Top Seven Tips on Getting Wedding Ready

On this lovely Saturday morning, we  are thinking about all those brides who are getting ready for their big day. Some of them are in the process right now: getting their hair and make-up done, sharing some laughs with their gals, and maybe looking over her vows. It is a wonderful time in a bride’s life. That is for sure! Getting wedding ready is not just for the day of, there are some things a bride can do to get prepped. Here are seven beauty tips on getting wedding ready:

  1. If you notice that your nail polish is becoming thick in the bottle or sticky, just add some acetone, or nail polish remover, into the bottle. After only adding a tiny bit, seal up the top and shake thoroughly. By doing this, you will have enough nail polish for a few more applications.
  2. Air dry your hair often so it doesn’t suffer from heat damage. You hair can be seriously damaged by too much heat from your hair dryer, a curling iron or straightening iron. Put your hairdryer on the lowest setting to avoid damage to your hair. By doing this, your hair will stay soft for years to come.
  3. If you blow dry your hair you should use a “hot spray” before you start. You can find this in generic stores like Wal-Mart or Target. It’s used to prevent split ends and help your hair dry quicker. It also keeps your hair from drying out, and is often scented!
  4. Make your skin look more vibrant by using a moisturizer with a warm gold or pink undertone. This glowing tone can be achieved with a subtle application that emphasizes the cheeks and brow. Do not apply it anywhere else on your face. Using too much will give you a fake, shiny appearance.
  5. You have to consume eight glasses of water every day for your skin to look great. When you skin is dehydrated, the stress will make it look wrinkled, dry and dull. Reduce the chances of this happening by drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water per day. Use lemon or cranberry juice to flavor your water if you dislike plain water. Your skin is going to be grateful you drank lots of water.
  6. Be sure to exercise moderately every day. Daily exercise will help your body to stay looking young, fit, and healthy. It is definitely essential for personal beauty. You should be up and active for at least fifteen minutes a day. You can work physical activity into daily routines like walking or even vacuuming.
  7. To fix a damaged fingernail, get a teabag and cut a small piece from it. Empty all of the leaves from the bag. Then, cut a small patch from the teabag making sure your patch will cover the tear. Then you should put the piece of teabag on the torn nail and put some clear top coat on it.

Which tip was the most helpful for you? Please share with us, as we love to hear from you!

Seven Groom-Friendly Grooming Rituals

Brides and bridesmaids have a lot of help and support in getting glammed up for the big day. Particularly, we’ve got you covered whether it be nail polish, hair, lip looks, or even simple ways to stay cool in the heat. Here at Bridal Hot List, we love what’s trending in the beauty, fashion, and style aspect of weddings, but we’re also here to help. That means you, grooms and groomsmen! A wedding isn’t a time for just the bride to look her best; grooms and groomsmen should also be looking especially handsome. Beauty routines may be intimidating for some men, but we’ve got quite a few groom-friendly grooming rituals that are sure to leave all men looking handsome.

Nasal Strips

Nasal strips are one of the easiest, most low-maintenance things that a man can do to look great and feel fresh. Most work in the same way- wet your nose, stick them on there, and leave them alone for a few minutes. Once they come off, you’ll be ripping off all those unsightly blackheads and your guy’s nose will feel especially clean. This doesn’t feel super girly and leaves a groom feeling fresh. My favorite man-approved nasal strip is the Deep Cleaning Pore Strips by Biore ($6-$7, drugstores).

Deep Conditioning

Many guys tend to either neglect their hair or abuse it. Either way, a good deep condition can help them realize what their hair potential could be. Going to a salon may be too intimidating (or expensive) for some, but doing an at home deep condition is an easy, private affair. I like the Aussie Three Minute Miracle deep conditioning treatment ($3-$4, drugstores). Have your guy shampoo his hair first, then apply this liberally while the hair is still wet. It says three minutes, but I would leave it on for longer (20-30 minutes, if you can!). Wash it out afterwards and his strands will be silky soft to the touch. Just be prepared for a major boost of confidence, and the constant request to touch his hair.

Face Masques

If your guy liked the nasal strip, the next step you can take is a face masque. This may feel particularly girly, but the payoff is excellent. I’ve found that the Queen Helene peel off masque ($3.50, drugstores) is pretty guy-friendly, particularly because there’s a scene in American Psycho where Christian Bale’s character uses one. It goes on a little thick, but then hardens to a plastic-like consistency that is fun to pull off. The masque will leave the skin tight and and soft to the touch, and they are fun to do.

