Five Trending Bridal Shower Looks for Summer

Hey gorgeous gals! Summer has officially kicked off, so it’s time to ditch the leggings and enjoy the sunshine in style. Summer bridal showers are a perfect platform to flaunt fun summer style, and this is your guide for what’s trending right now.

Look #1: Flowy and Free

The layered maxi skirt has been on the rise lately, and so has this gorgeous mermaid turquoise shade. To work this trend, I suggest pairing with a button up sleeveless blouse. A white top with an embellished collar dresses up a basic, making it a versatile piece in your wardrobe. Plus it is completely functional and comfy in the summer time! Pair it all with a detailed bun and flattering studs to create a look that is polished and still very trendy. If you’re heading to a bridal shower at a restaurant or even somewhere a little more adventurous, this look will be perfect.

Look #2: Down to Earth

For a look that is trendy with an earthy flair, keep an eye out for pretty braided accessories and lacy layered dresses. A simple belt at the high waistline is quite flattering around a tummy. Pair with a tailored blazer in a hot summer color, like orange. Just make sure to balance it out with nude heels so the color doesn’t clash with anything else.  If your bridal shower is at a home or is a family based event, this warm look is perfect.

Look #3: Classic Romantic

That Tiffany’s blue is always going to be perfect for any event bridal-related, hands down. This look particularly is polished and appropriate for any bridal shower. The modest neck line and the boxy cut of the dress hugs curves in the right places without being too tight or inappropriate. Pair with similarly toned creamy heels and a delicate hairpiece for a look that says ‘classic romance’ meets cute and trendy. To give the look a little more personal flair, pair it with a hot clutch. Knuckle rings have been popping up lately, and this clutch is a very flirty way to work that trend.

Look #4: Bohemian Beauty

This beautiful deep periwinkle tone is showing up everywhere and will be one of the hottest shades this season. The flattering shade will pull a summer glow out of any skin tone, creating an instant sun-kissed look. I’ve been loving this shade paired with warm browns to balance out the powerful periwinkle. For more casual bridal showers, a brown gladiator flat is both trendy and functional. For hair, I would suggest leaving your hair in loose waves either half up, or with a braided detail. This look is all about something beautiful with details that make it all the more personal.

Look #5: Retro Romantics

If you’re heading to a bridal shower that may be a bit more formal (at a country club, etc.), a look along these lines may be perfect for you. The peplum skirt is a trend that has been really taking off this season, and its’shape is both trendy and demure. I love this creamy pink, particularly paired with a lacy peeptoe heel. This look is all very feminine and romantic, but is updated with vintage accessories. The cat eye sunglasses fit seamlessly with the outfit while updating it to have a unique retro-inspired look. Vintage pieces and retro styles have been going strong, and because they are a proven classic any pieces will be instant staples of your wardrobe all year long.

Weddings at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

Today we decided to slip off mainland USA and travel to the quintessential destination wedding location our side of the Pacific: the Hawaiian Islands.  A true tropical paradise, Hawaii is a tantalizing place to say, “I do.” Situated amongst the beautiful beaches and celestial waters of Maui, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua provides the perfect romantic setting for your dream destination wedding.  The resort offers five truly breathtaking ceremony venues plus three additional reception venues.  There really is something for every couple at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua.

Just one of the many perks of having your wedding at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua is the existence of a Wedding Concierge specifically designed to make your special day memorable and as stress-free as possible.  The wedding concierge is available for every event of your wedding to take care of the details you may not have the time or ability to see to yourself.  “Many of our brides tell us that they are more relaxed than they expected with the wedding concierge doing all of the rushing around for them.”  said Mark A. Malone, CMM, CMP, Director of Meetings and Special Events.  Any special requests or additions you’d like to make to your special day, the wedding concierge is there by your side.  The hotel also offers an array of wedding packages suitable for all types of ceremonies.  More information on specific wedding packages can be found on the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua website.

The ceremony venues at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua are all truly spectacular. With one indoor and four outdoor locations,  there is something to satisfy every bride.  If you desire an indoor ceremony, the Ritz offers the Honolua Chapel.  Once the local church for the community, this plantation style church is perfect for a small ceremony of up to 60 people.  Moving to the outdoor venues, The Gazebo is a sweet, romantic option where the bride, groom and up to 100 guests can celebrate surrounded by palm trees swaying in the gentle island breeze.

If you imagine a large, fantastic wedding with up to 500 guests, the Beach house Lawn is ideal for you with its scenic ocean views great for hosting a  traditional Hawaiian Luau.

