in store for us. Lets do this!!

If you are a SBSN (SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING NEW) newbie, then let us tell you a little bit about this amazing show. This show follows a bride’s journey to find the perfect wedding dress for her big day. However there is a twist!  The bride will have to choose a new designer bridal gown, or a fashionably redesigned family heirloom. Who will help the bride find something new and something borrowed for her special day? Each episode is hosted by designer Kelly Nishimoto and stylist Sam Saboura, who will work with the bride to help choose between two dress options. Kelly will turn a special, previously worn gown into a gown which is for the time, venue, and personality of the bride. The bride will also have a chance to work with Sam in shopping at a bridal salon to find a brand new stylish dress. What happens next? The bride will have to make a very important decision and choose between a one-of-a kind dress and a newly fashionable piece. Will the bride choose her mother’s wedding gown, or find something new and unique to her? Which one will the bride choose?

Tonight’s first episode features Joi, a bride who loves hr Filipino culture, and wants to look sexy on her wedding day. Her mom’s 1960’s coronation wedding gown is not exactly what Joi is looking for. It is way over the top to heavy to wear.  Can Sam and Kelly find a gown for  Joi  that balances between her heritage & her inner fashionista?

The second episode features bride, Katie who is having a Valentine’s Day wedding.  Her mom’s dress? She does love the idea of wearing it, but it is missing some elements that she is looking to compliment her Valentine’s Day wedding. Tune in to find out what Sam finds on a limited budget! Also Kelly is determined to create the perfect gown for Katie’s wedding. Which one will she walk down the aisle in?

Three Super Bowl Beauty Tips

This year’s Super Bowl is merely days away, which means all the Super Bowl parties are right around the corner. Whether you and your fiance are going to a party, holding one yourself, or just enjoying the game together, we’ve got ways to show some team spirit in the cutest way. It doesn’t matter what team you’re rooting for either, we’re just here to make sure you look adorable.

Two-Toned Nails

You could do the accent nail, a french mani with team colors, or one of our favorites- the two-toned mani. Do one color as a base color with a glitter top coat over part of your nail (or all of it- up to you!). We tried out the accent colors of both teams, orange for the Broncos and green for the Seahawks, and did a blue glitter shade right over it. Both are bold, fun, and show your team spirit. We love this blue glitter polish by OPI, but any fun light blue would be beautiful.

Pairing Eyeliners

Football is all about teamwork- and so is this awesome look! If you’re adventurous, put on a thick line of the lighter color (orange or green) then do a tight line of blue close to your lashline. If you want to go a little lighter on liner, just do a dab of color on the inside corner of your eye and pair with a dark blue liner instead of your normal brown or black. We love the Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliners ($20, Sephora) and the Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencils ($19, Sephora) for bright, vibrant colors that last through the whole game.

Go for Glitter

If all else fails, grab some glitter! Get together with your girlfriends before the game and go crazy! Dab a touch of orange glitter over your lipstick to be a Bronco beauty or pack on the glitter over your whole eyelid to be a sassy Seahawk. Wear glitter anyway you want, just be sure to stock up on makeup remover for later. We have the Forever 21 glitter palette ($7.80, Forever 21) on retainer for fun events like the Super Bowl. Use it as an accent color in moderation or go all out to show how dedicated you are. If you have enough fun with it, you may be able to get the guys involved in the war paint too!

The Big Game is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with this super fun engagement session featuring an adorable couple who loves to show their spirit for football. We want to keep the team spirit going this week, and that is why we love this e-session so much. Of course it is even better when  Silver Gecko Photography  is there to capture the love that this couple shares with each other. It is kind of sweet to see a couple like this one, run on the football field, and share their obvious love for each other. So get your pom pom’s out and cheer for this cute couple!

From Silver Gecko Photography …

This was a very fun session! I’ve known Liz & Dave for years and I’m more than honored to photograph for them. Dave is one of my fraternity brothers from Sigma Phi Epsilon at Calif. State Univ., Northridge and Liz has always been a big supporter of our chapter. They’re both very fun loving people and huge sports fans!

Our session was originally supposed to start at the football field at Westlake High school, where Dave’s father coaches one of the football teams, but we couldn’t find the gate that was supposed to open for us. This actually worked in our favor since it was ridiculously hot and extremely sunny when we first arrived at the field. We decide to start with what was to be our second location, the beach at Point Mugu State Park. When we got to the beach Dave was telling me how they love to come to this beach since it isn’t well known and and they can watch the waves crash into the rocks at the shoreline.

This was my first time at the any beach since my honeymoon in Hawaii, so it was a little bittersweet, but photographing Dave & Liz interacting and enjoying the environment was great, despite the wind that was blowing Liz’s hair everywhere.

When we got back to the field in Westlake the lighting was perfect, thanks in part to the solar eclipse that was occurring.  I photographed Liz and Dave just playing around on the field and ended with them under the score board, with the setting sun behind them.

