Top Five Questions to Ask the Reception Venue

You have found the perfect groom, the perfect dress, and now you are ready to find that perfect venue for your big day. The venue is one of the most important elements of your wedding day. It sets the tone and mood for all other elements to come together. Finding the venue where the style and design meets your needs in every aspect of your wedding ideas is key.  You want to make sure that you are in love with the venue because that is where you will be spending most of the day. So when you are sitting with your newly husband at your sweetheart table, looking out, you will smile and be happy.  You want you and your guests to have have unforgettable memories!

Before booking your perfect venue, there are some questions that you want to consider in asking. We are going to look at the top five questions:

  • Size matters: How many guests can the reception accommodate? If you have a 175 guest count, and the ballroom’s capacity is maxed at 150, this space will not work for your guest count. Also, you want to see if the the dance floor is the appropriate size for the number of guests you will have. A tight dance floor is not so fun, and your guests may not want to be arm to arm with someone who may be a bit sweaty!
  • Suitable for a Wedding: Is the venue suitable for a wedding event? Or does the venue mainly hold meetings as events? You want to make sure that the venue has experience with an event like a wedding which requires many elements.
  • Decor elements What type of decor elements does the venue provide? This is good to know, so that way if needed will need to look for an outside vendor to meet those needs. For example, do they provide chairs, tables, or linens. If so, what colors or styles do they provide?
  • Lights and Camera: A wedding event is like putting together a production and may require some lighting and Audio/Visual elements. A question to ask the venue is up-lighting of various colors available? For the ballroom or reception space, can the lights be dimmed for the special dances? How about the lighting on the food and dessert tables? For any audio/visual: Are there enough outlets for the A/V requirements? Does the venue include a microphone? How about a projector? If you want to show a slide-show, will need to find out if the venue can provide a projector. If not, will need to have an outside vendor bring it in for you.
  • The Facilities: If you are at a venue where they allow for outside catering, you will need to find out if they will provide a kitchen with refrigeration and heating appliances. Dishes and cutlery? If not, then will need to ask if there is a space where the caterer will bring their own kitchen with all required equipment and supplies. Food is one of the most important parts of the reception. If the food is not good, your guests will be hungry and unhappy.

Remember this is your wedding day, and you want it to be one of the most memorable days of your life. So take the time to ask questions! Good luck!
