The shoot took place in the India House which is located in the “stone street historic district” of NYC. We wanted to create a wedding that might have actually happened in the 1920s as this venue has retained its historic beauty. We had a variety of gorgeous gowns and headpieces that reflected the style of that era. Our wide eyed bride looked perfect in this style as did our handsome groom. Our style was carried throughout the shoot from the casting of the models to the invitations, flowers and everything in between. “My eye is always drawn to the details, whether it be the brides beautiful eyes or the flowers she holds.  I love to stay creative, this shoot was a joy to put together.”

Top Five Tips for Announcing your Engagement Online

You said yes! Congratulations, you beautiful bride! Before you hit ‘upload’ and type out ‘He liked it so he put a ring…’, read our top five tips for e-nnouncing your engagement. Trust us- you don’t want to be that girl. We’ll help you keep the energy alive and the buzz going until you walk down the aisle.

Take Some ‘We’ Time

Before you start calling your girlfriends, parents, ex-boyfriends (kidding!), and anyone else, just stop and enjoy the moment. Treat it like a long romantic date- leave your phones at home and just take time to enjoy being with the person that wants to marry you. Don’t worry about not spreading the word the moment it happens- all those ‘likes’ will be there tomorrow!

Slowly Spread Word

When you’re ready to let other people know about the big news, pick who you tell first. Some people may be sensitive if they don’t hear from you first. As a general rule, you’ll want to tell your immediate family and anyone in your bridal party first. You wouldn’t want any of your future bridesmaids to find out that you got engaged by scrolling through their newsfeed. If you live close enough to your loved ones, it’s acceptable to show up and tell them the good news. You can also arrange for an impromptu brunch or drinks nearby to show off the ring. If your inner circle is a little farther away, a phone call will do- but try to at least skype! An engagement needs some imagery to it- which brings us to our next point.

Pics or it Didn’t Happen

Ready for the general public? Make sure you debut your new status in the best way possible! This is one of the chances you have to take as many selfies (or couplies!) as you can until they’re absolutely perfect. Make sure that the first picture of the new engaged you speaks to you and your fiance as a couple- if you’re silly, be silly! If you’re romantic and sweet, show it off in your selfie. There’s just one big rule- you HAVE to show off the ring.

Think Long Term

Before you throw in #RandomHashtags into your post, think about what you’re going to want to look back on. Saying something simple about the engagement is usually a safe bet- talk about how long you’ve been together or just how much you love each other. Skip “this ring is bae” and go for something that will give you butterflies in five years.

Mass Blast

Want to get the news out there to everyone? Link all the posts! Just use instagram and link your twitter and facebook- it’ll get your message out all at once so all your friends will have the opportunity to see it at the same time. This takes care of you going through to make sure no stone was left unturned and maximizes the visibility of your announcement.

From Marianne Wiest Photography

This sweet, cute and goofy couple had a cold and snowy, but absolutely beautiful wedding in Missoula, Montana.  Luckily they were used to the cold since they are from Nome, Alaska!

Jake and Kaley have known each other for 10 years. They met in Kalispell, MT, and were friends through mutual friends. Kaley was in a relationship at the time, so was not interested in more than a friendship. Jake moved to Alaska and they went our separate ways. They didn’t have contacted for 4 years. One night, Kaley’s friend Sara was trying to set her up with a friend. We talked about relationships and Kaley mentioned how she and Jake always had a connection. They spent the night on google looking for info and pictures of Jake. The next day, Sara called the last known bank he had worked at and pretended he did a loan for her. Reluctantly, the bank gave her his number because he had moved to Fairbanks. She called him and told him he needed to get in touch with Kaley. Jake called later that week and they began a long distance relationship for 2 years until Kaley moved to Alaska.

One of Kaley’s favorite things to do in Nome is to comb the beach for sea glass along the Bering Sea. It was in May and she was leaving for Montana the next day to spend the summer with family. Jake and Kaley went to collect sea glass on the beach. As they were walking along collecting glass, Jake got down and said “I think I found a piece of glass you will really like” Kaley looked down and he was on one knee with a wedding ring. Of course I couldn’t believe he was proposing right before she was leaving but she was so happy that they were going to get married. I said “yes”

They began planning a winter wedding in Missoula, Montana, which was close to both of their families.  They figured a Christmas/winter wedding would be convenient for family that had time off of work were traveling home for the holidays.

Although the blizzard made for bad driving conditions, the snow added a beautiful element to the photos.  And the 1953 Chevy, restored by the groom’s father, was an added bonus as a prop!  Jake’s dad Gerry rebuilt the truck from the ground up. The exact same model driven by 3 generations in Jake’s family.