The final venue, Lava Point is perfect for the most intimate of couples.  Situated on a cliff top overlooking the crashing waves on the rocks below, Lava Point is designed for intimate and romantic ceremonies of 2 to 4 people.  Say “I do” as the sun is setting over the ocean and share the most intimate of moments with the one you love.

A once in a lifetime celebration on an island paradise is what couples can expect at the Ritz Kapalua.  Embrace the warm Hawaiian culture and add the flare of the island your wedding.  No matter the venue you chose, your wedding will be an event to remember at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua.

TLC’s Four Weddings Episode Recap: June 20th

Friday is here! Fridays are the best right? I mean, I love them. Not only does it mean I get to start my weekend, but I get to provide you a recap of one of my favorite wedding shows on TLC. Yep, its a good day for sure! Did you tune into last night’s episode of  “Four Weddings” on TLC?  What are your thoughts of the four brides and their weddings? What details stood out for you? Was there one bride which had a total “wow” wedding day? If you missed it, we have a recap of the episode right here:

Who are the Brides?: TLC

  • Christian is ready to walk down the aisle at a grand cathedral where her ceremony takes place. Inside the cathedral there are high ceiling, stunning details, and a large aisle. The ceremony had little decor, however the bridesmaids wore lavender colored short dresses, each holding a small bouquet.  After a traditional ceremony, the bride and her groom together with their guests light up paper lanterns and release them into the sky. Following, guests go to a night club where the reception takes place. Inside there are many candles, stunning chandeliers, and white flowers. The cake is a three tier white cake with a masquerade mask with feathers as the cake topper  Guests join the bride on the dance-floor as her groom throws dollar bills from above into the crowd. Guests enjoy this unique money dance.TLC
  • Ashley a bride who has planned her wedding since she was a young teenager and is now ready to marry the love of her life.  The day begins outside on the green lawn of the plantation venue.  The alter is rustic with a chandelier hanging in the middle.  Ashley makes her grand entrance for the ceremony on a white horse and carriage. A very Fairytale entrance. After a heartfelt ceremony, the married couple release white doves, and then exit in the horse drawn carriage.  Inside the plantation venue, the reception begins. The space features blue up-lighting, vintage style decor, and tall floral centerpieces. A shout out for the guest bride, Christian for her birthday, and everyone was on the dance-floor having a good time.TLC
  • Courtney  has a love for nature and elegance. Her wedding takes place at a local zoo. First, the ceremony takes place at a church. The decoration consisted of pink and white flowers on the pews, and four grand floral arrangements at the front. After sealing the ceremony with a kiss, guests travel to the zoo for the reception. As guests enter, they are greeted by some of the animals such as an elephant, peacock, and flamingos. Inside the reception space, it is decorated with pink, white, and gold colors. The guest tables have a soft pink linen, gold chargers with pink napkins, gold candleholders, and a few small floral arrangements. The cake was a five tier white and gold cake with some intricate details. After a buffet dinner, the dessert table is set with array of desserts to choose from. At the end of the night there is a second line, and Courtney changes into a short white dress with silver beading on the top.TLC
  • Joy is ready to have a good time at her wedding.  Her wedding day is at a hotel and the ceremony inside. The ceremony space is all white with candles lining the aisle. After a jump over the broom, the couple is ready to party with their guests. The reception space features blue up-lighting, trees with hanging candles and peacock feathers.  After dinner, guests enjoy liquor filled cupcakes. The dance floor was high energy and everyone was packed on the dance floor. A second line joined in and the party continued.

A Hot Detail:  There was one detail from each wedding that stood out for me. I really loved Christian’s wedding gown. It was a lace with beading all throughout. This dress was made for her, and she looked gorgeous!  Okay, so this is a first, but I also loved Ashley’s wedding gown as well! Yep. What I absolutely loved about her gown was EVERYTHING! Her dress was a fitted satin mermaid trumpet style with feathers on the top. Totally stunning and simply beautiful. Perfect gown for this bride.    I actually loved the overall style and design at Courtney’s wedding. I loved the romantic feel of it all. All the details were simply gorgeous and elegant.   was a fitted A-line lace dress with a beautiful veil. It was perfect for her vintage style wedding.   What I thought was a “wow” factor at Joy’s wedding reception was the ice luge. The large ice luge had the signature drink flow right down into the guest’s glass. I thought this was super unique and fun for guests. A fun way to get your drink!

