Three Super Bowl Beauty Tips

This year’s Super Bowl is merely days away, which means all the Super Bowl parties are right around the corner. Whether you and your fiance are going to a party, holding one yourself, or just enjoying the game together, we’ve got ways to show some team spirit in the cutest way. It doesn’t matter what team you’re rooting for either, we’re just here to make sure you look adorable.

Two-Toned Nails

You could do the accent nail, a french mani with team colors, or one of our favorites- the two-toned mani. Do one color as a base color with a glitter top coat over part of your nail (or all of it- up to you!). We tried out the accent colors of both teams, orange for the Broncos and green for the Seahawks, and did a blue glitter shade right over it. Both are bold, fun, and show your team spirit. We love this blue glitter polish by OPI, but any fun light blue would be beautiful.

Pairing Eyeliners

Football is all about teamwork- and so is this awesome look! If you’re adventurous, put on a thick line of the lighter color (orange or green) then do a tight line of blue close to your lashline. If you want to go a little lighter on liner, just do a dab of color on the inside corner of your eye and pair with a dark blue liner instead of your normal brown or black. We love the Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliners ($20, Sephora) and the Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencils ($19, Sephora) for bright, vibrant colors that last through the whole game.

Go for Glitter

If all else fails, grab some glitter! Get together with your girlfriends before the game and go crazy! Dab a touch of orange glitter over your lipstick to be a Bronco beauty or pack on the glitter over your whole eyelid to be a sassy Seahawk. Wear glitter anyway you want, just be sure to stock up on makeup remover for later. We have the Forever 21 glitter palette ($7.80, Forever 21) on retainer for fun events like the Super Bowl. Use it as an accent color in moderation or go all out to show how dedicated you are. If you have enough fun with it, you may be able to get the guys involved in the war paint too!

Five NYE Looks for Wedding Events

Weddings aren’t the only time we get to stay up late and celebrate with champagne. New Year’s Eve is a time of celebrating your accomplishments and looking forward to a brand new year. It’s a time of reflection as well as a time of hope for the upcoming year. Whether you’re heading downtown to watch the ball drop, partying with some friends, or even staying at home for a romantic night, you’ll want to look extra fun for the occasion. We’ve got the goods for you to look your best and start your new year off right, and how to keep these looks rolling through to your next wedding event.

Bling it on

Glitter and sparkle is a NYE staple. The key is to look glamorous, and not like a disco ball. Skip the body glitter as well as any glitter in your blush or bronzer and go straight for the eyes. Put on a creamy primer (like MAC’s cream colour base in Hush, $20, MAC counters), contour your favorite shadows over, and give a few swipes of Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal liner ($19, Sephora) all over it. It’s buildable, so you have the freedom to be as bright as you want to be.  We like the shade ‘Baked’ for a golden eye that will be remembered from the new year and through the reception. This will be perfect for bachelorette parties and more non-traditional weddings.

Lustrous Lips

Line your lips with a wax-based liner to keep them in place, and pick a color you love. Red is classic and timeless (we LOVE ‘F-Bomb’ by Urban Decay, $22, Sephora) and always a great staple to have in your back pocket. Use that liner to keep your lips together through champagne toasts on any night of the year.

Color-Correcting Primer

Do you fall victim to cocktail flush? Does a martini give you a natural blush? Fight back with a color correcting primer under your foundation that leaves the blushing to the bride. Even the medium to heavy coverage foundations can let some redness through after a few cocktails. The Clinique redness solutions primer ($21 , Clinique Counters) is fantastic, lightweight, and keeps us glowing the right way.

Baby-Doll Lashes

Lashes may be too much for the office, but they’re perfect for nights out. Look for lashes that are fuller towards the outside to give a rounding, full effect. This is fun for NYE, or any time out with your bachelorettes. If you’re not super comfortable tossing your lashes on, do a bold black eyeliner on your upper lid first. Get your falsies as close to your natural lash line as possible, and if they don’t line up perfectly use more black liner to cover any mistakes. Many people learn how to apply false lashes using this method. We love Ardell’s false lashes in ‘Wispies’ ($3-$4, drugstores).