A Gorgeous Football Themed Wedding From Expressionary Events

As much as I am obsessed with all things wedding, I am a HUGE NFL football fan!  With football season coming to an end with the big game of the year, (The Super Bowl), we wanted to take a look at what a wedding would look like when it combines a couple’s love for football and their love for each other. Oh my goodness, it looks pretty darn good! I love it! A football themed  wedding may seem very tacky, but when  it is done right and you have the very talented Carmen Fuentes from Expressionary Events planning it, then you have yourself a fabulous wedding. This is why I am so in love with this wedding. It has the perfect amount of football details added to a gorgeously decorated wedding day. This wedding ticks all the boxes of what it means to have a couple of die hard football fans getting married in the most lovely of ways.

From Carmen at Expressionary Events

Audra and Danny got married at the beautiful Hotel Maya in Long Beach, CA and when planning their wedding, they wanted to somehow incorporate their love of football into the details.  The bride was a huge Redskins fan and the groom was a diehard Patriots fan. Although they rooted for opposite teams, they decided to add subtle details into their wedding and combine their love of football together.  The card-box was beautifully decorated with mini football helmets of their favorite team.  Each of the table numbers had alternating football jerseys of their favorite players as well as the bride and groom with their respective team.  The bride loved the team so much, her primary wedding colors was red and white as seen in her florals,  bouquet, and bridesmaids dresses. The color scheme was perfect for the venue because the hotel is known for its bold and bright hues and the wedding color made the perfect statement.

Elizabeth and Adrian flew out from Nevada to participate in the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. They thought what a better way to spend their day before the race at Disneyland with me and taking their engagement photos. Their love story is really sweet.  Adrian proposed to Elizabeth while going up the hill on California Screamin and Elizabeth screamed out a YES as they were coming down! Could it be more romantic? Come on! Although the park was crowded we had a fun time getting to know each other while walking around the park and shooting at some of our favorite locations. Elizabeth and Adrian are getting married this August at the Hotel Menage in Anaheim. It was such a fun filled day with an adorable couple!

Five Tips for your Wedding Registry

The day you and your loved one register is going to be one of the most fun days in your life. You get to run around your favorite store with a scanning gun and scan anything you’d want to receive as a gift. It’s time to get really excited. It’s also time to plan ahead to keep from getting wrapped up in all the fun. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you from “accidentally” registering for skinny jeans and several ice cream makers.

1. Assess the Goods

This will be easier if you already live with your fiance. Take some time to walk through your house to see what you have, what needs an upgrade, and what you have been wanting or needing. If you don’t live with your fiance, each of you should go through what items you’ll be bringing with you. Have an idea of what rooms will need to be filled (got four knife sets and no towels? That’s a problem). If your beloved toaster is on its’ last legs, keep that in mind too.

2. Make Lists

Make two lists- needs and wants. Your needs list is going to include any appliances that you’ll need daily, any home goods that you will need, or anything you love now that is falling apart. These are the things you would have to buy for the home anyway. Your wants list will be things you can upgrade, but don’t have to, or anything fun that you could have fun with (margarita machine, anyone?). It’s important to know the difference between the two.

3. Shop the Stores

It’s okay to register at more than one place, but pick your stores wisely. Stores like Macy’s and Target are great places to register because they’re easily accessible and have price points that are affordable. If you only register at Neiman Marcus, not all of your guests may be able to afford or even get to that store. Check out the stores online first to make sure they do carry items on your lists. If you have a destination wedding, do a quick store check to make sure that there is one in the area, just in case some of your traveling guests are planning on picking up  your wedding gift once they’ve gotten into town.

4. Give Yourself Time

It can be easy to be eager to get all your registering done, but don’t feel rushed or pressured to finish it quickly. Set aside a weekend to start and give yourself lots of time. Stores can be overwhelming and stressful. Don’t add any additional pressure on yourself by only allocating a short amount of time to shop. It’s supposed to be a fun day, don’t rush it!

5. Teamwork

Bring your fiance, your mom, or your maid of honor, but be sure that at least you have one person with you for moral support. Ideally, this will be your fiance who also has a needs and wants list. Your mom may be able to advise on what you’ll need in your house and your maid of honor knows you well enough to be helpful in tie breakers (blue blender or red blender?). Make a day of it and grab lunch first (never go shopping on an empty stomach!) so it doesn’t feel like a chore. Keep each other focused and enjoy registering!

Top Three Favorite Gowns Re-Designed By Kelly Nishimoto

As you know, I am a huge fan of TLC’s SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING NEW. I am really obsessed with all the lovely bridal details each and every week. What I am dying over right now, are the gowns that designer and co-star of the show, Kelly Nishimoto creates for each bride. I am so impressed with her amazing work, that I have picked my top three looks that Kelly has re-designed this season so far. If they look this good this early on in the season, then I can not imagine what Kelly has in store for us! This season Kelly has blown us away! We love you Kelly and all your mad skills!