Who won?: Congrats to Courtney for winning!  She and her husband won an all expenses paid honeymoon to St. Martin.  I was not surprised at all about Courtney winning.  As soon as I saw her wedding, and all the gorgeous details, I knew she would win.  While I can not account for the food since I wasn’t actually there, all the other details – venue,  bride’s dress, and originality – were owned by Courtney’s wedding. I loved how it was so romantic and every single detail from the ceremony to the desserts, was absolutely lovely.  Those flowers and the gold and pinks, Swoon!  Every cent spent was worth it! Fantastic job Courtney!   So how did the other three brides score? Ashley came in second, Joy in third, and Christian in fourth. Were you surprised by the results?  Love to hear from you, so please share!

Top Ten First Dance Songs

Good morning Sunday lovelies! Enjoying the weekend? Sad to see it end? We are too. But, do not worry, we have something to brighten your day and end the weekend with a bang! You know we are always trying to find the hottest trends in all things wedding right? Including what is hot and trending in music at weddings. Yep, we love to find out what couples are requesting  for their song list for their big day.  However, your first dance is a really special moment and choosing the perfect song is really important. It is the first dance as husband and wife. So, we wanted to find out what the top ten “First Dance” songs are that couples are requesting.

So, we asked Mike  S. Yanez, Owner of SELECT SOUND SERVICES, to share what the top ten “First Dance” songs are.

SELECT SOUND SERVICES caters to each and every one of our clients. Whether its a fundraiser, special event, or production, we create the sound that YOU specify. Especially when it comes to weddings. If you’ve been to as many weddings as I have, you start to hear some of the same songs. For good reason, these songs are great and they are classics. However, our clients have given us some gems that we found to be just as great as the classics, but maybe over looked. We thought it might be fun to compile a Top 10 List of First Dance songs that our past clients have chosen for their wedding.

1.  “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin
A classic rock song that sums it all up. I mean its written poetry over acoustic guitar, Robert Plant singing, dramatic runs throughout the ballad, it even has organs. You can’t get more wedding song than organs!

2.  “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder
You had me at Stevie, right?! A bit more traditional, touch of soul, but totally powerful and can bring a tear to everyone in the room.

3.  “So High” by John Legend
A contemporary R&B song that totally describes a new love, flying high, into their own world. “And when morning comes, we’ll see the sun is not so far, and we can’t get much closer to GOD than where we are.” Nice!

4.  “These Arms of Mine” by Otis Redding
There isn’t much that is more romantic than a man, confessing just how sick in love he is, at the top of his lungs. A classic soul record, that all ages usually get into.

5. “Adorn” by  Miguel
A contemporary R&B song, a bit up tempo, laced with a nice baseline and Prince-like high notes that make the hair on your neck stand up, in a good way.

6.  “How Sweet It Is (to be loved by you)” by James Taylor
A fun, up tempo blues track from Sweet Baby James himself. It was hard to keep everyone from joining the couple for their First Dance.

7.  “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker
Great Blues kind of song! The dramatic piano, his signature voice, the passion is so present in this song. Makes everyone emotional when pumped through a set of good speakers.

8.  “Let’s Fall in Love” by Rod Stewart ft. George Benson
A beautiful jazz record that brightens up the room. Dramatic strings, George Benson on the guitar, and Rod Stewart sounding very lounge without the cheese.

9. ” Some Enchanted Evening” by Frank Sinatra
A classic musical number from Old Blue Eyes. A story of meeting that one person, and “Never letting gooooooooo” Frank brings it home with the horns, strings, and the kitchen sink. A more traditional sound, with some power ballad mixed in.

10. “There You’ll Be” by Faith Hill &  ” My Best Friend” by Tim Mc Graw
So we totally cheated on this one. 2 country classics by the most loved couple in country music. Technically, you could say the two are one. The titles say it all.

We hope you enjoyed the Top 10 List of First Dance songs chosen by past SELECT SOUND SERVICES clients. We are here to serve, and would love the opportunity to work with you on your next event. Visit us at www.SELECTSOUNDSERVICES.com

TLC’s Four Weddings Episode Recap: March 29th

Did you tune into last night’s episode of “Four Weddings” on TLC?  What are your thoughts of the four brides and their weddings? What details stood out for you? If you missed it, we have a recap of the episode:

Who are the Brides?:

