I adore love stories. Everyday, I get to browse through all the beautiful weddings where love stories are told. All the details are expressed by the stunning photographs. I never get bored of it all.  That is just the beginning of my obsession with all things that have to do with weddings.  I actually enjoy all the pre-wedding details as well. I have to admit, that I get kind of giddy when I hear news of an engagement. I love hearing the proposal story! In celebration of all the recent engagements, I wanted to share what you can do to have the most amazing photo shoot. When it is all done, you will walk away feeling like a million bucks!

Connie Kim is a Wardrobe Stylist and Fashion Consultant at Styled By Connie.  Connie’s love and passion for style, fashion, and high-end design, gives her the inspiration to do engagement and wedding wardrobe styling. She prepares you and your groom to have the most fabulous and amazing photo session.  What exactly is styling? We asked Connie, and she told us, Wardrobe styling is essentially pulling all the looks together, whether it be the outfit itself, shoes, accessories, and focusing on an individual’s fit and comfort with the looks.

When Connie meets with you, she wants you to have a unforgettable photo shoot. She will discuss what type of overall style and theme you would like your photo session to look like.  She will then create inspiration boards to make sure you see exactly what you are looking for. Connie will personally accompany you in shopping for that perfect wardrobe, or she can do the shopping for you, and deliver it.  Either way, Connie will be with you every step of the way. She can even be at location for the photo session. When Connie is on location she says, I want to make sure the couple’s looks are polished and good to go for the entire session. What’s great about bringing on a stylist is that we handle the details so that you can concentrate on enjoying the moment and simply looking fabulous.  To get that fabulous look to be impeccable, she will work with the hair and make-up artists to make sure the look compliments the style and theme.  Connie will not only make you look fabulous and stylish, she will make you feel like a superstar.

Three Great Ways a Groom Can Help with the Wedding Planning

Let’s be honest, when it comes to planning a wedding, the groom typically either takes a back seat to the bride or doesn’t have anything to do with the matter at all. Nevertheless, even if the couple-to-be is armed with a top notch Wedding Planner, we have three easy tasks that most grooms might actually be excited to help out with.

Find the DJ or Live Band

Grooms like music and most will be more than happy to take on the task of finding the DJ or go hunting for a great band. It’s an exciting endeavor to find a sick DJ, or find that perfect band that can bring a tremendous amount of fun, excitement and energy to the wedding and the reception. More often than not being able to check out the DJ or Bands will involve meeting them in person, plus seeing them perform at a venue such as a local bar, which most grooms wouldn’t consider a chore at all.

Find the Videographer

In this day and age of technology where everyone is armed with a video camera in their pocket, many guys have taken up both videography and photography as a hobby. When SLR cameras from Nikon and Canon came down to consumer level prices, this also opened the door to many would-be enthusiasts to engage in their passion armed with professional grade equipment. If your future groom is someone that loves photography or enjoys putting together home videos, it’s highly probable that he’ll also greatly enjoy the search for a photographer or videographer. More often than not your wedding planner will give you a list of optimal vendors to choose from given your date, budget and venue. From there, your groom can check out the leads by visiting websites to view portfolios, or even meeting up with a photographer or videographer locally (coffee shops do nicely) to find the right fit.

Honeymoon Travel Details

Another aspect of the wedding the groom can easily take care of and at the same time be happy to engage in will be the honeymoon details. Everyone likes to travel and figure out where they are going to spend one of their best vacations ever. Your groom in this case can go hunting for the best deal and find out where in the world you two can spend your first days and nights as husband and wife. This might involve talking to a travel agent (yes, they still exist), talking to friends, reading blog entries about smart honeymoon ideas, and hunting online for the vacation of a lifetime. Most guys would jump at the idea of planning a honeymoon, whether you are travelling abroad, going on a cruise or doing the standard trip to Hawaii.

TLC’s Four Weddings Winning Bride: January 25th

Who was the winning bride from Friday’s TLC’s “Four Weddings” show? Kale!  Her wedding was non-traditonal and it got her a total score  of 82 points out of 120 points. Here is the breakdown.

Venue: 16 points
Dress:  30 points
Experience: 18 points
Food: 18 points

The other three brides really loved her dress which was one of four costume changes. Her ceremony dress was beautiful. The top is a beaded bodice with a beautiful beaded sash. The bottom made up of organza flowed beautifully as she walked or danced. Kale looked absolutely  beautiful! It was the perfect dress for her.

Congrats to Kale for winning an all expenses paid honeymoon. Even though her wedding was non-traditional, Kale and her husband enjoy the traditional honeymoon in paradise. Time to pack up their bags and enjoy a relaxing and enjoyable honeymoon.