Let’s take a look at the top three designs I love:

  • Terron:  This bride was determined to have gown that hugs her body and compliments her royal styled wedding.  Her mother’s dress did not exactly have the details that Terron was looking for. Kelly wanted to create a gown that only ticked off the boxes of her wish list, but also reflected Terron’s big personality. Let’s take a look at the before and after photos of the borrowed bridal gown. Let us know what you think!

Can you say WOW? My mouth dropped when I saw this gown! All I was saying was “OMG” like a billion times. Kelly created such an amazing gown which made this bride glow. I am having a total swoon moment with the back of this dress! Can you say Royal Wedding?

  • Sarah :  This bride is totally Daddy’s little girl and is super close to her father. It would mean so much if she could wear her grandmother’s bridal gown.  However, it is a 1942 bridal gown that is very delicate and falling apart. Kelly gets to work to create a gown that Sarah can walk down the aisle in, without it falling apart! Let’s take a look at this 1942 dress and what it looks like after Kelly does her magic.

Kelly was able to re-create this gown and make it totally wearable. Best part? It turned out to be a lovely dress with the prettiest of details! I was really blown away from this final look. Look at all the details! It is SO PRETTY!

  • Bridget:  This 6 ft tall bride-to-be was looking for a gown that would be simple, yet elegant for her rustic styled wedding. The borrowed gown is one that her mother and grandmother both wore on their wedding day. She loves the sentimental details of the dress, but its not totally her style.  It is a bit too modest, and wants to show off a little skin on her wedding day. Kelly starts with cutting off the sleeves and goes from there. Let’s take a look at the transformation from before to after.

Five Magical Disneyland Spots to Propose

What is more magical, than an actual magic kingdom? What is more memorable than the moment one proposes to their significant other? Now ask yourself, what happens when you combine those two questions? Yes, your mind might actually explode thinking about the possibilities, but the folks here at Bridal Hot List have some amazing suggestions for you. In this article we are going to combine the magic of Disneyland along with the amazing moment where one proposes to their true love. Read on to hear our top five magical Disneyland spots to propose!

Cinderella’s Castle

Cinderella’s Castle is the iconic castle seen in almost every picture, commercial, and piece of Disney material in the world. This gorgeous structure sits smack dab in the middle of the Disneyland theme park and is often crowded by tourists looking to get a perfect picture. What is great for park visitors is that Disney often has professional photographers ready and willing to take a photo of you using their camera and yours so that you can save that magical moment forever. Well, imagine if they just happened to capture the moment where you got on one knee and proposed? That would be as magical a moment as they come.

Chief Editor Niloufar Gibson is a huge Disneyland fan! Here she is taking a photo in front of Cinderella's Castle, an amazing spot to propose!

King Arthur Carousel

The carousel at Disneyland is directly behind Cinderella’s Castle and is another iconic piece of history. Did you know that it was featured in a telecast celebrating Disneyland’s opening back in 1955? Since then it has been refurbished and kept in pristine condition, while maintaining a nostalgic old-world feel. What a wonderful memory it would be for one person standing next to someone riding a horse while the carousel went around to pull out a ring and propose? It would be magical, and a moment to relive every single time you came back to Disneyland.

It’s A Small World – Holiday Season

Have you ever seen the Holiday Season of the ride “It’s a Small World” at Disneyland? It is amazing! Not only is this the cutest ride of all time, it also happens to be a great spot to propose, especially if you let the folks know ahead of time your big plans and get your own boat. You could even do it outside, while at night, to enjoy the amazing light show. It’s gorgeous, cute, and sure to make a lasting impression to stay with you forever.

Did you know about the Holiday Season for It's a Small World? It's gorgeous!

Outside New Orleans Square Next to Rivers of America at 9pm

Okay, we know that is a VERY specific place to be at a very specific time. What you will want to do is head over near where Pirates of the Caribbean is at in New Orleans Square and head over towards where you would go for Tom Sawyer’s Island. You will notice a LOT of people over there starting at 8pm, because Disneyland has an amazing fireworks show at 9pm EVERY NIGHT! Just imagine being at Disneyland, under the stars, listening to amazing music, with fireworks going over your heads and proposing? That would be a moment that all other couples would be jealous of!

Tomorrowland: A Star Wars Engagement

Okay, this one is reserved only for the geekiest couples out there, obviously! But just imagine two huge Star Wars fans hanging out with iconic characters such as Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Chewbacca, or even CP3O and R2-D2, and proposing in front of them and all the Star Wars fans? That dream can actually come true because actors dress up as characters from the Star Wars universe and visit people at Star Tours, or more likely, will appear for pictures and autographs at the Jedi Academy area, which is also where you can pick up a good slice of pizza.  Sure, this is not conventional by any means, but where else in the galaxy are you going to have Darth Vader appear in your engagement session photos?

For Star Wars geeks, being able to include Sith Lord Darth Vader at your engagement would be a story that nobody would forget!