Instead of a cake, the couple had a local bakery make blueberry pies out of blueberries they had handpicked and brought with them all the way from Alaska.  This way they could have a little bit of Alaska with them in Montana.

The bride chose natural colors that go along with burlap, eggplant, blush, and other natural tones. She wanted the wedding feel to be antique, the shabby chic with the lace and burlap. Instead of bouquets, the flower girls walked down the aisle with vintage fans.

On all of the wine bottles were from a book of love poems that the bride’s great grandma had given her mom. The lace, broaches in the bouquet and the gloves were from the bride’s great grandma. The bride’s mom made the bouquet and the bride made the boutonneires.

Top Five Under the Weather Bride Activities

Is it just us, or is this season especially bad? We’re all bundled up in jammies and blankets over here, but are you brides doing alright? If you’ve got some big things coming up but are feeling under the weather, no worries. We’ve got five fun things for you to do while you’re sick that will keep you on track and get you feeling better.

Mask Yourself

If you’re stuck at home for a few days, might as well make the most of it and get pretty. Since you have the time, do at-home hair and face masks. If you feel crafty, go ahead and do a hand and/or foot mask. You may not feel cute when you’re stuffy and sniffly, but you can help smooth out your skin and hair! Skip anything that has too many chemicals in it- keep it organic and au natural so you don’t risk any irritation.

Pre-Plan the After Party

If your head is on straight enough to get through some planning fun, start checking out honeymoon travel. There are a TON of great deals right now, and if you’re feeling like daydreaming this is the perfect bedrest activity. Check out deal sites like Expedia and Kayak, but also compare it to booking directly with the airline. Take the time to get deep into reviews online of resorts and different cities so you know exactly what kind of honeymoon you’ll have.

Make a List (to Check Twice!)

You can also take this time to get organized for anything you’ll need to follow up on after the big day. Take you guest list and create an excel workbook with everyone that’s invited so you have a checklist for when you create thank you notes. When you receive a gift from someone, just log in what they got you next to their name and when the time comes you’ll have a super easy way of referencing what to thank your guests for! It can also be handy to do the same for all the vendors you use- write down who they are, what they did for you, and how much you owe them. It’ll help you keep track of any checks you write or payments you make.

Do Serious Research

If you’re still in planning stages, do the most productive kind of lazy day tv watching- make it wedding research! If you’re all curled up on the couch kind of sick, skip Orange is the New Black and check out wedding shows! We love Say Yes To The Dress and wedding episodes of our favorite sitcoms (Lily and Marshall’s wedding on How I Met Your Mother anyone?). It may not look like you’re working, but doing research like this can totally pay off! Watching other weddings can help you decide what you want and don’t want at yours (plus it’s an excuse to watch lots of Netflix).

Network from Bed

If you have vendors to reach out to, now is a great time to shoot out emails! Most people are available during working business hours, so if you’re skipping your job for the day, you’re in prime time to catch people at theirs! If your throat is sore or you have that raspy thing going on, it may be smart to notate in your email that you can’t talk just yet but prefer email communication. If you have the time, you can get different prices on things like your goodie bags, bridal party gifts, food, etc. Use this time to make sure you’re up to date with all of your vendors if you already have some picked out. Following up with others makes sick time productive!

Irvine Regional Park Engagement Session

I will always be a fan of the fall season. Its hard for me to move forward to winter, especially when you have a super gorgeous fall engagement session from Jaime Davis Photography. I have also become a fan of this adorable couple and the love they obviously have for each other. All I imagine are big hearts just popping out from each and every image.  This e-session features the loveliest details, and honestly most of them are from the couple. Yes, the backdrops are full of stunning fall trees and beautiful surroundings, but when you have a couple as darling as these two, all you can focus on is them and their love. They are so darn cute! Of course when you have Jaime Davis Photography  there to capture it all, the session is even more breathtaking.  It is no wonder I am a bit obsessed today, as all the gorgeous photographs are keeping me busy on this Monday morning. It is sessions like this one that makes me love what I do even more everyday. I do not know about you, but I am going to grab another cup of coffee and browse through these amazing photos just one more time. Enjoy and Happy Monday!

From Jaime Davis Photography

Meet Adrienne and Robert. I knew Adrienne from working with her a venue where she worked. She was always so sweet and lovely to work with. When I found out she got engaged, I was thrilled! Then of course when they asked me to be their photographer, I was honored.  Adrienne and Robert wanted a fall themed engagement session. We found the perfect location at Irvine Regional Park! When we arrived I thought it was going to rain pretty hard, but the weather cleared up and I was able to capture some amazing shots. The whole session was super fun with these two, and just a total blast. Congrats Adrienne and Robert!