Here is a look back at Kale’ s wedding:

TLC’s Four Weddings Episode Recap: January 25th

Did you watch last night’s episode of “Four Weddings” on TLC?  What are your thoughts of the four brides and their weddings? What details stood out for you? Here is a recap of the episode:

Who are the Brides?:

  • Kale, a bride who is non-traditional and wants to dance the night away at her wedding. Being non traditional, the wedding takes place at a Design Center in San Francisco, California. The ceremony featured some elegant decor of beautiful trees, candles, and white orchids. Prior to the Kale walking down the aisle, there was a dance piece performed by a dancer.  Personal vows were shared with each other and also with Kale’s daughter. Variety of food buffet style, simple tree flower centerpieces, and a personal dance from the bride, all featured at Kale’s reception. Four costume changes took place with Kale: ceremony, dance performance, dance cocktail dress, and a dress for cutting cake and end of evening.
  • Jennifer cruises with her groom and all her guests around San Francisco Bay on her wedding day. Prior to ceremony, champagne was handed to each guest. On the top deck of the yacht, the ceremony took place with silver and purple colors, and a ivy covered arch. Down at the lower deck of the boat, the reception took place with decor of white linens, glass vases with orchids floating inside, candles, and purple sashes on chairs.
  • Christa a bride who has waited 12 years to say ” I do”, gets married on a golf course.  The ceremony was set with white tulle and black bows down the aisle, a white rose decorated alter, all with a backdrop of the golf course. After a short ceremony, guests go inside for the reception. The colors of Christa’s wedding were black and white with some bling. The centerpieces were glass vases with white flowers, and rhinestones. The tables had white linens, black sashes on the chairs, and wedding favors packaged in small black boxes.
  • Araceli a bride who features some of her Mexican heritage at her wedding. Set in a beautiful garden setting, the ceremony featured a gazebo with hanging jewels, white roses flowers, and tall green trees. Once they both were under the gazebo, in their ceremony, they had a wedding laso put around them which was part of the Mexican ceremony tradition. The cocktail hour had passed appetizers, food stations, and the Mariachi band playing in the background. The reception was also set outside on the green lawn with the lovely trees around. Her something blue colors was evident in her decor. The guest tables had  silver rhinestone chargers, and white vase with white, blue, and purple flowers. There was also blue lighting on the trees. The dance floor had line dancing, and full of energy and fun.

Cool factor:  There was one detail from each wedding that stood out for me. What I loved at Kale’s reception was the ice cream bar. I know I did not taste the ice cream, however it looked so good and you can not go wrong with ice cream. I think besides the wedding cake, it gives guests something fun and good to have for dessert. Who does not like ice cream?    I liked the personal touch that  Jennifer  had for her wedding favors. Jennifer and her family made ring shaped cookies for all their guests. I also liked that the bride herself handed them out to each guest as they walked off the boat. What a great personal touch! What I thought was really sweet at Christa’s wedding was the Southern Rock music tribute to her dad who had passed away a few years ago. I thought it was a great way to bring energy and love to such a special day in Christa’s life.  At Araceli’s wedding, she wanted to incorporate her Mexican heritage, and so at the processional, a Mariachi Band played music. As Araceli and her groom walked the aisle, and then guests then followed, the Mariachi band played. I thought this was very unique and a great way to incorporate the Mexican culture.

Who won? Congrats to Kale for winning!  She and her husband won an all expenses paid honeymoon to Caribbean islands. I was not surprised  at all about the results.  While I can not account for the food since I wasn’t actually there, I did like the originality, venue, and the dress at Kale’s wedding. Her non-traditional style wedding really showed with four costume changes, a design center as the wedding location,  and her personal dance that she performed. Way to put on a great wedding, Kale!  So how did the other three brides score? Christa came in second, Araceli in third, and Jennifer in fourth place. Were you surprised by the results?

The Wedding 80s Band: Flashback Heart Attack

It’s officially “Throwback Thursday” on BHL. Let’s look back at an amazing time where big hair, jean jackets, leg warmers, neon colors, and crimped hair were all stylish and hip.  As much as I think the fashion was not at its best, this era had some amazing music. Can you guess what era I am talking about? That is right, the 80s! The 80s had the most incredible music and I still can not get enough of the synthesizers. If you love 80s music as much as I do and want to have a fun, memorable, and amazing night for you and your guests, then you will want to book the hottest 80s band around, Flashback Heart Attack. I can tell you that I have personally seen this band perform, and if it was not for them, my New Years Eve experience would have been dull and boring. I could not stop dancing, singing along, and having the best time I’ve had at a New Years event in many years. This band is full of energy and pure fun, consisting of four leather loving and talented guys, all dedicated to giving you all you need to have a great time.  I instantly fell in love with their performance, so much so that I did not move from my front row spot the whole night. I can go on and on about this band, but let’s find out more about Flashback Heart Attack in their own words:

We started as a band of professional musicians. We played in original bands and currently write music for the industry (network TV, commercials) . Our drummer toured with pop singer Ashley Simpson. He played with her on the infamous Saturday Night Live performance which was the beginning of the end of her career. (She went into singing the wrong song) Flashback Heart Attack was put together with the goal of creating the most professional, hi energy, over the top visual band with spot on sound recreating all the hits of the 80s while giving the audience the most fun one and memorable time. Our first show was a friends wedding and the response was over whelming. From that point our wedding requests seem to build every year. We play about 10 weddings a year and they always go over great. Most of our business is from couples/parents that have seen us at a friends wedding or by word of mouth. 2013 We already have a handful booked and a couple is flying Flashback out to Seattle in April to play their wedding reception. Our availability is first come first served. Get ready for an unforgettable evening.