  • Rachele, a bride who wants to bring fun, energy, and music to her wedding. Her traditional wedding ceremony takes place in a beautiful inside space at the venue. Inside there is a white draped alter, candles, and a red aisle runner. The bridesmaids wore a bright red orange colored long dresses which complimented the decor. After the ceremony which was officiated by the groom’s sister, guests head upstairs to cocktail hour. The space was decorated elegantly with gold colored draping on the ceilings, stunning chandeliers, bright linens, and a simple centerpieces with white flowers.  The bride and groom’s grand entrance is to taiko drummers music. Right before the garter toss, the groom performs a dance for his bride. After dinner, guests are on the dance floor and enjoy some line dancing and fun.
  • Nicolle’s, a bride who has team spirit and wants to share that energy with all her guests at her wedding. The day begins at a synagogue where she has her traditional Jewish ceremony. However, before guests find their seats are the ceremony, cocktail hour takes place. Inside the ceremony space, it is decorated with simple decor. There is a white draped chuppah with colorful flowers at each pillar. The colorfulness is shown also with the bridesmaid’s dresses. Each bridesmaid chose their own color and style of dress to walk down the aisle in. After breaking of the glass, the couple is now married, and guests enter the reception room. The grand space is surrounded by blue up-lighting, long white draping, ice sculptures, and long vases with colorful flowers on the guest tables. Since the couple are huge University of Miami fans, the school mascot showed up and school spirit was shared with all.
  • Travia is a bride who is says ” I do”, as she turns 30.  The wedding takes place at a Country Club. The ceremony is set outside overlooking the golf course. The decor was very simple and featured a white archway, white columns with candles down the aisle, and white flowers. The bridesmaids dresses are black and long. The father of the bride wears white as he walks his daughter down the aisle.  After cocktail hour, guests enter the ballroom for the reception. The reception has a black and white color theme. The tables had two standing sparkle decorated candles. After dinner, guests can stop off at the station which served red velvet fried oreos and funnel cake. In addition to celebrating her first day of marriage, Travia changes into a black elegant dress to celebrate her 30th birthday. The bride and groom along with their guests dance the night away on the dance floor.
  • Alex, a  bride who goes retro at her wedding with some DIY details. Her wedding takes place at a lakeside library. Before guests enter the venue, there is a old style typewriter where they can type a note and drop it in a keepsake box. The ceremony is set outside overlooking the water, and is decorated with some unique details. The aisle is decorated with white lanterns stacked on two books, and instead of an alter, there are two tall stacks of books. The bride’s bouquet was made up of paper from books styled like flowers. After a heartfelt ceremony, the cocktail hour takes place inside the venue. The colors of white, purple and turquoise decorated the outside reception space. Each guest table had white lanterns, votive candles as the centerpieces. The father of the bride along with all the guests, really got there dance on.

A Hot Detail:  There was one detail from each wedding that stood out for me. What I thought was so super unique and fun at Rachele’s wedding was the surprise performance of playing with the taiko drummers. I thought that was something totally different and very entertaining for the guests. I think it is also a great way to create a memory for their wedding day. So fun! What I absolutely loved at Nicolle’s wedding was her school spirit shining all day. I loved her high energy she had at her wedding. She seemed to really have a great time, and very happy. That is really awesome because every bride should feel like this on their wedding day. Super fun!  I really loved Travia’s bridal bouquet. It was made up of brooches, bling, and  sparkle. All personally made by the bride. I thought it was gorgoues and very personal. So stunning!  I really liked the idea of Alex’s food choices. They served fifty’s style diner food: sliders, fries, hot dogs, mac and cheese, and steak. Even though I could not taste the food, I loved the concept!

5Who won?: Congrats to Travia for winning!  She and her husband won an all expenses paid honeymoon to Figi.  I was not surprised about Travia winning at all, she seemed to deserve it! While I can not account for the food since I wasn’t actually there, all the other details – venue,  bride’s dress, and originality – were owned by Travia’s wedding. I thought that every detail of her bling birthday wedding bash came together really well. It was not over the top, yet had enough sparkle.  Guests seem to enjoy it and have a good time. Great job Travia! So how did the other three brides score? Alex came in second, Rachele in third, and Nicolle in fourth. Were you surprised by the results?  Love to hear from you, so please share!

Recap of TLC’s Special Episode of “Four Weddings”: Grooms Take Over

Did you watch last night’s special episode of “Four Weddings: Grooms Take Over” on TLC?  What did you think about the groom’s view of the weddings? Was it interesting to see what they thought about all the details? If you missed the episode,  here is a recap:

Who are the Grooms?:

Grooms showing their ring boxes w/ rings Rick, David, Ryan and John.

Grooms showing their ring boxes w/ rings Rick, David, Ryan and John.