Powder for Pictures

There’s going to be flashing lights all night, and it won’t all be from fireworks or the dancefloor. Weddings and holidays are always highly photographed, and you want to be sure you look your best for both. Skip dewy looks that will look greasy for matte looks that will look polished. Have a pressed powder on hand for any oily patches, and dust your face with an HD powder before you head out for the night.

Five Trending Fall Eyeliners

Hi there bridal beauties! Here at Bridal Hot List we’re keeping our eye on trends and we are very pleased to announce the cat eye is back and is more fun than ever before. We’re loving seeing fun twists on the classic cat eye, which you can emulate using any of these five trending eyeliners.

Blue is beautiful, let’s keep that straight. This fall, we’re loving solid cobalt blueliner. We like Covergirl’s Perfect Blend liner in “Cobalt Blue 135” ($5-$6, drugstores) for a royal blue that screams Kate Middleton (even if you’re more of a Pippa). Use the blender on the end of the pencil to create a blended look, or keep the lines bold for bachelorette parties.

If you are more of a Kate than a Pippa, maybe a nude liner would be better for you. Line your lids with a flesh toned kohl for a seriously sleek look. We love Rimmel’s Scandaleyes eyeliner in “Nude 005” ($4, drugstores) because it’s easy to blend but stays only where you want it to be. Doing a trendy cat eye in an unexpected color like nude makes two classics fresh all over again!

One color trend that is absolutely booming this season is deep violets. We love MAC’s Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner in “Almost Noir” ($16, MAC counters) for being bold, deep, and beautiful on all skintones. The color itself is complex and complimentary without being overwhelming to most looks.

If you’re more of a traditionalist, pick up a black liner that lets you easily play with thickness and color saturation. The “Super Skinny Marker” by NYX ($9, beauty supply stores) is easy to handle and can create subtle liner looks or dramatic angel wings with the flick of a wrist. Plus, you can go lighter or harder to create a lighter or darker liner.

A bold powercolor can always be fun. We love “Electric” by Urban Decay ($19, Sephora) as a bold bright blue. For a super trendy Fall liner look, do a thick wing with this blue, then go over it again with a thin black close to your eyelid. Layered eyeliner creates a dramatic, confident look that will be a hit at any bachelorette events you have lined up.

Top Five Wedding Event Scents

A woman’s perfume is like the grown up version of a mood ring- it can change just as often as you do. Perfume works in the same way all of your other beauty routines do- it should change depending on the occasion (silver glitter chunks are fun on Friday night on the dance floor, but not so much Wednesday morning at the office!). Here’s a quick guide on what to wear for your upcoming wedding events.

Bridal Showers

If you’re heading out to a bridal shower, spritz on something girly. Floral scents that sit warm on your skin have a way of feeling extra feminine. You’re going to have some girl fun with your girlfriends- live it up! ‘Ralph’ by Ralph Lauren is a classic sweet floral that sits well with most people. Look for tones similar to apples, cucumbers, rose, and magnolia.

Bachelorette Parties

Hitting the town with your bridal beauties? Reach for a scent that is a little more sexy and fun. Don’t over do it with any intense sharp scents, but do look for scents that have raspberry, grapefruit, and vanilla scents. We love Marc Jacob’s ‘Oh Lola’; it’s sensual without being overpowering or heavy. Plus, if you go light you can wear it during the day and just reapply for night.

Wedding Party Dinner

Going out with the groomsmen? Go light and fresh and fun. It’s a friendly party with the people the bride and groom love and trust the most. Lotus, orchid, and beachy scents are low maintenance and relaxed. MAC’s ‘Turquatic’ scent is like a day at the beach- light, fun, and free. This scent is sure to be a hit the groomsmen and bridesmaids alike.

