From Jillian Ryan Photography

This wedding really stole my heart. For so many reasons.

For one, Lauren & Anthony chose CIBO IN PHOENIX as their venue, which is where Kyle and I had one of our very first dates and our wedding rehearsal dinner. It’s the coolest restaurant and they serve the best pizza in Phoenix, hands down. Just writing about it makes me want to drive there right this second, sit outside on their patio, and kick back with a Peroni and a delicious pizza with some prosciutto sprinkled on it…. mmmmmm….

And another reason this wedding was so awesome was because these two also walked down the aisle to theSCORE FROM THE GODFATHER and their first dance song was, “THAT’S AMORE” by Dean Martin. So cool. The fun way they embraced their Italian culture and incorporated that into their wedding day was such a blast to be a part of.

The green, purple, and gold colors of this wedding were a unique color combination and one that fit so well with the Italian theme. The embroidered band on Lauren’s dress was the perfect simple and beautiful detail to add to her gorgeous, bohemian style gown. I also really enjoyed the uniqueness of the outfits that the groom and groomsmen wore. It seems like the women and bridesmaids in weddings always have the opportunity to be colorful and it was refreshing to see the groomsmen be able to do that here as well. Oh, and Lauren’s brother made their bouquets and all of the centerpieces himself. They had a creative and artistic look to them, which were also unlike any other floral arrangements I’ve seen.

Lauren and Anthony are truly a laid back couple if there ever was one. It was wonderful to photograph them because they were up for anything. When I mentioned walking a bit farther to do some photos by an abandoned house, without a second’s hesitation, they agreed. These two and their bridal party were game for all of the ideas I had in mind and that really makes for an overall amazing photography experience.

I feel like I could go on and on about this wedding, how Anthony’s best man and brother was hilarious and awesome, the badass Clockwork Orange tat on one of the groomsmen, how the entire family got down on the dance floor all night long, the yummy italian desserts they served, how sweet and adorable they were with each other the entire day… but I’d probably be writing for way too long and then you’d never get to the actual photos! So here they areI hope you enjoy!

Top Five Ways to Pull Off Your ‘Something Old’

You’ve heard the old saying- “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. It’s a little superstition that a bride should wear one of each (old, new, borrowed, blue) to ensure a successful and happy marriage. The tradition is cute, and if you’re one of the many brides following it we’ve got some ideas for your ‘something old’.

Family Jewels

If you want to pay homage to your family as you embark on starting a new one, this is a great way to do it! Ask your mother, grandmother, sister, or whoever you’re close to if they have any jewelry you could wear for the big day. The older the better! Ask for anything that has been passed down generation to generation. It may not be a trendy or modern piece, but the meaning will make it incredibly meaningful.

Vintage Veils

Check out old antique stores for vintage silk and lace for your veil. Veils in and of themselves are also a superstition, so it’s nice to pair the two up. Using vintage lace or silk makes the whole piece that much more romantic and detailed. The more delicate, the more graceful and poised you will look. You can try asking around to borrow one from someone else for real authenticity.

Love Letters

Remember when Mr. Big wrote Carrie all those love letters to win her back? Yeah, we love that kind of stuff. If you’re writing in your vows, you can opt to saying your ‘something old’ rather than carry it around. Look up old love letters from great writers for guidance in your vows! Or, if you or your partner happen to be romantics, you can use lines from your own old love letters. It adds an extra creative layer to your vows, plus it’ll become that much more intimate.

Classic Spray

Look for the most vintage, beautiful bottle of perfume you can and have at it! Think about scents that you remember from your first date or the first time you kissed. Maybe you have a favorite scent that’s been around forever- that works too! The sense of smell triggers the most memories, might as well make them good ones!

Family Cookbook

Before you lock in everything with the caterers, consider dusting off a few family recipes from both of your families. By paying homage to your family’s recipes, you’re letting everyone take part in traditions and sharing them with your friends and family. If you pass off some favorite recipes to your caterer, they may even be able to do it for you!

Fashionable and Stylish Engagement Session from Big Star Studios

Gushing over this super romantic and lovely engagement session from Big Star Studios. Where can I even begin with the introduction to this e-session? How can I properly introduce this stunning session with this fashionable couple? There are so many details that I love about this engagement session, and so hard to choose one to talk about. So, I will just talk about all of them! First, I have to talk about the dress. How adorable is this dress? It is darling. And the shoes? This bride is totally rocking the pink heels. Perfect compliment to a stunning dress.  I can not handle how pretty this dress is. The bride looks amazing.  Obsessed! Some may say the wedding day is all about the bride, but this engagement session really is! If she looks this good now, I can not imagine what she will wear on her wedding day. I bet it will be as fabulous as this dress.  But I have to say something about the groom-to-be.  He is looking pretty dapper and fashionable. These two love birds should be models. They are so darn gorgeous, and I am loving their style. What is great about this couple, is that you can tell how in love they are with each other and Big Star Studios was there to capture it all.  For all you fashionistas out there, you do not want to miss this stylish and modern e-session. Top Five Ways to Earn Extra Wedding Cash

Budgeting can be super hard and frustrating, and it can only get more stressful the closer you get to your wedding. All that fun stuff you’ve been planning for can seriously add up, but that’s okay. There’s no reason to do your wedding on the cheap, you totally deserve to have the wedding you want! There comes the problem of having to pay for it all. If you’re looking over the bill and realizing you could use a few extra dollars here and there, we’ve got the top five best tips for making that happen!