Teeth Whitening

This may not be a fun one to do, but it is necessary. I like the Crest 3D White Strips ($35-$40, drugstores) because they’re easy and very convenient. I started noticing a difference after about a week, and white teeth are a major essential to a good looking groom.

Undereye Treatments

Eye treatments are great to start if you have a few weeks to go before the wedding. The results don’t show up overnight, so you have to remind him to be patient. I like the Garnier Nutritioniste Eye Roller ($10, drugstores) because it goes on very easy and is gentle but still effective. Start having him work it into his nightly routine by keeping it next to his toothbrush. It feels very fresh going on and is a great low maintenance way to combat dark undereye circles.

Lip Conditioning

Lip balm is something that I’ve noticed more male interest in over the last few years. Jack Black makes an exceptional lip balm ($7.50, specialty beauty stores) targeted at men that provides excellent hydration. They come in several flavors and even have some SPF worked in. Some men may be resistant to lip balm, but reminding a groom or groomsmen how important soft, kissable lips are may sway them. Slathering on the lip balm before bed is a guaranteed way to wake up with soft, luscious lips.

Manly Mani/Pedi

When it gets down to the last days before the wedding, you may want to seriously consider a mani/pedi. Yes, this has the potential to be the most intimidating for men, but with high risk comes high reward. Good looking, well manicured hands are particularly important for the groom. There could very well be a lot of pictures of his hands and rings, so you want to make sure they look their best. A lot of men associate manicures with nail polish, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Many men get manis and pedis with no polish, but just to have their nails groomed professionally. For the man that is a little more weary on the subject, offer to go to a salon a little out of your neighborhood. A small chance of being seen may sway him. If your guy is still a little shy, remind him that there is a foot rub involved with the pedi. A nice spa chair and a good foot rub is usually an easier sell for men.

Five Sun Safe Must Haves for Summer Weddings

We’re knee deep in the summer season and that means we’re knee deep in the heat. Outdoor weddings are fun, but now with the weather so hot here are a few products you may want to consider picking up.

Load Up on Sunscreen

Being outside should always warrant sunscreen, but be sure you’re packing it on for weddings. It’s something that’s easy to forget in the rush of things, but is incredibly important. A wedding is a day you want to remember, and you don’t want to remember it as the day you got a horrible sunburn! Pick something non-scented and not greasy, so it doesn’t affect your outfit or perfume. If you know you’ll be dancing, pick up a sport sunscreen like this one from Coppertone ($7-$9, drugstores). It covers both UVA and UVB rays and is water and sweat resistant.

SPF Everywhere

Remember that SPF counts everywhere! Having a sunburn on your lips is a nightmare. The Maybelline Baby Lips ($4-$6, drugstores) line are all SPF 20, and offer a light tint on your lips. They stay moisturized and help block out any sun damage. I also love the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm ($7.50, beauty specialty stores). It’s an incredibly moisturizing line and makes lips feel pillowy soft. The SPF 25 doesn’t hurt, either!

Seriously, Everywhere

I like to use a leave-in conditioner in my hair to keep it from drying out, particularly when the air is more dry. Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture Leave-In Cream ($8-$10, drugstores) has a UV Shield, which helps protect your hair from sun damage. Your hair won’t get a sunburn, but it may get damaged or dry out in the heat. Dab a little in your hair and work it out to the ends before you style.

A Flawless, Sun Safe Face

Laura Mercier is known for their tinted moisturizers ($42, beauty specialty stores) year round, but the SPF 20 really helps out in the summer. The tinted moisturizers offer fantastic hydration as well as light coverage. Plus they offer a wide range of shades to accommodate all complexions.

Full Coverage and Sun Safe

If you’re looking for a foundation with more coverage, the MAC Matchmaster Foundation ($33, MAC counters) is for you. It offers SPF 15 and a wide range of shades. I find that it goes on moe matte to absorb any oiliness you may encounter. It goes on light but covers blemishes and redness very well.

In addition to wearing more products with SPF, just remember…

Ditch The Soda

Yes, soda is bad for you, but carbonation in general can throw off your fashion game plan completely. Skip any bubbly sodas the day before and the day of to avoid any unwanted bloat. If you need something sweet, stick to juice or a flavored water. Being bloated and in the heat is no fun at all. Plus, you’ll absolutely avoid any accidental burping.