Wedding Rehearsal

Did you have fun at the wedding party dinner? The rehearsal dinner will be just like that- only a touch more formal. Find a great middle ground between low-key woodsy and fresh and floral to be appropriate for all ages. Clinique’s ‘Happy’ is just that- a happy scent! This scent goes on incredibly light and one of its’ major notes is the Hawaiian wedding flower. That’s gotta be fate, right?

Wedding Day

For the big day, it’s okay to go with whatever makes you feel the most beautiful. Embrace feminine fruity scents that go on light and flirty. Soft scents like pears and jasmine with be sure to make you feel sweet hearted and romantic. A great go-to is Marc Jacob’s ‘Daisy Eau So Fresh’, a lighter more feminine version of Marc Jacob’s classic fragrance, ‘Daisy’.

Top Five Trending Fall Nail Colors

Hey bridal beauties! Fall is officially in full swing, and here at Bridal Hot List we could not be more thrilled. Last summer was all about beachy brights, and this fall is all about sophisticated shades that will look good at all your upcoming bridal events. Let’s go ahead and grab the nail files as we dive right into fall’s trending nail polishes.

A Sunset-Worthy Bronze

If you were looking forward to fall foliage all summer, a burnt bronze is the shade for you. “Rising Star” by OPI ($9, beauty supply stores) is a gold based bronze that shimmers like autumn leaves in the wind. The formula is warm but still packs a beautiful punch. How cute would this shade be wrapped around a mimosa at a bridal brunch?

An Elegant Neutral Tone

If you like shades that are more sophisticated and work well with anything, opt for a muted earthy tone. Pair with similar neutral tones creates a polished, put together look at dinner, or with red or navy to give a little edge to a classic. We’ve been loving “Toasted Almond” by Covergirl Outlast ($5, drugstores) for its’ creamy mocha look and beautiful, long lasting formula.

Calming Cool Tones

Were you loving last summer’s turquoise tone Turquoise & Caicos from Essie? A deep teal-turquoise will be your new favorite shade. “Vested Interest” from Essie ($8, beauty supply stores) isn’t anyone’s standard go-to green- it’s so much more than that. This edgy teal is complementary to cool tones and can easily be dressed up or down for bridal events of any dress code.

Cute Creamsicle

If you’re looking for a shade that will look great when you’re dancing with your bridesmaids, but still be appropriate Monday morning at the office, opt for a muted peachy shade with a yellow undertone. We love “Sunset Sails” by China Glaze ($5, beauty supply stores) because it’s classy, it’s feminine, and it’s a perfect fall color. This shade would be appropriate for a ceremony or any slightly more formal or conservative event, but still looks warm and romantic.

Deep Navy

Deep complex colors are perfect this fall, but keep it cute by not doing black. Try a deep navy like “After School Boy Blazer” by Essie ($8, beauty supply stores) It’s an edgy shade for fall without being too grim or depressing. If you want something smoldering for a bachelorette party or edgy for an engagement party, this is your shade.

Five Trending Lip Colors for Fall

Hey there bridal beauties, did you notice the leaves are changing? Well that means it’s time to switch up your look, too. Stash your summer shades away and let’s dive into what lip colors are trending right now.

If you’ve been loving coral and all the gorgeous oranges that have been trending, try out a more Autumn orange like ‘Made to Order’ by MAC ($15, MAC counters). It has a creamy texture and is one of Autumn’s most beautiful, easy to wear oranges. Go lightly with a touch of hydrating lip balm over it for a subtle look for bachelorette brunch, or wear some bold lip liner to create a sexy defined look for bachelorette parties.

If you’re looking for something a little cozier for fall that’s still versatile year round, pick up ‘Vixen’ by Covergirl ($8, drugstores).  It’s a light plummy red that you can dress down with a muted face, or dress up with warm cheeks. Plus, this lipstick also has a light pink color on the other end of the product for mixing and creating custom shades.