Save Receipts to Save Paper

You’re going to spend money on food and groceries regardless of your budget situation, make use of it! The basic bride will keep an eye on what’s on sale and look for coupons, the advanced bride will hang on to receipts and look for rebates. There are smartphone apps like Checkout 51 and Ibotta that will give you actual money in exchange for pictures of your receipts. If you’re grabbing fun stuff for a bachelorette brunch or even just stocking your fridge for a long night of signing thank you notes, you might as well make a little money back. You won’t get rich but it’s a quick, easy, and non-invasive way to make a little bit of money on the side.

Plan for a Merge-Have an E-Yard Sale!

If you’re going to merge furniture and household goods soon with your fiance, take a serious look at what you both have in stock. Since it’s late August now, the ‘college move’ has started everywhere. College kids are moving in and need furniture and appliances quickly! This is the best time of the year to be selling furniture and appliances for quick cash. If you realize you’ll have a couch you don’t know what to do with or an extra toaster, take a few pictures and put them online and let the highest offer have at it. Selling your items online is much easier than doing a yard sale nowadays. You save yourself the time spent sitting on your lawn hoping to flag down someone, you reach a wider audience, and you get more serious offers. If you’re a part of a college group page on social media, try posting on there as well to promote your sale- it seriously works!

Shop Secretly (and Get Paid)

Secret shopping may seem like a silly pipe dream, but it’s a serious way to get paid to eat or shop. Do searches for credible secret shopping services (Market Force is a great one!), sign up, and look for secret shop assignments that work for you. You should never be asked to pay to be a secret shopper, you only have to file as an independent contractor (for tax purposes). If you’re a bride on the go, plan to meet friends at restaurants you have to secret shop- it’s killing two birds with one stone and you’ll get paid to be there! Doesn’t that make a lunch meeting about seating charts that much more gratifying?

Get a Side Gig

Scan your facebook feed for friends throwing events and ask if they need an extra hand. Look out for shows, events, parties, anything where you figure they could need another person to help out and ask if they’d need extra employees for the day. Helping out a friend with their event can make them much more likely to help out during yours (you know, like helping set up for a wedding…). You could also offer to help out with life events like moving or re-painting. If your newsfeed is a little dry, check out the day gigs on craigslist. There can be quick jobs you can do to help put together events that pay easy cash. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, attending tapings of shows on your days off is an easy way to make some money on the side. It won’t get you rich, but it’ll help that budget!

Upgrade your Appliances

Do you know how many rebates there are for having energy or water safe appliances? Way more than you realize! California is in the middle of a really rough drought and are working hard to encourage efficient water use. Nationwide, there are different programs by state that offer rebates on the actual appliance itself or discounts on your bill. Check to see if you’re missing out on rebates from appliances you already own- you may be missing out on some serious cash! If you’ll need new big appliances after the wedding, register for appliances that qualify for rebates. If you want to know what rebates are available in your area (sometimes, they can vary by county), check your county’s official .gov website. If you’re heading into a store to register for a big appliance, ask the salesperson about appliances that qualify for rebates. You can decrease your footprint and save some cash for a bridesmaid brunch. Everybody wins!

Laura wanted something a little more modern for her shoot. But she also wanted to tie in some of the rustic details to make it more her style. We chose an old warehouse in Mebane, NC to start it off then headed out to a local farm to get some softer shots of Laura.

Top Five Tips for Easing your Wedding Stress

Weddings are one of the most stressful events a person can plan- it’s the biggest party you’ll ever throw and it’s for all of your family and friends. The pressure’s seriously on! It’s totally understandable to have a little bit of anxiety before (or even during) the big day. But no worries- it’s all totally manageable with our five tips on settling any wedding stress.

Walk it Off

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or like there’s too much going on, simply put down whatever you’re doing and take a walk. It can seriously change your headspace and make you feel much more balanced. Fresh air can often make you feel refreshed and ready to take on your challenges. Plus you can count it towards your cardio, which will make you feel better after trying on white dresses all day.

