Venice Beach, California Engagement Session from Michelle Lacson Photography

If you have been following BHL for awhile now, you know that we love ourselves a pretty little engagement session. But when there are engagement sessions like this one that has us bursting with joy. It is all because of this sweet couple spending their e-session at the famous Venice Beach, California spot. Don’t get me wrong, I am pleasantly enjoying the lovely California winter days we are having. Cozy sweaters, boots, scarfs, and stylish jackets…my favorite things to wear for sure. Actually I love the cold weather wardrobe way better than the hot, summer wear.  But, I am totally missing the summer months, and it is all due to this gorgeous e-session featuring an adorable couple. How cute are they? Oh my goodness, so cute!  A darling couple beautifully captured by Michelle Lacson Photography. It is because of these images, that I want to push fast-forward and jump into summer.

This engagement session is guaranteed to knock your pretty little socks off. Go ahead, browse through the stunning images. I dare you!

How We Met – Kara+Brian from Expressionary Events on Vimeo.

From Michelle Lacson Photography

Meet Kara and Brian,  a couple who are the loveliest!  They chose the famous Venice Beach, California for their engagement session. They wanted to rent a bicycle built for two because thats what they did on their first date. How cute is that? I was totally on board to capture their bicycle ride. Super fun I have to say. Not only was this a unique idea for a session, but they were so sweet doing it. You can tell how much fun they were having. This couple is super sweet, and you can tell how in love they really are. Behind the lens, I would just smile in between each shot.  They made my job so easy by being such an easy going, fun loving pair. They are getting married this Summer, August 1, 2014.  Congrats to Kara and Brian!

R-Mine Bespoke 2014 Bridal Gown Collection

Let’s talk about drop-dead gorgeous bridal gowns for a second. Wait, even better,  let’s talk about chic and unique wedding gowns that have just made their 2014 debut at R-Mine BeSpoke’s bridal studio. I am beyond giddy over this collection. I do not even know how to do the proper introduction to such a stunning bridal collection. I am and have always been a total lover all things bridal, but what really has be tickled pink and swooning  this lovely Monday morning is R-Mine Bespoke 2014 Bridal Collection.

I had the pleasure of seeing the new 2014 collection in person at R-Mine Bespoke’s bridal salon in Studio City, California. Let me tell you, this salon itself is super stylish and gorgeous. Then add the bridal gowns to it, and it is a dreamy and jaw dropping gorgeous experience. All I wanted to do is stare at the gowns. I am kind of embarassed to admit this, but I kind of wanted to try on each and every gown there. These gowns are THAT gorgeous!  The chic wedding gown designer, Armine Ohanessian personally showed me these gowns, and I was blown away by the design, intricate details, and beautiful touches.  This collection deserves a standing ovation. If you are looking for a gown that is unique, fashionable, and super gorgeous, then R-Mine BeSpoke is a stop you must make.

Valentine’s Day Cookies and Milk

Happy Valentine’s Day!

When you think about V-Day, what comes to your mind? C-H-O-C-O-L-A-T-E! Chocolate gets the spotlight, front and center of every possible dessert creations. However, there are many other dessert-like dishes that can be created on this sweet day. Here is one of my favorites. Great for couples to share, for single friends to sip and enjoy together, and for families to slurp with children. It is super fun, easy, and cute!

COOKIES AND PINK MILK

This is what you will need:

  • 1 Gallon of milk (choose your favorite nonfat, 1% or 2% or whole)
  • Sugar cookie dough (buy your favorite brand. Just make sure that it has direction for making it into a rolled out cookie dough).
  • Red food coloring
  • Heart shaped cookie cutter
  • Round shaped cookie cutter (or anything other round shaped item that you can use to cut out cookies)
  • Milk bottles or shooter glasses or vintage looking glass
  • Vintage paper straws

Directions:

1)     Preheat oven by following the directions on cookie dough package

2)    Follow cookie dough directions for rolled dough.

3)    Roll out your dough and cut your cookies. I made round cookies and then cut the center with a heart shaped cookie cutter.

4)    Bake your cookies and once done set aside to cool.  PS: you can also bake all the heart shaped cut outs and freeze them. Use them to decorate cupcakes or any other dessert at a later time.

5)    Pour your milk in a pitcher.

6)    Add one drop of red food coloring.

7)    Mix. If too light of a pink, add one more drop.  Go slowly so that you can achieve your perfect hue.

8)    Pour the milk in the individual glasses.

9)    Place straw and place 2-3 cookies on the straw.

10)  Repeat for each glass.

A perfect treat for a day filled with love, no matter who is by your side.

Five Valentine’s Day Inspired Wedding Ideas

Are you and your fiancé true romantics at heart? Does the thought of a Valentine’s Day Wedding send your heart aflutter? February 14 is certainly a cherished day to celebrate love and romance, and what could be a better way to bring together family and friends in observance of your union! Here are five Valentine’s Day inspired wedding ideas to ensure that everyone will be seeing hearts by the end of the night!