  • Ryan is a groom who planned most of the wedding and added touches of butterflies for his bride. The day begins at a beautiful botanical garden outside. Surrounded by greenery and flowers, personal vows were shared at their ceremony. At the end of their ceremony, the groom surprises his bride with a gift. The gift was a box of butterflies, and when opened, they flew out. Cocktail hour was limited to two cheese dishes.  Inside the reception space, there were personal touches throughout. From the jars with little Lego figurines, butterflies, to the first dance. The first dance was a choreographed number by Ryan. The bride changed into a silver sparkle dress to dance with her husband. Even though it was still daytime, guests were on the dance floor.
  • Rick who together with his bride like some bling at their wedding. Their traditional ceremony takes place in a church, featured baby blue bridesmaids dresses, and groomsmen wearing sneakers. Prior to the reception, with four hours to go, the guest grooms enjoy some golf time. The reception was in a country club, and inside the room, were simple decorations. The centerpieces were tall vases with light purple and white flowers. After a heart felt first dance, guests are served dinner. The dance floor is full, as guests dance the night away.
  • John loves to dance and have a good time. His day begins in a church where a Catholic ceremony took place. Ryan’s son stood by him as his best man. The decor was white bows on the pews, and large flower arrangements in the front. The cocktail hour had a variety of food stations. Inside the grand ballroom, it featured stunning chandeliers, a large dance floor, and glass vases with floating candles and  orange colored flowers.  The cake was a four tiered cake with orange flowers cascading down the front. Guests took home a small bottle of wine as a wedding favor. The dancing was for sure happening and Ryan partied on with his wife.
  • David is a chef and created the entire menu for his wedding day. Before any eating, the ceremony took place inside a tall gazebo style room with windows around. The ceremony featured two tree like decor with hanging candles, and colors of purple and green. The beautiful ballroom had hanging chandeliers, purple up lighting, and colors of gold and purple. The centerpiece was a green moss base with branches which had purple flowers and hanging candles. The cake was a purple, and white colored  six tiered cake with a large purple egg as a cake topper. The customized menu was a choice of steak or salmon.

Cool factor:  There was one detail from each wedding that stood out for me. At Ryan’s wedding I loved the escort cards. But they were not your typical escort cards, They were Lego stands, and a Lego person resembling the person’s character made of Lego. For example, if someone was a police officer  for a profession, their Lego person was a police officer made of Legos. It was the most unique escort card idea I have ever seen.  Super cool and personal. Rick’s cake was absolutely gorgeous. It was a four tiered white cake with a touch of bling. I liked that the bling did not over take the cake. The cake was very elegant and perfect for a wedding.  What I thought was super sweet was that John and his son wore matching tuxedos. I thought this was a great way to involve his son, and make him feel special on such an important day. What I loved at David’s wedding was that they incorporated their dog in the wedding ceremony. I think that dogs are part of the family, and why not include them in your wedding day. I thought it was really cute!

Which groom won? Congrats to Rick for winning!  He won an all expenses paid honeymoon to the Caribbean island of Grenada.  I was not surprised about Rick winning at all, he seemed to deserve it! While I can not account for the food since I wasn’t actually there, all the other details – venue,  bride’s dress, and originality – were owned by Rick’s wedding. I thought that every detail of his simple and bling wedding came together really well. It was not over the top, yet had enough sparkle. It  looked like a joyful, fun, and elegant wedding to be at, and I’m sure viewers (like me) could tell how in love the couple was. Great job Rick!   So how did the other three brides score? David came in second, John in third, and Ryan in fourth place. Were you surprised by the results? What did you think about the groom’s scoring? Do you think if the bride’s judged, the outcome would have been the same?

Please share your thoughts, we want to hear from you!

From the bride…

March 23rd, 2012 was the day I married my soul companion.  March 23rd, 2012 was the day we bound our souls to one another, to soar through our lives together, palms embraced, hearts entwined, eyes as one unto the same vision.  Sitting next to one another on that morning, with toast in our mouths and smiles on our lips, we were calmer than we had been and waited with bated breath for the day to unfurl itself into the manifestation of our conjoined love.  We couldn’t have been happier as we embraced the intimacy of the day.  We carefully selected those that were dear to us to share in the sacredness of the day in a ceremony of just short of 65 people.  The venue spoke to me when Bobby took me there on a date 6 months earlier, from the hanging bee baskets laced with fairy lights to the majestic nature of the grounds. We moved away from “tradition” and felt incredibly honoured that our sister-in-law, Lindsay, made a series of organic vegan gluten-free cheesecakes for us and our guests which was nothing short of utterly divine, a slice of heaven on such a special day!  We felt blessed that she and our brother Kia put so much hard effort into baking, which kept them up until the wee hours of the wedding day, putting on the finishing touches.  Hand-making all the details, from the carefully drawn and sewn wedding invites to the specially selected blend of tea we encased in bird love burlap for each of our guests, we put nothing short of complete love into a day that will remain in our hearts forever.  It made both Bobby and I proud to stand before our parents and show them that we were ready to walk this next journey of life together, united and secure in our belief in one another .