Unplug

Phone ringing off the hook? Turn it off and do something else. Phones can be much more stressful than you realize, and with your wedding coming up people will be reaching out to you more than ever. This can be totally stressful and a huge reason you’re feeling some stress. Unplug for an hour and take a little time for yourself. You’re planning a wedding, you deserved it!

Turn Down

Set a timer for 30 minutes, turn off the lights, and relax. Naps aren’t just for kids- they’re for anyone who just needs a bit of rest during the day, and that includes brides! If you don’t want to sleep but could totally use some shut-eye, just lie down and put on some soft music and zone out. Giving your body a little bit of time to re-set can prepare you to take on the rest of your day like a champ! Just don’t do it after a cake tasting, you’ll just sleep for the rest of the day.

Aim for the Shoulders

Sometimes you just need someone to rub the aches out of your shoulders, and that’s fine. If you’re trapped in a mall with a flower girl who can’t try on a dress, duck out and get one of those fifteen-minute massages (you know what I’m talking about!). It’s true what’s said about carrying stress in your shoulders. It can be physically painful and a constant reminder that you’re stressed or have a lot on your plate. Get your shoulders rub, breathe deeply, and let go of whatever’s weighing you down. If your fiance is there, you can probably get a free shoulder rub as long as you promise to return the favor. After all, a stress-free couple makes for a great marriage!

Get Soapy

Ever notice how when you wake up in the morning and shower you start to feel refreshed? Kick-start the process and refresh yourself by taking a quick shower. Just hop in, take a quick shower, and your body will feel refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your day. The steam will open up your nostrils and you will be able to breathe deeper (it’s true- steam next time you’re feeling congested) and be able to relax more. It’ll feel especially great after you’ve done a bigger activity, like your makeup or hair trial. Reset and be refreshed!

Whimsical and Romantic Post-Wedding Photo Session

Wedding photographs are my favorite type of photos. They show off all the beautiful and lovely details of a wedding day and a couple’s love for each other.  But what is even more magical is the post wedding moments. Yes, a post wedding photo session. When you have Matthew Druin Photography to capture it all, it is even better. Today’s feature is all about the post wedding details, and that means a “trash the dress” session. However, there is no trashing of the dress, but instead this couple is immersed by the most gorgeous surroundings which makes for a perfect “post-wedding” photo session. The location is just stunning and I am obsessed with how whimsical and romantic the settings are.   I have to admit, the first image that caught my eye was the one with the bride and the horse. Okay, how sweet is that? I LOVE it. I can go on and on about this breathtaking photo session, but I will let you take a look for yourself and see all the lovely details. Okay, one more thing… that bridal gown? Dying over here. Just extraordinary!

From Matthew Druin Photography

After Maria & Kyle’s Atlanta wedding in April, they wanted to take even more photos in their wedding attire. After talking it over a bit, we decided on a semi-trash the dress / bridal type session that would allow us to capture some really beautiful photos of them. The main goal was not to trash the dress like other sessions, but if it happened in the process, no one was worried about it.

In search of a whimsical and romantic location, Maria talked to her friend Nancy about using her beautiful property deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia and she was more than willing to help out. We made the three hour drive and although the weather called for rain, we were very lucky and it turned out to be a perfect all day. Once we arrived, we met up with Nancy and her husband Tim, who were both beyond generous and more than willing to help in anyway.

After Maria and Kyle were changed and ready to go, we started in one of the barns. We were constantly followed by a curious block cat who just loved clawing and riding on Maria’s dress. I guess that’s trash the dress by cat. :) Once we finished with the barn area, the real adventure started. Nancy took us on a tour of the rugged back hill terrain of the mountains in a Cadillac Escalade no less. Surprising the Escalade handled extremely well as we crossed small rivers, drove on the edge of vertical cliffs, and over steep rocks. It really felt like an African safari, at least to us city slickers. We were only missing the wild animals.

As we journey deeper and deeper into the mountains, we would stop at various locations that looked interesting. Some times getting to the location took some legwork climbing through poison ivy and barefoot across jagged river beds. Sometimes you just have to make sacrifices to get what you want. Even being as succeeded as we were on the side of the mountains, we would occasionally run across a random person or two. Of course they would take one look at Maria and Kyle in their wedding attire, riding around in an Escalade, and laugh. I couldn’t blame though, we really kind of stuck out.

Battling the ever setting sun, we eventually headed back to capture some photos with one of Nancy and Tim’s many horses. Between all three of us, we had about a half a day of riding experience. None the less, Nancy and Tim stayed with us the whole time to help us through it all. The black cat also made his return and showed us all how to ride a horse with ease. When Maria first mounted the horse, it took a minute of so to adjust. The particular horse we were using had what Tim called an “easy mouth”. I’m not 100% sure if the horse was trained that way or that’s just how the horse was naturally, but meant it didn’t take much on the reins to make the horse move in any direction.

