Top Five Tips for Easing your Wedding Stress

Weddings are one of the most stressful events a person can plan- it’s the biggest party you’ll ever throw and it’s for all of your family and friends. The pressure’s seriously on! It’s totally understandable to have a little bit of anxiety before (or even during) the big day. But no worries- it’s all totally manageable with our five tips on settling any wedding stress.

Walk it Off

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or like there’s too much going on, simply put down whatever you’re doing and take a walk. It can seriously change your headspace and make you feel much more balanced. Fresh air can often make you feel refreshed and ready to take on your challenges. Plus you can count it towards your cardio, which will make you feel better after trying on white dresses all day.

Unplug

Phone ringing off the hook? Turn it off and do something else. Phones can be much more stressful than you realize, and with your wedding coming up people will be reaching out to you more than ever. This can be totally stressful and a huge reason you’re feeling some stress. Unplug for an hour and take a little time for yourself. You’re planning a wedding, you deserved it!

Turn Down

Set a timer for 30 minutes, turn off the lights, and relax. Naps aren’t just for kids- they’re for anyone who just needs a bit of rest during the day, and that includes brides! If you don’t want to sleep but could totally use some shut-eye, just lie down and put on some soft music and zone out. Giving your body a little bit of time to re-set can prepare you to take on the rest of your day like a champ! Just don’t do it after a cake tasting, you’ll just sleep for the rest of the day.

Aim for the Shoulders

Sometimes you just need someone to rub the aches out of your shoulders, and that’s fine. If you’re trapped in a mall with a flower girl who can’t try on a dress, duck out and get one of those fifteen-minute massages (you know what I’m talking about!). It’s true what’s said about carrying stress in your shoulders. It can be physically painful and a constant reminder that you’re stressed or have a lot on your plate. Get your shoulders rub, breathe deeply, and let go of whatever’s weighing you down. If your fiance is there, you can probably get a free shoulder rub as long as you promise to return the favor. After all, a stress-free couple makes for a great marriage!

Get Soapy

Ever notice how when you wake up in the morning and shower you start to feel refreshed? Kick-start the process and refresh yourself by taking a quick shower. Just hop in, take a quick shower, and your body will feel refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your day. The steam will open up your nostrils and you will be able to breathe deeper (it’s true- steam next time you’re feeling congested) and be able to relax more. It’ll feel especially great after you’ve done a bigger activity, like your makeup or hair trial. Reset and be refreshed!

Why Brides Might Want to Try Acupuncture

What do knowledge do you have about acupuncture? Is your only impression of acupuncture a vague image of someone with needles jammed into them in random spots? Obviously, that isn’t all there is to acupuncture and it is a proven remedy for stress, weight loss, emotional balance, and well being – all things that a bride must have going into her wedding day. The following tips will help you understand acupuncture a little more to see if it is for you.

Expect to feel a sensation of heaviness or lightness in different areas of your body. This is entirely normal and is caused by the stimulation of your nerves. You should focus on this sensation and relax as much as you can. You should not fight these sensations to get the most out of your treatment.

When determining which acupuncturist to use, make sure you find out whether the person is NCCAOM certified. This certification indicates that the doctor took an exam and finished a comprehensive program. While it is not a guarantee that the acupuncturist will be the right fit for you, it is a good start.

There are few negative aspects to acupuncture as an alternative therapy, but one important one is that there are no guarantees the treatment will be effective. While it is rare, but soreness and bruising may occur, and it is also possible to get an infection if sterile procedures are not carefully followed.

Make sure the acupuncturist you go to performs painless acupuncture. Painless treatments are very popular in the U.S. but pain can actually play a part in relieving your stress or treating your health problem. You should not try these treatments until you know more about acupuncture and are ready to try a more advanced treatment.

You shouldn’t have anything alcoholic to drink before treatment. Acupuncture is something that helps you clear up your mind so that you can have more clarity. The use of alcohol, tobacco or caffeine can make treatment more difficult and less effective. If you overindulged the night before your appointment and are feeling the alcohol, you might consider rescheduling your appointment so you can reap the full benefits.

If you feel pain during an acupuncture session, let your practitioner know. A small prick is normal when the needle is inserted, but you should not feel anything beyond that. More intense pain can mean that the practitioner hit a nerve, and this can cause you to experience adverse side effects if it is not immediately addressed.

It is always important that you feel comfortable with the person preforming acupuncture on you. Being uncomfortable and remaining tense through the treatments can end up being counterproductive to your therapy. Find an acupuncturist that you feel totally comfortable with and once you do, stick with that person. You can even give other people referrals.

Acupuncture rarely is painful in any way. The needles used in acupuncture are very thin. You can barely see them with the naked eye. Because of their small size, they often do not hit nerve endings and you will feel no pain. Even when they do hit a nerve, they are so small you barely feel it.

You are hopefully feeling more at ease about taking a trip to the acupuncturist. Many websites offer introductory deals at a great price for first-timers. If you are a bride and looking for an out-of-the-box method for relieving muscle problems, or to find stress relief, you might want to give this a try.

Helpful Advice For Coping With Your Wedding Anxiety

Let’s face it – most brides and grooms going into their wedding day feel a lot of nerves and are prone to anxiety attacks. It’s a stressful time! Anxiety is one of those things that we all have to deal with. The difference for some people is that it has a bigger physical and emotional impact than it does for others. Managing the anxiety levels you face on a daily basis can severely change the amount of time you spend dealing with your anxiety symptoms.  This guide is meant to provide a few good tips to allow you to cope with stress and by no means definitive mental health advice, for that please seek a licensed therapist or even consult with your primary care physician.

Focus your attention on the place where the anxiety is stemming from. You may feel this physically, and concentrating on it can reduce or eliminate it completely. If your attention starts to stray, just refocus yourself back to the place that is causing you anxiety for several minutes. If you do not put some type of positive interaction in between you and your anxiety, it will continue to grow. No matter what you decide to do, when an anxiety attack occurs, try remaining positive about everything that goes through your mind. When something negative occurs, turn it into something positive.

Becoming a busybody is a great way to get your anxiety levels back under control. Sitting around for the whole day causes you to think about your anxiety more. Simple things, such as cleaning the house or washing your car can really help. Stay busy; the more you have to do, the less time you will have to think about what might be bothering you in your life. You will be able to then set some time aside to figure out your issues, without constantly having to worry about them throughout the day.

Exercise is a great way to reduce your anxiety. When you work up a sweat at the gym or outdoors you just feel better about yourself. The more you get in shape, the less anxiety you’re prone to have as well. Consult with a doctor to see if your body can take some exercise, and then, get to it. Educate yourself on different types of beverages that can help you cope with anxiety. Some people report that chamomile tea is perfect for de-stressing. Try that kind of tea and see if it helps you de-stress.

If you start to have an anxiety attack while you are trying to sleep, respond immediately. Getting up and moving around, drinking a glass of water, eating an apple, or watching some television can help. Walking and moving around will make you feel tired and read for a good night of sleep. Learn to feel the anxiety in your body. Focus on where it is located, such as a tight chest feeling, and stay focused on it until the feeling dissolves. This may seem difficult at first, but with just a bit of practice you will be able to release anxious feelings within seconds or a few minutes.

Just follow some of the tips in this article and you would be surprised how quickly your mind will adapt. Remember, the wedding is a joyous occasion where you are celebrating your love and should not be looked at with dread. Be happy, be wise, and relax!