Opt for Water

Going hand in hand with ditching soda, stick to water until the reception. It keeps your teeth from getting stained, it’ll keep you hydrated all day long, and if it does happen to spill, it’s not a major crisis. Yes, it’s fine to have a glass of wine (or two) but be sure to pair your glass with some water to avoid becoming sloppy. You don’t ever want to be that girl.

Five Trending Bridal Shower Looks for Summer

Hey gorgeous gals! Summer has officially kicked off, so it’s time to ditch the leggings and enjoy the sunshine in style. Summer bridal showers are a perfect platform to flaunt fun summer style, and this is your guide for what’s trending right now.

Look #1: Flowy and Free

The layered maxi skirt has been on the rise lately, and so has this gorgeous mermaid turquoise shade. To work this trend, I suggest pairing with a button up sleeveless blouse. A white top with an embellished collar dresses up a basic, making it a versatile piece in your wardrobe. Plus it is completely functional and comfy in the summer time! Pair it all with a detailed bun and flattering studs to create a look that is polished and still very trendy. If you’re heading to a bridal shower at a restaurant or even somewhere a little more adventurous, this look will be perfect.

Look #2: Down to Earth

For a look that is trendy with an earthy flair, keep an eye out for pretty braided accessories and lacy layered dresses. A simple belt at the high waistline is quite flattering around a tummy. Pair with a tailored blazer in a hot summer color, like orange. Just make sure to balance it out with nude heels so the color doesn’t clash with anything else.  If your bridal shower is at a home or is a family based event, this warm look is perfect.

Look #3: Classic Romantic

That Tiffany’s blue is always going to be perfect for any event bridal-related, hands down. This look particularly is polished and appropriate for any bridal shower. The modest neck line and the boxy cut of the dress hugs curves in the right places without being too tight or inappropriate. Pair with similarly toned creamy heels and a delicate hairpiece for a look that says ‘classic romance’ meets cute and trendy. To give the look a little more personal flair, pair it with a hot clutch. Knuckle rings have been popping up lately, and this clutch is a very flirty way to work that trend.

Look #4: Bohemian Beauty

This beautiful deep periwinkle tone is showing up everywhere and will be one of the hottest shades this season. The flattering shade will pull a summer glow out of any skin tone, creating an instant sun-kissed look. I’ve been loving this shade paired with warm browns to balance out the powerful periwinkle. For more casual bridal showers, a brown gladiator flat is both trendy and functional. For hair, I would suggest leaving your hair in loose waves either half up, or with a braided detail. This look is all about something beautiful with details that make it all the more personal.

Look #5: Retro Romantics

If you’re heading to a bridal shower that may be a bit more formal (at a country club, etc.), a look along these lines may be perfect for you. The peplum skirt is a trend that has been really taking off this season, and its’shape is both trendy and demure. I love this creamy pink, particularly paired with a lacy peeptoe heel. This look is all very feminine and romantic, but is updated with vintage accessories. The cat eye sunglasses fit seamlessly with the outfit while updating it to have a unique retro-inspired look. Vintage pieces and retro styles have been going strong, and because they are a proven classic any pieces will be instant staples of your wardrobe all year long.

Flower Crowns from Always Ari

Summer is almost here, and all I see are poolside days, beachfront eating, and lovely days enjoyed outside. I love summer, but what I love even more, are summer weddings. As you know by now, I am obsessed with all things wedding, and when you throw it in the summer months, my heart is happy.  Summers in Southern California are just perfect. The weather is breathtaking, sunshine is shining oh so brightly, and the stunning beaches are simply amazing. So, to make things even more fabulous, add some gorgeous head accessories for the summer brides and their maids, and it is a perfect summer day. My current obsession?  Flower crowns. They are trending right now, and I can see why. I  instantly want to infuse every inch of my life in beautiful florals; wildly glamorous, uber bright, bohemian floral crown kinds of florals. I found something pretty lovely in my inbox which I am super thrilled to share. Gorgeous floral crowns all beautifully designed and put together by the fabulous and oh so talented Arianna Garibo of Always Ari. • Crystal Vine Halo:  This one is my absolute favorite piece. I love them all, but if I had to choose,  this one is so pretty. This crown is all about the pink crystal vine which wraps around and creates a beautiful hair accessory. It gives an almost fairy-princess feel, for a boho princess bride. The crystals come in pink, clear, blue and green. How cute is this look when paired with a neutral high-low, flowy dress, leaf ring, bangles and pop of color stretchy bracelets? A total bohemian look. This look is darling and perfect for a bridal shower. Simply stunning!