If you were a fuschia girl in the summer, check out a more blue based plum-fuchsia, like ‘Mauve Pink’ by Rimmel ($4, drugstores). The shimmer helps create great shape that will be the envy of all your bridesmaids. This creamy texture will keep your lips from drying out from the ceremony to the reception.

For the classic brides and bridesmaid, MAC’s Chili ($15, MAC counters) may be the way to go. This orange based red pairs great with all of fall’s biggest trends, as well as all of your go-to basics. Mattes are a great standby for fall, and this one-two punch of orange and red is perfect this fall.

Have you been loving your pinks? Slip on “Who Wore it Redder?” by Maybelline’s Color Whisper ($6, drugstores). The hydrating formula keeps your lips looking good through the night plus keeps them feeling good long after you take it off. This pink is the perfect shade to balance punchy summer colors and deeper later in the year tones. Keep this on hand for day trips with the bridesmaids and slide it on with smokey eyes at night.

Five Trendy Products for Transitioning into Fall

Happy Labor Day! The summer is finally winding down, and that means putting the corals and punchy pinks aside in favor of more ethereal tones. It’s not cool enough yet for cranberry tones, but it is perfect for these cool trending products. Bridal Hot List will help you look fabulous at your next bridal shower or bachelorette party!

Fuschia! Try to go for tones that are more of a blue-based pink. I personally love fuchsia, but it’s perfect for moving from summer to fall for a few reasons. The pink tone is still summery and fun and playful, but not beachy anymore. It’s closer to a fuller red lip without being as dramatic or heavy. It still says romantic while still being sweet. I love these fuchsia tones from Inglot ($12, select department stores) because they go on creamy and have a great color pay off.

A cool toned highlighter is very complimentary to skin tones and can be just the thing you need while shedding your summer shade.  Dab a little over your foundation around the apples of your eyes to keep your face looking refreshed. The sun may not be outside as long, but that won’t stop a glamorous girl from glowing! After all, a girl’s gotta glow at a wedding.

Speaking of cheek products, use a light coral tone over your foundation to keep your skin looking refreshed. You may not be as tan, but you should want to keep your skin from looking dull. Coralista by Benefit ($28, beauty specialty stores) is a universally complimentary coral tone with a touch of sun-kissed shimmer.

With the drop in temperature, it’s smart to prepare your skin! Start using a primer that is lightweight but still a little moisturizing (temperature changes tend to dry out skin).  I like spray primers because they go on incredibly light and evenly across. This primer from ($14, Victoria’s Secret) manages to be both moisturizing but also keeps oil from eating through foundation. Plus, it doubles as a setting spray to keep your makeup in line.

A good champagne-toned creamy eyeshadow is appropriate any day of the year, regardless of season. I love this one (R.S.V.P by Benefit, $19 beauty specialty stores) because it still has some summer tones without being loud. You can also pack on eyeshadow on top and use it as a colorful primer. This color photographs well and makes eyes of all color sparkle. This would be perfect for either bachelorette parties or even the big day!

Top Seven Tips on Getting Wedding Ready

On this lovely Saturday morning, we  are thinking about all those brides who are getting ready for their big day. Some of them are in the process right now: getting their hair and make-up done, sharing some laughs with their gals, and maybe looking over her vows. It is a wonderful time in a bride’s life. That is for sure! Getting wedding ready is not just for the day of, there are some things a bride can do to get prepped. Here are seven beauty tips on getting wedding ready:

  1. If you notice that your nail polish is becoming thick in the bottle or sticky, just add some acetone, or nail polish remover, into the bottle. After only adding a tiny bit, seal up the top and shake thoroughly. By doing this, you will have enough nail polish for a few more applications.
  2. Air dry your hair often so it doesn’t suffer from heat damage. You hair can be seriously damaged by too much heat from your hair dryer, a curling iron or straightening iron. Put your hairdryer on the lowest setting to avoid damage to your hair. By doing this, your hair will stay soft for years to come.
  3. If you blow dry your hair you should use a “hot spray” before you start. You can find this in generic stores like Wal-Mart or Target. It’s used to prevent split ends and help your hair dry quicker. It also keeps your hair from drying out, and is often scented!
  4. Make your skin look more vibrant by using a moisturizer with a warm gold or pink undertone. This glowing tone can be achieved with a subtle application that emphasizes the cheeks and brow. Do not apply it anywhere else on your face. Using too much will give you a fake, shiny appearance.
  5. You have to consume eight glasses of water every day for your skin to look great. When you skin is dehydrated, the stress will make it look wrinkled, dry and dull. Reduce the chances of this happening by drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water per day. Use lemon or cranberry juice to flavor your water if you dislike plain water. Your skin is going to be grateful you drank lots of water.
  6. Be sure to exercise moderately every day. Daily exercise will help your body to stay looking young, fit, and healthy. It is definitely essential for personal beauty. You should be up and active for at least fifteen minutes a day. You can work physical activity into daily routines like walking or even vacuuming.
  7. To fix a damaged fingernail, get a teabag and cut a small piece from it. Empty all of the leaves from the bag. Then, cut a small patch from the teabag making sure your patch will cover the tear. Then you should put the piece of teabag on the torn nail and put some clear top coat on it.

Five Tips for Finding Your Wedding Makeup Artist

Wedding planning is a major task- it’s completely fine to feel overwhelmed at times. One major task for brides is finding your makeup artist. This may be daunting, but by following these tips and tricks you’ll be able to find the perfect artist for your wedding.

Look Through What You Like

If you have a favorite makeup brand, start there. Most makeup counters employ makeup artists, and they will be very familiar with your favorite brand. Even if you don’t find anyone who freelances there, chances are they will be able to direct you to someone who does.  Major makeup brands typically have pro teams who specialize in events and can also freelance.  Asking for cards is an easy way to start networking with freelancers.

Asking Around, Of Course!

Your bridal party can be an excellent resource for finding your makeup artist. There’s always a chance they have a sister or cousin you didn’t know about who is a cosmetics queen. You’ll still want to see a portfolio or do a test run, through. Do remember that just because they’re a friend doesn’t mean it has to work out. Don’t ever feel pressured to say yes to someone based on your relationship with them.

Ask the Experts

If you have a wedding coordinator, don’t be afraid to ask them! Since you will be working closely with your wedding coordinator, they already know the look and feel of your wedding. This will help them suggest an artist that they trust for you. Wedding professionals also tend to have an excellent network of professionals at their disposal, so they are sure to at least set you up with potential artists.

It’s perfectly fine to try out a few different makeup artists and do a few trial runs. After all, you want to look and feel your best on your wedding day. These next tips are to help you narrow down your choices and find the makeup artist of your dreams.

Ask For References

All makeup artists will have some variation of a portfolio to show potential clients.  Many makeup artists have either blogs or youtube channels that showcase their skills and work in the industry. This can be a handy way of seeing what a makeup artist is capable of and if they are indeed what you are looking for. Looking through blogs may also help you find links to other artists that they know, which can expand your search. On the flip side, you may be able to find artists by searching makeup blogs in your city.

Do a Full Day Test Run

Everyone’s skin and routine is different. If you’re caught between two or three artists, schedule a trial run of full face makeup early in the day. Take pictures immediately after they’re done, and then towards the end of the day. Take careful note of how your skin feels and how you feel in that much makeup. Keep your eyes out for any color fallout or discoloration. Be sure to test the colors and consistencies both indoors and outdoors. Over the course of a day, your skin may get oilier or redder. You want to make sure you find someone who really tailors your look to your skin so you look flawless all day.