The band lends its charm to performing all the 80s hits complete with era correct one of a kind stage appearance, stage shtick humor and crowd interaction acceptable for all ages. Taking it to the next level, Flashback Heart Attack adds a unique dimension to their performance with a relentless hi energy stage show, unmatched look, musical talent, personality and professionalism with all songs sounding uncanny to the original. Flashback will take you back to the future and keep the dance floor packed and wedding entertained with favorites from Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Devo, Journey and many others.

Flashback Heart Attack has not only won our hearts, but several other hearts as well:

  • Won 2012 “Best Rock Band” honors from the OC Weekly
  • Currently up for Best Tribute 2013 – OC Music Awards
  • Regularly play at many of the biggest events in the United States and abroad, including a recent performance at the Phoenix Open Golf Tournament for 10k people with Black Eyed Peas and Will.I.Am
  • Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback, Ben Rothlisberger flew the band out to perform at his charity event in Pennsylvania.

Highlights:

  • Headlined St Regis Monarch Bay 2012 NYE Decades of James Bond Black Tie event for sold out 2k people.
  • Headlined OC Fairgrounds 2011 NYE Blockparty for over 8k people
  • Headlined Saturday night Phoenix Open Birds Nest for 9k people in February 2012
  • Headlined Ghostbar Palms NYE 2010 sharing the night with Maroon5
  • US Olympic Ski Team flying Flashback out to NYC to play an event in 2013.

Top Five Questions to Ask the Ceremony Venue

Your engaged, and now it is time to find the perfect ceremony venue for your big day. Your ceremony is a really special part of the day, because this is the part where you actually get married. You are announced Mr. and Mrs.in front of  your closest friends and family.  It is a really intimate moment. So choosing the right ceremony venue is key to creating that perfect ambience for you and your guests. Every bride and groom wants to create a lasting memory when they become husband and wife.

So, once you have found the ceremony venue that you love,  it is best to find out a little more about the venue and make sure all your questions are answered. So grab a notepad and a pen and get ready to ask away!

There are some very important questions to ask, however let’s take a look at the top five:

  • Fees:  You have a budget set for each element of your wedding, and this is an important question to ask. What is the fee for renting the venue and what does that include? You really want to make sure that you are provided a list to look at. Along with the fee, ask how much deposit is required and when will the remaining balance is due?  It is also a good idea to ask, What is the refund policy?
  • Equipment: What equipment is included with the fee of the ceremony space. You find out because you want to know if you will have to bring in the rental items, and if not, how much more it will cost to add those in.  For example: microphones, microphone stand, PA system, candelabras, organ, etc. This is a good time to also ask if there is a changing room for the bride and groom.
  • Room Capacity:  What is the guest capacity in the ceremony space? If you have 300 guests attending the ceremony, and the space can only accommodate 100, then this is something to consider. However, some couples will invite only part of the guest list to the ceremony space and this always helps with lowering the number of guests at the ceremony. So if you are really in love with the space, but can not have all 300 guests at your ceremony, then invite your closest friends and family only.
  • Requirements/Policies: What are the insurance requirements?, if any? Are there any restrictions on candles, flowers, and other decorations? How early can set up start? Are there any rules? For example, rose petals, rice tossing, or taking photographs?
  • Officiant:  Does the venue offer an officiant? Will the officiant be available for the rehearsal? If officiant is not offered at venue, are there any requirements of the officiant?

The more information you gather, will make you feel more comfortable and easier to make a final decision about booking your ceremony venue.

Good luck!

Roswell Wedding from Famous William Photography

All I have to say about this wedding is: DIY, GORGEOUS, and SWEET. I am amazed by all the incredible personal touches that this couple brought to their wedding. It is fun, full of joy, and style savvy. I have to admit, I want to shrink myself to a two dimensional version of myself and live in these photos. Which by the way, were all beautifully captured by Famous William Photography.

From Famous William Photography…

Meet Katie and David. Their wedding venue was Roswell River Landing. They had a wedding theme of “Garden Party” and their colors were blue and yellow. The majority of their wedding was entirely DIY. For example: They provided all of the decorations. Katie cut the flowers from their own garden, she made the boutonnieres for the men, she did her own hair and make up, and she also made her jewelry (necklace and earrings).  Katie told us,”We tried to either make or find (in second hand or vintage shops) our wedding details – the rest were family or personal mementos we have collected from trips. We wanted everything to feel personal and this is what helped us achieve that goal!” – Not only was their wedding decorating details done by them, but David made their wedding bands out of wood, and they’re beautiful!! In addition to this, Katie’s engagement ring didn’t contain a diamond. Instead, it contained moissanite, which is only found in tiny amounts on the surface of meteorites. It was designed by “Down to the Wire Designs”. Beautiful!
