Top Five Tips for Last Minute Bachelorette Parties

It’s already August- can you believe how quickly this summer passed by? If this summer’s been moving too quickly for you, you may have missed out on a few fun things. For example, did you remember to do a bachelorette party? Or were you more focused on the actual wedding? It’s okay to be focused on the big day, but you need to remember to take some time to have fun with your girls, too! If you need to take a weekend aside to have some fun with your bridesmaids, keep scrolling to check out our top tips on planning a last minute bachelorette party.

Keep It Short

Keep the bachelorette party to just a night if you’re in town, or two tops if you’re hitting the road. As you get closer to the wedding, you’ll all become more and more busy. Booking a long spa weekend with a Monday or Friday away from work can be too hard to plan for most people- especially if they’re already taking time off to go to the wedding. If you’re hitting the road aim for leaving on a Friday night and coming back Sunday afternoon. Do what you can to make it as unintrusive to everyone as possible.

Make a Plan

Of course you have one thing on your plan- have fun! But other than that, you need some sort of an agenda to keep it from being you and your bridesmaids all dolled up with nowhere to go. Look into any clubs, shows, or events that are going on that you could get reservations for (you don’t want to show up somewhere and have to wait in a long line or get turned away). Locking in a plan is so important and often gets overlooked. Be sure whatever you do and wherever you’re going is actually going to happen!

Sound the Horn

Have your maid of honor (or two of your bridesmaids) help you arrange your bachelorette party. You can’t do it all alone, afterall! Have one of your girls be the more main point of contact for wrangling all your bridesmaid so you don’t have to. Have them be sure that everyone is in attendance and knows what to wear. The last thing you need right now is your bridesmaids texting you suggesting different clubs to go to. Planning a wedding requires enough juggling as is, you don’t need to juggle arranging another party on top of it!

Plan your Rides

If you’re trying to get into some (safe!) trouble, be sure that everyone will be able to get home safe. Set up uber drivers, taxis, or a designated driver if there’s going to be any drinking at all. There’s often promo codes for free credits for uber drivers and other similar services (so you can do it on a budget!). Know in advance if you’re going to sleep at a friends house or if anyone is going to sleep on your couch for the night. Do what you can to get to your location and get home as safely as possible. It can be easy to overlook getting a ride, but you’ll be happy you planned ahead when the line for a cab goes around the block and you’re in uncomfortable heels.

Designate the Team Photographer

Be sure everyone’s phones and cameras are all charged up and ready to go! It can be handy to have one person be in charge of taking pictures so you’re not all fighting for selfie time. Have your maid of honor or one of your bridesmaids handle taking pictures for everyone and uploading in a timely manner. You may also want to prep her on what to upload and what not to upload, but that’s more up to you.

Top Five Tips for Faking a Bridal Glow

Having a bridal glow is a total must, but there is a lot of risk to tanning. Not only is it damaging to your skin, but you risk burning as well (and you do NOT want to be peeling during your wedding). We don’t want you to be a flaky bride, so we’ve got some great tips to give you a glow the healthy way.

Fake It

One of the easiest ways to get an even, all over glow is to do a spray tan. Spray tanning airbrushes pigment all over you that eventually washes off. It’s very common to find spray tan locations at tanning salons and beauty salons. If you want to try it out on the cheap, keep an eye out for groupon or living social deals. You also may be able to talk a salon into giving you a first-time deal. You’re going to want to fake tan a few days before the wedding so that the pigment has time to settle and doesn’t wipe off on your clothes

Bronzing Lotion

Want to try a fake tan at home? No worries, bronzing lotion is also a viable option. Drugstores as well as specialty beauty stores carry bronzing lotions that essentially let you put on your own fake tan at home. It’s good to do a test run a few weeks in advance so you know how your skin reacts to the lotion, and to see how easy it is for you to apply (for some hard to reach places, you may need a friend to help you out!). Be sure to read the instructions carefully and wear gloves (or you’ll end up with orange palms- yikes!).

