Top Seven Unique Thanksgiving Wedding Ideas

Thanksgiving is a time to gather together with family and friends and celebrate the things we are most thankful for. Oh, and, of course, stuff ourselves silly with delicious food! It makes complete sense then that so many couples are deciding to get married around Thanksgiving. These top seven tips will ensure that your wedding day is classy and beautiful, and not something that resembles an elementary Thanksgiving Day pageant parade. No Pilgrim hats and feathered headbands, please!

Invites and Save the Dates

One of the most important things to keep in mind when planning a holiday-centric wedding is that many friends will want to spend the holiday with their own families. The way to overcome this is to send our your Save the Dates as soon as you possibly can! Thanksgiving weddings, though, do offer the additional bonus of most of your guests already having time off of work for the holiday.

Location

Thanksgiving is the epitome of autumnal beauty, so choosing either an outside venue—or a venue that can give you plenty of gorgeous fall landscapes—is the way to go. The rich fall colors, the bounty of fallen leaves, and the forgiving temperatures of fall, all make for a perfect outdoor wedding.

Décor

Let nature dictate the décor for your ceremony and reception! Think of woodsy and rustic themes, allowing yourself to be inspired by trees, feathers, bird’s nests, and fallen leaves. Stay away from cheap Thanksgiving decorations: no miniature cornucopias or turkey designs cut out of construction paper. Evoke the meaning of the season by placing decorative and rustic chalkboards around the venue, allowing people to write down what they are most thankful for. If you are opting for an outdoor wedding, have the chalkboards perched in the middle of the tables. You want your ceremony and reception to look easeful and natural, almost as if it’s an enchanted autumnal forest. Having an elaborately decorated and stuffy reception just doesn’t suit the meaning of Thanksgiving.

Food

Food is the highlight of Thanksgiving, so make sure that your food is the highlight of your reception! You can always choose a more traditional Thanksgiving meal to serve your guests, or, if you’re concerned that your guests will already have had their fill of turkey from their own Thanksgiving celebrations, you can always serve traditional family dishes with a twist—Gruyere mac and cheese with bacon, apple stuffed pork chops, bourbon chocolate pecan pie, etc. Garnish your wedding cake with a few autumnal touches, and place it atop a tree stump cake stand.

Flowers

Don’t be afraid to branch out (pun intended) from using exclusively flowers in your bouquet or centerpieces. Acorns, branches, and fall leaves can all make gorgeous additions to any flower arrangement.

Dress

Keep your dress classic and easeful. Thanksgiving is about the comfort of being with family, friends, and food! An overly embroidered and corseted gown will clash with your themes of nature and ease.

Favors

Favors should always be edible or useful, and since it is Thanksgiving, edible is the way to go! Miniature pies, bottles of maple syrup, maple candy, and miniature bottles of pumpkin ale all make for festive favors that your guests will surely appreciate.

Five 2013 Winter Wedding Beauty Trends

As much as we love the fall season and all the lovely details it brings, we get all hyped up when we know that Winter is right around the corner. The weather may be colder, but there are some hot new wedding trends to keep us going. Winter weddings are so pretty with some of the most elegant, romantic, and chic details. To compliment such a charming affair, we asked hair expert and friend, Gina Ludwig who is the director and owner of Hair Comes the Bride, to share the hottest winter beauty trends.Whether you’re a bride, a  bridesmaid or simply the guest of honor at a wedding this winter, we’ve got the perfect wedding beauty trends for you.

DeepLips

  •  Deep Lips

While summer is all about pinks and pastels, Winter is the perfect time to be a little daring with a deep berry or burgundy lip. Just remember that in order to keep your look timeless and to avoid a stark “to done” look, keep the rest of your makeup clean and minimal.

 StatementPiece

  • Bold Statement Pieces

Winter is also the perfect time to be a little bold with a stunning statement piece. A statement piece is one accessory or piece of jewelry that stands out and makes a statement.  Again, just like with your makeup, you don’t want to overdo it. So, make sure if you choose to wear a bold statement piece that you keep it to just one, and the rest of your accessories are on the more understated side.