Dress

Go classical and romantic with your dress—heart shaped necklines, lace, and flowing veils speak of romance and sweet femininity. Choosing red bridesmaid dresses and accents is an option for a Valentine’s Day wedding, but I prefer pale blush pink shades. It is, in my opinion, easier to incorporate into the overall design of your reception and ceremony because the hue is not as bold or overpowering.

Décor

Be sure to book your location in advance because Valentine’s Day weddings are proving to be more and more popular. If weather in your location permits, a wedding in a garden provides the perfect romantic backdrop. Before the ceremony begins, ask married couples to stand and reaffirm their love for each other. Incorporating other couples acknowledges the true meaning of Valentine’s Day, as well as thanks them for allowing you to be a part of their journey as a couple. At the reception, have your band or DJ play old classic love songs—think Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Bing Crosby. Order vintage Valentine’s Day cards online, and use them as seat markers for your guests. Decorate the tables as if you were preparing for a romantic meal at home—plenty of candles, flowers, and gauzy fabrics set the scene, and the mood, for romance.

Flowers

Roses are the hallmark of Valentine’s Day, but do not be afraid to incorporate a variety of pink and red flowers. You do not want your flower arrangements to look perfect and stodgy—instead, have your arrangements look like they were plucked out of a romantic garden, growing wild and untamed.

Michael Segal Photography www.michaelsegalphoto.com

Food

Food is the way to most people’s hearts, so have your food choices reflect the romanticism of the night. Oysters, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, chocolate fondue, asparagus—these aphrodisiac foods are delicious and in the theme of Valentine’s Day. Most importantly, allow the cake to be the main star!

Favors

Remember those cute Valentine’s Day cards you had to pass out in elementary school along with the heart-shaped candies? Customize boxes of the candies with you and your partner’s name, and include a Valentine’s Day card that says, “Thank you for being our Valentine.”

From Perfectly Made Weddings

Idea and inspiration behind the shoot:

The idea and inspiration came from the designer’s love for romantic, rustic and vintage details. Since Valentine’ Day was coming up, we wanted to create a  romantic picnic style setting for a couple celebrating their love with each other. Simple, but full of love.  Valentine’s Day seems to always be about going out to a fancy restaurant and sharing a nice dinner with a whole lot of other couples. Often, couples find going out is crowded and not as private and romantic. So instead,  the idea was that we wanted to create a very intimate setting with a lovely picnic, surrounded by nature’s pretty details. This was to bring about a feeling of romance, while celebrating their love with just the two of them there. The setting? Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park. It was the perfect location to set up a picnic.  We wanted to make the couple feel like they were the only ones in the middle of a gorgeous outdoor setting.  The concept of the picnic was simple.  We really did not want to over decorate and take away from the couple’s love for each other. We added a few items to compliment the couple’s true love. Simple does not allow for any interruptions or frills, just a romantic day with the one you love.

Color palette:

The main color palette for the shoot consists of neutral colors, soft blushes and ivories, and pairing them with gold.

Fashion: We wanted to stay with a Valentine’s Day theme while keeping it simple with soft fabrics and romantic details.

Five Fun Valentine’s Day Gifts for Grooms

It’s almost Valentine’s Day! Are you ready? Even if you’re not, there’s no reason to worry. Save the stress for the ceremony and check out our gift guide for your groom.

For the Chef

If you landed a man who’s great in the kitchen, you might as well get him the right tools for the job. A good knife block is a great addition to any kitchen, and will encourage him to cook more! Knife blocks can range anywhere from $40 and up, depending on the quality and how big the set is. Just remember, a knife set is a great investment and you do get what you pay for.

For the Man of Mystery

Boys do love their toys, and spy toys are a sure-fire hit. A spy pen camera or spy watch is something fun for him to play with and are typically under $50. Typically the cameras in spy gear aren’t very high quality, so he really can’t get into too much trouble. It may not be as practical as a knife block, but it sure will be fun.

For the Gamer

Are his thumbs always sore from all the video games? Trick out his device in a cool way. Get a cool skin for his handheld device so it’s easier for him to find in the man cave. We’re obsessed with these fun skins from Etsy ($6-$10 each skin). You can also spring for  another year of either his PlayStation or XBox online membership, or load his Nintendo account with some funds for downloadable play.

For the Pop Cultured

Does he speak in movie quotes and wish he were the long lost Bluth brother? Find some fun fan art from his favorite television show or movie. Just search the title in Etsy and you’ll find tons of cool fan tributes that would be perfect and original for him. If he’s a Potterhead, we love this fun flask (Etsy, $20).

For the Architect

If your groom likes to tinker and create fun things, give him a blast from the past with a cool lego set. It’s a great fun activity that you can help out with, plus it’ll look great as a centerpiece. We’re obsessed with the limited edition ‘Back to the Future’ set ($35, lego stores) that builds a floating Delorean.