Five Tips in Finding the Perfect Bridal Stylist

You have the dress, the shoes, and the groom, so what is next? Choosing a bridal hairstyle and makeup are the added elements to your whole bridal look. You want to look and feel beautiful, so choosing the right bridal stylist is very important. It is about you and what makes you feel not only amazing, but comfortable at the same time.  You want to be yourself on your wedding day! So we asked our hair and makeup expert, Gina Ludwig at Hair Comes the Bride to share with us five tips in choosing the perfect bridal stylist. Here is what she told us:

Finding the perfect bridal stylist can be a little overwhelming!  There are so many talented stylists out there, but, doing good hair and makeup is only one aspect that you should take into consideration when choosing a stylist.  Not all stylists are created equal and the right (or wrong) stylist can really make or break your wedding day experience.  Below are my tips for choosing the right bridal stylist for you:

  • Style: Everyone has their own style and personality, they way they do things, including your potential bridal stylist.  The first thing you want to do when narrowing down your choices is to find someone whose style is in line with yours, someone who you think you will get along well with.  Your first impression of your potential stylist is going to be their website.  Do you like the look of it?  Do you like the photos?  The colors?  What they say about their business and their brides?  And, most importantly, their style of hair and makeup?  If you find a stylist whose “style” really impresses you, the next step is going to be to contact the stylist for information.

 1

  • First Impression: In my opinion, when you contact a vendor for information, if they don’t get back to you within 24 hours, if not sooner, MOVE ON!  I know this sounds harsh but there are too many choices out there and if someone doesn’t  get back to you quickly, it means one of two things, either they are disorganized or they don’t really care.  Both of which is not a good thing!  Now let’s assume your potential stylist has gotten back to you in a timely manner, I hope I don’t have to tell you that when you talk to them if they don’t answer all of your questions in a thorough and pleasant manner or if they are short, impatient, rude or rub you the wrong way in ANY way, MOVE ON!

5

  • The Most Important Question to Ask: So you found a stylist who you really like.  Their style of hair and makeup is in line with yours, you get a good vibe from them, they got back to you quickly and answered all your questions in a pleasant and thorough manner.  Now comes, what I think is the most important question you can ask, that question is: “What is your policy if I am not happy for any reason?”  More specifically, “If I am not happy for any reason after my preview appointment, will you do another trial for free OR give me my money back?”  If a stylist has a proven track record of making brides happy and he or she is committed to being of service to their brides, they should not have a problem putting their money where their mouth is and guaranteeing the preview appointment!

6

  • The Preview: Now, it’s time for your preview.  Your preview is a great way to see, not only what you are going to look like on the wedding day but to see what your wedding day will be like working with this particular stylist.  Remember, your stylist is going to be the vendor who is literally going to be the closest to you right before you walk down the aisle.  You are going to spend 3-4 hours with her/him along side your friends and family.  Your hair and makeup trial should be a good indication of what that time will be like.  If after your preview appointment you feel anything less than thrilled and completely confident, you should not sign a contract.  You should, depending on how it went, request another preview with your stylist OR find another stylist altogether.  AND, if you took my advice and went with a stylist who offers a guarantee, you really have nothing to lose since even those few hours you spent at the preview will help you determine what you do or don’t want next time!

4

  • A Word About Budget: Most every bride has a budget and let’s be honest, it is usually one of the first things taken into consideration when looking for a stylist.  While, of course, there is nothing wrong with having a hair and makeup budget, keep in mind that compared to the other details of your wedding (flowers, food, venue, etc) your hair and makeup is going to be one of the least expensive.  Now, if you can find a stylist that you are thrilled with who is within or below your budget, awesome!  But, my advice is to take all of the other factors I have mentioned into consideration first and then look at budget last (not first like many brides do).  When it comes to your hair and makeup, it is too important a detail, don’t settle!  If going with your best choice, the choice that feels right for you ends up costing you even a few hundred dollars more than you budgeted, that is really not much when you look at the big picture and what you could potentially gain (or lose) by hiring the right (or wrong) stylist.