BHLBronze1.jpg.jpg

Press for a Bronze Glow

Doing a bronze glow yourself is a quicker way to get a nice bronze glow on your wedding day. Since you’ll probably be wearing white, you need to plan ahead for any sort of bronzer fallout. The best way to do a powder bronzer is to do a pressed powder bronzer. Loose powders are much more likely to move around and fallout, and the last thing you’d want is smeared brown powder all over you! If you want to do an even glow, use a big wide brush with looser bristles to sweep an all-over bronze on your face and shoulders.

BHLBronze2.jpg.jpg

Try a Creamy Glow

If you don’t want to do a powder bronzer, try a creamy highlighter that has a golden tint. Any sort of rose gold cream highlighter could work to give a very subtle glow. Apply the highlighter on the apples of your cheeks and lightly to frame your face. The dewy texture of the highlighter will make the glow look angelic and romantic.

BHLBronze3.jpg.jpg

Seal the Deal

If you do any sort of same-day bronzing technique, be sure to seal in the color with a sealing spray. Putting a finishing powder may not be enough to hold your color in place on your neck or chest, so it’s best to use a spray. Find a spray sealant that you like that works in the heat so you don’t sweat any color off. If you skip this step, you risk your bridal glow getting all over your veil!

From Anna Smith Photography

Classy, stunning, sophisticated. Those three words would best describe Alison & John’s last weekend’s wedding. To say I enjoyed photographing this gorgeous event would be an understatement. Everything from the dress, to the flowers, to the venue, to weather – it all seemed to flow together for the bride and groom that day. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dallas has the prettiest stained glass windows, and the Belo Mansion is just one of the most stunning wedding venues in Dallas. The flower arrangements filled the room with lovely smell of roses. The wedding cake was out of this world. I especially loved John’s final surprise to Alison with the horse carriage send off. This was truly a timeless and beautiful kind of a day, and I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did!

Wedding Desserts and More from Superfine Bakery

I have to admit that today’s feature is a bit of a challenge to write the intro for. It is because I am totally distracted by the deliciously gorgeous desserts across my computer screen right now. Today’s feature is all about cakes, cookies, chocolates, and other yummy treats. I am excited to add  Superfine Bakery to our list of favorite dessert companies. You know how much of a foodie I am, and when there are desserts around, then I am a total dessert foodie. It is hard to resist something that is so lovely in design and presentation, and that the first bite has me wanting another.  Grab your morning coffee, and enjoy a little but of sweetness on this lovely Monday morning.

Superfine Bakery is a cake and confection house located in Los Angeles. Our focus is high-end wedding cakes and dessert tables featuring sweets all made from scratch (even our white chocolate fondant is house made). We’re trained in the European baking tradition, so our treats tent to be less sweet than others who use cake mixes or bulk-bought fillings. Our cakes feature some standard and some not-so-standard flavors like Pink Velvet (made with melted Belgian chocolate), Champagne cake (about four bottles of champagne are used in the batter for a 100-person cake), and Black Onyx Chocolate cake featuring a deep dark Black Onyx cocoa. We also love to soak our cakes with premium alcohols like Bacardi or Grand Marnier. Used lightly they add a nice flavor kick to a cake without overpowering the crumb or the icing flavors. Perfect!
Our confections tend to be off the beaten path too — we don’t offer cupcakes, macarons, or cake pops. Instead we go for a more sophisticated Foodie-driven table, featuring Splitter Truffles (clusters of chopped almonds and hazelnuts held together with white chocolate), Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies (eat them upsidedown to get the saltiest hit off the flavor), and Rocher crunch chocolate truffles — balls of crunchy chocolate swiped with 24-Karat gold on top.
Are we decadent? Yes. Do we love food? Most definitely! The more we eat and explore, the more we can bring back to the kitchen and to our clients.
Our designs are influenced by architecture, fashion, modern art, and nature. Rather than having a client choose a cake from a book of designs, we prefer to design something uniquely for them, with accents pulled from their event stationery, floral design, venue style, dresses and suits, as well as their personal story. The design process is really fun, with everyone getting involved to create something wonderful for a couple’s Big Day.

