Sneak Peek of TLC’s “Something Borrowed, Something New” Episode: March 22nd

Spring is here and we are in love. We are also in love with Fridays. We are excited for this week’s episode of TLC’s, “Something Borrowed, Something New”. Have you been watching? It is such a fun and amazing show. If you have not been watching and want to learn more, then let us tell you. This show follows a bride’s journey to find the perfect wedding dress for her big day. However there is a twist! The bride will have to choose a new designer bridal gown, or a fashionably redesigned family heirloom. Who will help the bride find something new and something borrowed for her special day? Each episode is hosted by designer Kelly Nishimoto and stylist Sam Saboura, who will work with the bride to help choose between two dress options. Kelly will turn a special, previously worn gown into a gown which is for the time, venue, and personality of the bride. The bride will also have a chance to work with Sam in shopping at a bridal salon to find a brand new stylish dress. What happens next? The bride will have to make a very important decision and choose between a one-of-a kind dress and a newly fashionable piece. Will the bride choose her mother’s or grandmother’s wedding gown, or find something new and unique to her? Which one will the bride choose? How will she make her decision? It is a hard one!

DSCF5080Tonight’s episode features a bride who is looking for that perfect dress which is classic and traditional, without showing too much. This bride wants a more modest look, but her mother wants her to show off some skin.

What about her mother’s second bridal gown that she wore on her wedding day? The simple dress does not have the all that the bride is looking for to compliment her classic vintage wedding. However, can Kelly transform this sentimental dress into something modest yet fabulous for the bride?  Will Sam find a dress which covers the bride up?  Or will the bride go with something that shows off her skin? Which gown will the bride choose to wear on her big day? Will it be something borrowed, or something new? Will it be as modest as she imagined ir would be? Tune in tonight to find out.

TLC’s Something Borrowed, Something New airs Friday at 10/9c. So set your DVR’s, or watch it live tonight!

Four Proper Grooming Tips for the Groom

On the day of the wedding, being properly groomed is priority number one for any groom. How ridiculous does it sound if the groom isn’t groomed, right? There are plenty of good reasons to make sure you are properly groomed, the first being that you should want to look your best for the bride. Past that, you’ll be taking photos that you and your wife will be keeping for the rest of your lives, so every a groom should want look his best in those or regret it for a very long time. If you’re a groom or you just want to make sure your groom is on top of his business, check out this handy list of four proper grooming tips for the groom.

Tip 1: Shave the morning of the wedding

Not all guys shave every day and if you do not, make sure you time your shaving pattern to allow yourself to shave the day of the wedding. This way you look clean, sharp and ready for the big day. Nothing says buzz-kill more than a face full of stubble! Also make sure you use a brand new razor to avoid razor burn and cuts which can seriously detract from the facial experience. If you really want to go all out, take the boys to the local barber shop and get an old fashioned shave. You’ll be surprised how clean you feel and it’s a nice bonding activity with the groomsmen. If you tend to get a five o’clock shadow, you might want to bring an electric razor (the one that oozes gel) to keep yourself spiffy later in the evening.

Tip 2: Make sure your hands and nails are trimmed and clean

While it’s frankly outside of the world of reality for most men to get manicures, the wedding day might be the one time where even the most macho of men will agree to get one. This is an activity that can happen a day before the wedding and can even be done with the bride-to-be. Having clean and neat hands will be important because the hands will be the focal point for many pictures, as well as the big moment where you exchange and wear rings.

Tip 3: Body hair should be under control

Let’s face it, body hair isn’t really ideal these days. Whether you decide to take off your shirt during the ceremony with all that dancing, or later on in the evening, your body hair situation should be under control. It doesn’t mean you need to wax your entire body, it just means you need to be nice and neat. This is another grooming step that can happen the day before the wedding. Also make sure you use the right tools for the job, many electric razor companies sell specific devices for body hair at national retail stores. Trust me, the last thing you want is a SNAFU involving body hair removal.

Tip 4: The Haircut

Be sure you have your hair cut and styled the way you want it. This means that you’ll need to carefully consider the timing of your haircut before the wedding. The rule of thumb is to get the haircut about a week before the wedding, but no later than three days before the big day. This allows your hair to grow back a little bit but still have that nice form coming out of the salon.

Weddings at Dana Point Yacht Club

It is a sweet Monday here at BHL. I live for beaches and weddings, and when they come together, it makes my heart happy. But, today I am more than happy, I am tickled pink about the fabulous venue in the little beach town of Dana Point, California. The small beach, tide pools, boats sailing, and breathtaking views of the ocean evokes nostalgic memories of my childhood and youth.

Dana Point Yacht Club sits on the end of the harbor with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, surrounding bluffs, and the Dana Point Harbor.  A beach wedding without the sands and the hassle of  permits, this venue offers a picturesque setting for couples and their guests. Dana Point Yacht Club is the perfect venue for a romantic, beachside wedding.

Imagine your ceremony on the private outdoor patio overlooking the gorgeous water. You can have your ceremony or reception inside the beautiful ballroom with floor to ceiling windows showing off the stunning ocean views. Right outside the ballroom, is a patio perfect for guests to lounge or enjoy cocktails and appetizers. Whatever location you choose, you will have all the incredible ocean views.

Dana Point Yacht Club offers a fabulous caterer with a wide variety of menu options for you and your guests.

If you want a wedding with the ocean as your backdrop, without the sky-high prices, and  unforgettable memories for you and your guests, then you should consider the Dana Point Yacht Club for your wedding event!