Maria quickly figured the out when she pulled back slightly on the reins to adjust herself and the horse started to quickly back up. The more he backed up the more she would pull trying to keep her balance. Faster and faster the horse ran backwards until he tripped on some wood and both Maria and the horse went down! I was in shock as all this took place and had no reaction to anything. As they fell to the ground Maria’s amazing rodeo clown skills came out and she some how did a flip / twist type of thing and rolled out of the before the horse actually landed on her.

Both Maria and the horse were perfectly okay, but after such a jarring and traumatizing experience, you would think Maria would be over the whole “photos on a horse” idea. Ha! Of course she wasn’t. She dusted herself off and hopped right back up there like she was about to go herd cattle. We took our time and slowly finished all the photos we need just as the sun really began to set.

All in all, it was really nice to get out of the city for the day and spend time with some awesome people. We had an incredible time and an amazing adventure that none of us will soon forget.

Top Five Tips for Brides Needing ‘Me’ Time

Your wedding is going to be the biggest party you’ll ever throw, so it’s totally normal if it you start to feel overwhelmed. You’ll be coordinating with a ton of people both professionally (vendors, your wedding coordinator, etc.) and personally (friends, family, coworkers, etc.) and it’ll be harder and harder to take some time to yourself. You know you’ll need some ‘me’ time- everyone does and it’ll keep you balanced! Weddings can make it seem like you’ll never get ‘me’ time ever again, but you will- and we’re here to help you get some.

Send Out the Bridesmaids

You have a small army of girlfriends for this reason- to support you. You asked them to be bridesmaids because you love them, they said yes because they love you! If you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask them for help in tasks you can delegate out. Have them gather addresses by assigning a few to each bridesmaid. Have them help out by picking up vendor samples or do mail runs for you. Let your girls take care of things for you so you can sleep in that extra hour- you’ll thank them and yourself later!

Take a Day Off

The closer you get to the wedding date, the more each day will be eaten up with wedding tasks and errands. You’ll look down at your planner and see that it’s full of to-dos and meet and greets which can feel totally overwhelming. Our biggest tip for making some ‘me’ time in this scenario? Reschedule so you have a day off. Don’t schedule any wedding errands or meetings on Tuesdays for example so you can catch up on the rest of your life. We don’t suggest putting your day off on the weekend, since that’s when you’ll probably have enough time to knock out the most wedding action items.

No Phones at the Table

An easy way to enjoy some serious ‘me’ time? Enjoy a meal without any distractions (not even Instagram!). Nothing crazy will happen in the half hour you may take to enjoy a meal, plus you’ll actually be able to enjoy your food that much more. If eating alone isn’t your idea of fun, take along your fiance and agree to a no-wedding-talk meal so you can both destress from the craziness. Just be sure to turn your phone back on when you’re ready to be back on the grid.

Schedule Beauty Time

Your wedding is coming up so you will probably need to get a mani/pedi- you might as well take advantage of that! Splurge on yourself and get that extra pampering package and enjoy yourself. Put aside extra time to get pampered and while you’re at it, splurge for the extra few minutes of massage or even a facial. It may feel a little frivolous (especially if you’re on a budget), but it’ll make you feel fantastic and buy you some serious ‘me’ time.

Start With Yourself

When you wake up in the morning before you turn on your phone, start checking emails, or even get to showering and really waking up, watch an episode of something you’ve fallen behind in. Catch up with everything else after you’ve taken some time to yourself to de-stress and be ready for the day. You don’t always have to hit the ground running, you can lead up to it and then finish strong later in the day.

Hôtel & Spa Mont Gabriel Wedding from Caroline Lessard Photographe

Excuse me while I drool over all the lovely pink details of this gorgeous wedding in Quebec, Canada. Oh my goodness, I normally would not call myself a pink color loving girl, but this wedding has me falling in love with this color. This wedding screams romance! I am seriously in love with this bride and her groom and their romantic filled wedding. All the details are so pretty. The bridal shoes, the flowers, and even the groom and his men’s pink socks, has me falling in love more with this color. Of course, Caroline Lessard Photographe captured the wedding with the most stunning images. Monday is not so bad when there is a wedding as pretty as this one. You may fall head over heels in love with this wedding (and the color pink), once you view the photographs. Go ahead, and get yourself pretty pink!

From Caroline Lessard Photographe

This fuchsia inspired wedding took place in Mont Saint-Gabriel. The words to perfectly describe this day would have to be perfectly touching. Perfect because everything was perfect to them as they planned, surrounded by everybody they love. And, oh so emotional, seriously I had tears at so many times… I have to say I love them so much, and lucky to say they like me to! An amazing connection from the day we met,  I feel so blessed that they chose me to immortalize their special day. We had the chance to do their romantic couple session on the golf course, with the breath taking view on the mountains. The wind was pumping that day, and I loved it! We played around with it and had a blast.