From the bride…

For months leading up to the wedding day we, or my mother and I, put in a lot of thought and work on cost saving ways to make the day the way we wanted it.  My husband would listen to my thoughts and always just said whatever you want sweetheart!  Through saving mason jars, wine bottles, and various things we were able to make all of the center pieces for the wedding.  We were blessed to have an amazing group of family and friends to help us with many different key pieces.  One of the bridesmaid’s mothers was an ex cake baker and made the wedding cake as a wedding gift.  The favors were from my dad’s candy store, Lindale Candy Company.  My mom did so much work on making different signs to display at the wedding, pictures to display, and other various things.  My dad cut logs for the cake bases and made the giant F for the wedding.

Three days prior to the wedding, my best friend (maid of honor) and one of my bridesmaids showed up to help get last minute things into place.  My mother showed up two days prior.  We were lucky enough to be able to start setting up a couple of days prior because no one had rented out the lodge.  Now after all of the work put in to the decorations and all of the different pieces it was time to put them all together.  To save money we decided to do all of the decorating on our own.  We worked all day and all night for two days to get everything ready.  We also got a group of family and friends together to set up the chairs at the wedding location.  One of my bridesmaids made all of the bows and tin can displays for the wedding site the day before the wedding.  She also wrapped the burlap through the arch to make it fit to the décor.  Without the help of my friends and family, this day would not have been possible.

So the wedding day, we all wake up around 7 am to eat breakfast and go get our nails done.  I had spent the night at the lodge with all of my bridesmaids so that we could all be together.  My maid of honor slept in a twin bed next to my twin bed.  We spent hours talking that night and that morning about the day to come.  Once we woke up, we started doing some last minute touches (putting table cloths on, center pieces in place, etc.) before heading out to get our nails done.  After finishing up with our nails, we returned to the lodge where hair and makeup were so that we could get started on that.  While the first two girls started with hair and makeup, the remaining girls started putting flowers out in the vases.  The flowers were ordered bulk and we arranged them ourselves.  The day flew by because we were all busy finishing up the last few things.  After putting the flowers out at the reception we went to the wedding site to put flowers out there.  Once that was done it was time for me to start getting my hair and makeup done.  Before we knew it, it was time to head to the wedding ceremony location to meet the photographer and get everything going.

While walking down the aisle it was amazing to see all of the hard work we put in come to life.  With everyone there smiling and all of the little touches looking amazing I knew that all of the hard work was totally worth it.  Even when we arrived to the reception I felt like it was all even better than it had been right before leaving for the ceremony.  It was like seeing everyone there enjoying the space made it more special and even more perfect.  This day would not have been possible without the help of my amazing mother, father, my new in-laws, and all of my bridesmaids.  We could not have had such a perfect day without all of their help.

Hotel at the Lafayette Wedding from Heather Bellini Photography

I know it is pretty hard to say goodbye to a long weekend and hello to the week. Mondays can be a total drag, but when you have a gorgeous wedding like this one, Monday just became my favorite day of the week.  I am in love with the teal and pink colors that this couple incorporated into their wedding day. It pairs nicely with the beautiful and rustic venue set in Buffalo, New York.  But, can we talk about the bride’s dress for a second? Oh my! This gown is so romantic and oh so lovely. Did you see the back of the gown? I can not get over how pretty this dress is. The soft lace details and stunning veil to pair it, is a dream. Simply beautiful. I can go on and on about this wedding (and the wedding gown!), but I think its best if you browse the stunning images for yourself and see what I am obsessing over.  I think your Monday is about to get really good. Enjoy!!

The rustic, yet modern decor of the Hotel at the Lafayette, with its exposed brick walls, soft lighting and city atmosphere was all that was necessary to inspire the happy couple, as well as their photographers! The garden patio was the perfect place for the wedding party to gather for portraits. The teal and bright pink color palette, was the perfect compliment to the warm May weather.