Intimate Outdoor Southern Wedding

Lace never gets old in my book. This pretty Southern wedding has all the lace that I love and more.  In addition to lace, this Southern bride  loves horses, and all things simple and Southern. This gorgeous couple share personal vows with their small guest count surrounded by lovely trees in a quaint  setting.  Then you have a photographer like Brandy Angel Photography who is there to capture all the lovely details. This wedding is just beautiful in every detail. I can go and on about this Southern wedding, but I think the stunning images speak for themselves. Enjoy!!

A few words from the bride…

The Love story:  We met through a mutual acquaintance in 2009. I was in a relationship at the time so we were just friends for a year before we started dating. We would bump into each other everywhere throughout that year and Matt would tell his buddies that, “one day that girls gonna be my girlfriend.” So after numerous attempts of him asking me out and getting turned down he deleted my number from his phone. At the end of that year, when I became single again, I thought about Matt and decided to reach out to him. His response was,”who is this again?” Haha I knew I probably deserved that for all the neglect I had given him. Our first date was that night, I asked him out to a new fine dining restaurant called Three Forks. I quickly realized how much we had in common and that he had spent four summers on the lake I grew up on in Alabama which is rare to find when you are living 7 hours away from home. He asked me to go out of town with him that weekend to his families place in Crystal River and that’s where we both fell completely in love! He made me swim with manatees which was a real treat for a small town Alabama girl like me. That weekend is when we decided we were Lobsters, and would be soulmates for life. We even ironically found a wooden sign that says “Lobsters” that is still to this day hanging in our kitchen. I knew he would be my husband one day.

The Proposal: He proposed on November 8, 2013. I was about to renew another years lease on my apartment even though I spent most of my time at his house. I came straight to his house from work that day with a hope that was crushed. I desperately wanted him to propose but I had accepted that it wasn’t going to happen. He asked me to come sit on the back porch with him and watch the sunset which we did often. It’s one of our favorite spots overlooking dutton island. I told him about my day and rambled on as usual. He was pacing around, couldn’t sit still which was also usual so I didn’t think anything of it. Then he said,” I have a surprise for you little Susie.” (It’s a nickname) long story. I responded,” Oh please tell me it’s a garage door opener!” Haha the garage door had been broken for quite some time. He found that amusing and went along with it. He said I was right and he was gonna go get the opener to show me. When he came back he told me to close my eyes and he got down on one knee. He told me to open my eyes and simply asked,”I want to watch sunsets with you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?”

The Wedding: We wanted to be engaged for a while. We knew we weren’t going to do a big wedding and even talked about eloping. About four days shy of one year later we decided on a private family wedding. Very small and quant, 17 people including the bride and groom. It was perfect timing.

Top Five Bridal Beauty Tips for Winter Weather

Brrr, it’s cold out there! It’s still chilly and will stay chilly for a few more weeks, are you prepared? If you’ve got your wedding or any wedding events on the horizon you’re going to need to be prepared to weather the weather (see what we did there?). Our top five tips will keep you looking perfect, no matter how pretty or ugly the weather can get.

Seal your Look

BHL2.jpg.jpg

If you’re afraid that the rain or humidity outside will melt your makeup, do your part and seal it in. Start with a primer that stays put (we love the primers by Too Faced and Smashbox) before you do your makeup, and when you’re done use a sealing spray (like Model in a Bottle or Urban Decay). The sealers will hold all the color in place and keep your look from melting away. They’re perfect for day long events (like your rehearsal day or for the big day) or before you go out for an epic night.

Lip Butter Base

BHL3.jpg.jpg

If the cold makes your skin that much more sensitive, you need to do what you can to keep your skin soft! Before you do your big bold red lips (that we are LOVING this Winter), swipe on a layer of moisturizing lip balms. We love Chapstick, EOS lip balms, and the Jack Black lip balms. Try swiping on some lip balm, doing all of your makeup and saving your lip color for last so the moisturizer absorbs into your lips. It’s also a great idea to swipe on a hearty amount of lip balm before you to go sleep. Trust us, you’ll wake up to the softest lips ever!

Liquid Liner

BHL5.jpg.jpg

Liquid liner tends to have more lasting power than the pencil liners- when they dry they’re seriously stuck there until you clean your face. We love the pencil liquid liners because they’re easy to swipe on quickly and give you a lot of control when you apply. The Marc Jacobs liner is fantastic, but a splurge. If you’re on a budget, the Ulta brand liquid liner pen is a great value and stays put all day.