 RedHeels

  • Pop of Red

Winter is the perfect time to add a pop of color to your wedding day look.  Try a deep red or burgundy sash or maybe a fabulous pair of red rhinestone shoes like these ones by Christian Louboutin. Want to keep your wedding on the more timeless, elegant side? Then you may want to stick to a more formal look to walk down the aisle and then surprise your guests by changing into a gorgeous red gown for the reception.

11

  • Sophisticated Updo

Casual “undone” hairstyles may be perfect for a summer beach or spring garden wedding but your winter weddings are going to typically call for a hairstyle that is on the more sophisticated, formal side.  Try a sleek bun or chignon, or maybe an elegant yet trendy topknot hairstyle to dress up your winter wedding day style.

LaceVeil

  • Lace

Nothing says formality and grace like lace, so winter is the perfect time to choose an elegant lace gown or a romantic lace veil to bring drama, romance and elegance to your winter wedding day look.

Five Ways to Use Your Extra Hour

Happy daylight savings day! Today we are granted a whole extra hour. Sure, it may be tempting to sleep in, but you could be productive. If you’re up and about and ready to take on your extra hour, we’re right there with ya!

Go Over Your Budget

Crunching numbers can be boring, but you’ve got an extra hour so hey- buck up and get it done! Excel sheets are one of the easiest ways to have a financial snapshot of your wedding. If you’re not great with excel, grab a tech savvy friend or watch a few tutorials. It’s quite easy to make spreadsheets that will calculate all your expenses so you can keep track of spending.

Practice Your Looks

Do you know your best angle? Do you know your best smile? Take some time and check yourself out in the mirror! Have a set go-to pose for photos that you know you will feel great doing. If you’d like some tips on how to get your best photo-ready look, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Primp, Primp, Primp

You can use this extra hour for something that will make you feel better now- taking care of yourself! Deep condition your hair or give yourself a sea salt scrub. Doing something small like a blackhead removal strip on your nose can make your face feel instantly fresher. If you want to get more and more detailed, try a more advanced move like a lip exfoliator.

 Partner Up

Take some time with your fiance to talk wedding talk. It can be crazy times right now, and you don’t want to get wrapped up in the chaos of it all. Go out for omelettes with your extra hour and talk about what you love about each other. Treat each other to love letters. Take time to slow down and enjoy being in love with each other.

Plan Ahead

Remember that there’s still wedding work after the wedding! Plan ahead for thank you cards early so you can really kick back and relax after you’re married. If you’re going to use a photo from the wedding ceremony on your thank you cards, plan for it. Think about doing customized stamps with your rings to add a sweet touch. It could also help to have all of your guest’s names and addresses all in one place, like a spreadsheet. that way you can cross off their names when you write thank you cards. Some small prep now will save you time (and maybe a headache!) later.

Sneak Peek of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress” Season 10 Episode 11

Can you believe it is already Friday? Another fabulous week has come to an end here at BHL. Before you head off to start the weekend, I like to share this week’s sneak peek of a new episode of TLC’s  SAY YES TO THE DRESS. This episode is a good one. You will not want to miss. I know I can wait to sit down and enjoy this fun bridal show.  I am always happy when I get to see bridal things. You know how obsessed I am. If you are a SYTTD newbie and want to know what this show is all about, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Read on and see why I love this show so much. Oh, and of course tune in tonight and watch!

The show all takes place at the gorgeous bridal salon, Kleinfeld Bridal in NYC. The show  goes behind-the-scenes  and uncovers the various obstacles every staff member faces to make each bride utterly happy and pleased on what may be the  most important day of her life. The show features not only bridal experts, but emotional brides, opinionated entourages, and dream bridal dresses. At the end of each appointment, the bridal consultant will ask one very important question, “Are you saying Yes to the Dress?”. The answer to this question? You will have to tune in each week to find out.

On tonight’s  episode:

Tonight’s episode features bride-to-be, Donn who is back at the bridal salon for her first fitting. Donn’s big brother is Questlove from The Roots, and he has gifted her a wedding gown for her special day. On this episode, he is with his sister at the salon to see her in her wedding gown for the first time. Donn’s wedding is dreamed up to be a musical theme as she and her fiance are both professional musicians. What will Questlove think of his sister’s bridal gown? Will he be “wowed” by it? You will have to tune in tonight to find out!

“Say Yes To The Dress” is on  tonight at 9/8c. So set your DVR’s, or watch it live tonight!