TLC’s Four Weddings Winning Bride: March 15th

Who was the winning bride from Friday’s TLC’s “Four Weddings” show? Emma! Her French Quarter bling wedding scored her a total of 90 points out of 120 points. Here is the breakdown.

Venue: 22 points
Dress:  30 points
Experience: 22 points
Food: 16 points

The other three brides really liked Emma’s dress the best.  She scored the highest points in this category.  Her dress was absolutely stunning!  A trumpet style dress with a sweetheart neckline with beading on top and throughout the dress. The bottom of the dress is lace and flows beautifully to the floor.  Emma’s dress fit her perfectly and really complimented her French Quarter and bling wedding theme. Simply gorgeous!

Congrats to Emma for winning an all expenses paid honeymoon. After all the planning of her amazing bling French quarter themed wedding, the couple is now ready to pack their bags and have a relaxing honeymoon on the shores of Mexico.

Here is a look back at Emma’s wedding:

TLC’s Four Weddings Episode Recap: March 15th

Did you watch last night’s episode of “Four Weddings” on TLC?  What are your thoughts of the four brides and their New Orleans weddings? What details stood out for you? If you missed it, we have a recap of the episode:

Who are the Brides?: TLC

  • Joanna, a bride who shares her Mardi Grass family traditions with her guests at her wedding. The day starts off with the ceremony inside a grand room, featuring tall ceilings, beautiful chandeliers, a balcony, and a unique aisle runner.  At the ceremony spot, the white tiered cake with red roses stands tall. Joanna enters the ceremony coming down the stairs from the balcony. Her laced dress with tied satin sash fits her beautifully as she walks down the staircase.  The reception space is in the same room as the ceremony, and there was minimal decor. The centerpieces were tall vases with white orchids on top. After enjoying a mashed potato bar, and spicy gumbo, a special surprise arrives. The Mardi Grass Indians arrive to perform. They featured her father, her uncle and other family members. The second line comes and brings guests to dance and wave their red napkins around. A good time indeed.
  • Emma, a Southern bride who loves bling and wants to give her guests the feel of the French Quarters. The wedding takes place in the evening at an outside space which gave a French Quarter feel. The ceremony featured balconies, old world lanterns, white flowers, and a beautiful iron gazebo with white draping and bling. After a special and touching ceremony, guests are welcome to the reception space. The French Quarter look continues into the reception room. There are guest tables up on the balconies and each table features a rhinestone decorated vase with white and pink flowers on top of a lighted platform. All around the reception space a touch of bling is found. From cake, to buffet stations, to the wedding dress. After dinner, Emma and her groom along with their guests danced the night away. The second line band entered the room, and guests followed right behind and danced their way to the outside area.  The night ended with sparklers as the guests bid  farewell to the bride and groom.
  • Brittany  is a princess bride who loves sweets. The wedding is set at a castle and the ceremony space takes place right outside the castle. The ceremony colors were red and white. The ceremony had white benches, a white aisle runner with red roses lining the outsides, branches tied with red ribbon down the aisle, and red rose balls hanging off the pews. After sharing personal vows, they tie the knot, and ready to celebrate with their guests. Inside the castle, the reception is decorated with red and white colors, white linens with white chairs and red  sashes. The guest tables featured a centerpiece made up of a rhinestone decorated base with a branch and red flowers. After a buffet style dinner, guests stopped by the candy station featuring red and white colored candies.
  • Anitra a bride who holds religion close to her heart, but also wants to party at her wedding. Her ceremony takes place at the church where she grew up at. Inside the church, it was decorated with white roses, white candle stands with candles, and white tulle. After a traditional Baptist ceremony, guests enter the reception space. Each table had a tall vase with a full red rose centerpiece. The dinner buffet offered traditional New Orleans food stations. The wedding favors were going fast like hot cakes. The wedding favors were small King’s cakes. The second line band showed up with bride and groom, and gathered guests to join them for all the fun and celebrating. Umbrellas and all.

A Hot Detail:  There was one detail from each wedding that stood out for me. What I thought was super sweet at Joanna’s wedding was the  family dance that was performed. Joanna and her groom with their children performed a special dance for all their guests. I thought this was so sweet and fun for all of them to do together. Very cute! What I absolutely loved at Emma’s wedding was the one site artist that painted a picture of the venue with the bride and groom and their guests. I thought this was something very unique and personal. What a great way to create a memory piece from Emma and her groom’s wedding day. Very special! I loved Brittany’s wedding cake. It was an all white tiered cake with some fairytale details. There was a horse and carriage, a glass slipper,  Cinderella and Prince Charming figurines, and a castle. So cute and perfect for a fairytale wedding. I adored it! I was head over heels for Anitra’s wedding gown. It was fitted on top a had chiffon ruffles at the bottom, and touches of bling. It fit her so beautifully, and she looked absolutely gorgeous. A definite show stopper!

The winner, Emma

The winner, Emma

Who won?: Congrats to Emma for winning!  She and her husband won an all expenses paid honeymoon to the Mexico.   I was not at all surprised about Emma winning. I loved all the details of her wedding. While I can not account for the food,  I thought that the venue, dress, originality, and overall theme exceeded the rest.  She pulled off the French Quarter theme with a touch a bling in the most elegant way. The bling was not too over the top, but had just enough to make a sparkle.  Bianca looked beautiful and seemed that her and her guests had a great time. For sure a wedding that I wish I could have attended!  Amazing job Emma!  So how did the other three brides score? Joanna came in second, Anitra in third, and Brittany in fourth. Were you surprised by the results? Love to hear from you, so please share!

Stay tuned to Bridal Hot List  for more TLC updates on wedding themed show.