Liquid Concealer

BHL4.jpg.jpg

If you’re hiding bags under your eyes or even some cold time breakouts, switch out our concealer for something liquid to keep your skin from drying out. If you have a blemish or a breakout, you’ll still need to keep your skin moisturized. We love the Kat von D Tattoo Concealer because it keeps your skin from drying out but also hides imperfections and breakouts like a champ.

Moisturizing Removers

BHL1.jpg.jpg

Moisturizing should extend past your makeup- you should keep it in mind even while you’re taking your makeup off! We love the Neutrogena hydrating makeup wipes this time of year because it gets off every bit of makeup on your skin without drying your skin out. The cold can be so harsh that you need to sneak in those bits of moisture wherever you can!

Southern Vintage Wedding

When you have a Southern bride, you know her wedding is going to be a pretty one.  This wedding has all my boxes checked for a beautiful Southern Vintage Wedding. This wedding is complete with some of the loveliest vintage details. From the adorable outdoor swing, the charming tree stumps at the ceremony, the stunning lush and red blooms, the adorable flower girls, the dreamy dress, the cute cowboy boots, and the lovely venue; this wedding is a true Southern beauty. As a non-Southern gal, I am so obsessed with this wedding. I  just can not handle how pretty this wedding is, and then you have Brandy Angel Photography on hand to capture it all and I am officially hooked.  I am thinking of getting myself a pair of cowboy boots to kick off my Southern love of this wedding. The gorgeous bride and her maids really have me in love with the idea of getting me a pair. Top Five 2015 Resolutions for Brides

Happy New Year! Now that you’re caught up and have cleaned all the 2015 confetti out of your NYE outfit, it’s time to get down to business. If 2015 is your year to tie the knot, you’ve got a whole lot of fun ahead of you, and we’re here to help. We’ve got our resolutions that are extra important for you to follow this year to have an amazing year, wedding, and rest of your life!

Go to the Dentist

I know, I know- it’s scary. It’s not fun. It’s kind of the stuff of nightmares and it usually can cause some pain. But you know what’s more painful? Yellow, crooked teeth full of tartar and cavities in your wedding photos. Now that the year has reset, many insurance plans reset so this is the best time to get back into the groove of things. If it makes you feel better, take off work and leave mid-Friday to go to the dentist and treat yourself to a slightly longer weekend. If you’re too nervous to go alone (or anticipate some laughing gas or pain killers), task one of your bridesmaids to tag along. The dentist is always a must- and if you find a good one it can seriously make the chore really easy. While you’re there, be sure to schedule a whitening a few days before your big day too.

Drink More Water

This is such an easy win you’ll wonder why it’s not on your resolution list to begin with. Water flushes all the icky stuff out of your system, clear up your skin, slim your waist, and overall just make your life better. You’ll even save money when you go out! If you hit the town at night and drink, have a glass of water to match your adult drinks and it’ll keep you from feeling icky or dehydrated the next day. It’s a lifesaver and it’ll get your body into an amazing place for your big day.

Ditch the Tan

You should NEVER hit the tanning booths (it will destroy your skin, and seriously put a dent in your health!), and this year you should try to stop doing the fake tan thing too. Enjoy your regular skin and keep it real! Fake tans can be pricey, and if you’ve got a wedding and a honeymoon coming up you’re going to need to save up some cash. Fake tans can also get everywhere and stain your clothes- that’s no fun. Skip the skin tints and enjoy your natural glow!

Say ‘Thank You’ More

This may have been the big buzz in November, but we feel like it should be a year-round state of mind. If you’re not sure how to resolve to do this, start by committing to sending thank you notes once a week. These can be little hand-written cards or a phone call, but just make sure that they are personal. Saying thank you more will instantly remind you of everything that you have and how awesome the people in your life are. Also be sure to say thank you to your vendors and everyone you’re working with for the big day! They’re doing a lot to help your perfect day be perfect- that’s definitely worth being thankful for.

Stack Cash When you Can

Weddings are expensive (duh) so when you can, save money! That can be a big range of things like not picking up that extra pack of gum or soda at the grocery store, or skipping a cab and calling an uber instead. If you have some time during the day, call your bank and credit card companies and ask for lower APR rates (it works- try it!) and higher credit limits. Reassess what you own and sell off or donate what you don’t need anymore. Save as much money as you can this year and you’ll be surprised what you’ll be able to afford by the end of it (hello upgraded honeymoon suite!).
